Why? Because his team won the Super Bowl. Sometimes it takes very little to make him happy. Today was one of those times. He got out of taking the speaker at his church today out to an early dinner because the man had a long ride home and he wanted to be back before dark. He and the others that had that task were happy because it means another several weeks (or maybe months...I don't keep track) before they come up in the rotation again. Good thing. I just found out today that he spent $150 on some kind of program for calibrating his monitor because the one he has no longer works since he downloaded Windows 10.
Yes, he finally downloaded it after saying that *I* shouldn't do it. *Sigh* Now that he's found out what works and what doesn't he wants me to wait until after the 15th of the month to download it. I told him I can do it before then after 2am but he said he has his reasons. I think it has something to do with the fact that he has to replace some card or other (his ethernet one, I believe). He says next time he has to rebuild one of the computers (when we have Win10) he is going to use an ASUS motherboard. I was surprised because we have been using them for years. I thought he was still doing that but he, like many others, just changed for no apparent reason. Like update some web sites for no reason just to make you think you are getting something new and improved.
I heard from an old friend (from the UK) yesterday. I hadn't heard from him for a couple weeks (which is not like him at all). BUT, since I knew he and his wife had bought a new house and were going to be remodeling it, I kind of thought that was the reason. I was right but...he said they had decided to not just remodel it but to expand it so they had to refigure the whole design of the house and that involved an architect and plans and builders. A real mess...LOL. Then his wife had to return to the US for business reasons (one of her homes sold). I had no idea that she owned TWO homes here. They had decided to keep one of them and actually were thinking of eventually making the trip here, together, to stay for a bit. That's in the future, of course.
This is the one that expected to die (according to his doctors) because he has such a bad heart and no hope of having the kind of surgery that is available here in the US that could correct the basic problem. And, unfortunately, more of his heart is dying. However, it seems that his marriage a year ago has made all the difference in the world to his expected life span. I am so happy because he is such a nice person, and so is his wife. They actually met online on a game site that we all played on for several years. He keeps saying that he met my bff and I a couple years before he met his (then future) wife. Carol and I were privy to their romance and their Skype conversations that lasted most every day, all day. She went to visit him in England, where he proposed and they married about six months after that.
It took almost another four months before she finally got permission to emigrate to the UK permanently. I was shocked to hear that it took her 28 hours to fly from California to where they live in England. That's from when she left to when she got there, including connections and stopover time. It was ridiculous but she had to fly from LA to Atlanta, then to NY and THEN to Manchester Airport. He said it took him 2.5 hours to get to the Manchester Airport (due to traffic and the awful road system) so it was another 2.5 hours added to her ordeal before she could get home and collapse into bed to recover.
I meant to ask him if they planned to take a ship to the US and fly from there but forgot at the time. The doctors don't believe he can take the stress of so long a time (even the actual flight times are not good) so I really wonder.....
I meant to call Carol to tell her all about the call per his instructions (which I always do or I email her) but, instead, she reads my blog so now she will know. I actually got a few calls from him when he decided to call to talk to her anyway but, on the number for her personal cell phone, some guy answered and asked him who the hell he was? When he told him he was her friend from the UK, this guy actually said, *Where the hell is the UK?* So, Staffie told him it was England and the guy told him to F*ck off! and hung up on him. He called me to make sure he had called the right number. I had my own suspicions about who the guy might have been but am not really sure. When he was sure he had the right home number, he said he would try that one and let me know what happened. He had asked me to tell Carol his experience calling the cell phone number if he didn't get hold of her himself. I don't know if he ever did connect with her or not. He tried to call me earlier today but I was in another room when he called and didn't hear my phone so I don't know what happened. I'm hoping he tries to call me again tomorrow. I plan on keeping my phone with me.
Well, it's time for me to hit the sack. It's late and I am tired. Love you all. Our cold snap is hitting us tomorrow and I have no idea what the Beast plans to do with the chickens. The barn was quite cold this morning (under the heat lamps wasn't all that much better with it so exposed). If he plans on herding them into the smaller area and closing it in, I'll have to give him a hand. *Sigh* Oh well. The trials and tribulations of being a chicken farmer's wife. ***Hugs***
