I'm Sorry But I Have A Miserable Cold

I was not in shape to actually pull myself out of bed and do my blog last night.  I didn't feel all that bad during the day but, as evening came on, it really hit me!  I had the leaky and stuffy nose, my eyes kept watering, I felt really lousy and had the chills, too.

I decided to take a nap around 7:30 or 8 and woke up around 5:30am.  I got up to pee and went back to bed and slept again until darn near 1pm.  I'm up now but my nose is still both leaky and stuffed up.  My ears are clogged.  In other words, I feel terrible.

I'm starting on some of the more effective (for me) OTC medications and we shall see how that goes.  I hope to feel a bit better later because I really do have some news that affects us all.  And to think it all started with my making the corn muffins to go with our bean soup!

Love you all.  Am going to toss down some meds and will bbl, I hope.

Sometimes Downloads Give You A Mess Of Trouble

I finally got the Beast to give me the pictures I asked for but he sent them to me in a package and the computer wanted to open them with a program I do NOT want to pay for.  It used to be a free one but not now.  So I had to play around and find a way to get it downloaded so that I could upload them and post them here on the page for you.

Let's review why I think these pics are so darn cute and funny.  First of all, it's because Chewlee loves the pictures the Beast blew up and framed and put over the fireplace.  She wants more pictures of her put up that are not pictures of *when she was a baby*.  The fact that the pictures she is referring to were taken just three years ago means nothing to her.  She's *grown up now!*  LOL

Also the poses you are going to see were all HER idea.  No one prompted her.  In fact, even WHERE she was when she made them was her idea.  The Beast would have selected better spots so the lighting was better and he wasn't totally dependent on his flash to even out the scene.  Okay...so now, here are the pictures.....
There were two pictures that I couldn't get to download primarily because of my internet connection.  I'll try again on those later tonight and perhaps get them posted tomorrow.  She is the one that selected to change out of her jeans and put the skirt on, also.  Note the boo-boo on her left knee.  She wouldn't let me put a bandage on it and said it's HER knee and it's okay because *Papa can fix it with his Photo Shop*...LOL.  Yes, he can if he chooses to blow up the whole picture of her.  But she will find that out later.

So there you are.  The pictures I promised I would show you.  My little drama queen.

Love you all and hope you have a wonderful Hump Day.  **Wink**

The Beast Makes Me Look Like A Liar

Well, I don't have the pictures YET.  The Beast got busy with his buddy, Dennis, today and helped him get a few things done to set up the motor home.  I have no clue why they set it up in the barn because that seems kind of claustrophobic to me.  The barn has no windows in it and they haven't been opening up the big door, either.  I know they had to find a dump station this morning because they don't have a hose long enough to extend from the bus, through the door and out to the septic tank.  Having to leave the door open for that would defeat the whole reason for putting it in the barn, I believe.  They don't have to worry about burglars this way.  That may be the main reason they put it in the barn and set it up as much as they can.  Oh well.  Takes all kinds.

I do know they have some valuable stuff in it.  We won't even discuss Dennis' guns or their 52" TV.  And Di is the type that owns very expensive china and crystal.  She did NOT sacrifice that for life in the RV.  Trust me on that part.  With as little storage as it affords, it was packed with all she needed in the most affluent style.  Even their *throw rugs* are things *I* couldn't afford because they are oriental and cost an arm and a leg.  That's their style.  It always made me wonder why they chose US as such good friends since we are definitely middle class.  Sure we own nice things but they are NOT even close in cost to what those two own.  Perhaps we take them back to their more comfortable roots.  I have no clue there.  But they are both nice people and Dennis is grateful that I used to go shopping with Di before all this surgery I had.  I kept her from buying things she really didn't NEED.  I would remind her that she had no place or room for some things that caught her eye.  Just because she could afford to buy things, she often did things like that and then things got stored in closets.  A different type of hoarding.

When they sold their house for life on the road, the *garage sale* they had was incredible.  Selecting what they would take with them in the RV was a horrible experience for Di.  And the rule became that if she bought anything, something had to be thrown out or given away.  Di said she gave things to charity (Goodwill, Salvation Army, Hospice resale, etc.).   She hasn't lost that urge to buy even now after five years on the road in the RV.

Now they are going to be building their home which will only be 2000 sq. ft. plus an enclosed porch/patio area, I'm sure she will STILL be buying things they don't really need.  Dennis claims she's gotten a bit better but she still managed to get an herb garden pot going in the RV, and it does very well.  That surprised me but the basil Dennis brought over today will be a nice addition to my spaghetti later this week.  The fresh basil makes my fridge smell wonderful!  LOL

She's been making fresh pesto and putting it up in pint jars for several weeks now.  She stores the jars under and behind their couch....LOL!  There's no more room in their cabinets.  Di is what you have to call a gourmet cook.  Many of the things she makes are very different and new to the Beast and I.  She's also selective about things like wine, of which she has a considerable knowledge.  I admire her ability to create some of the dishes she makes and bakes with the limited kitchen in the RV.  She does, however, have a very different stove.  It's one of those stoves that heats up the pans but the top never heats up.  The name of that type escapes me at the moment but she wanted that so it wouldn't heat up the inside of the RV.  But, what the hell, when you are a psychiatrist and make scads of money (and Dennis had a very good job, too), you can afford to buy the best.

She can be a bit of a snob at times.  Like her surprise that our dishwasher was a Bosch, which is considered the *Cadillac of dishwashers*.  But you have to forgive her for that.  Like all psychiatrists, she IS a bit nutty at times.  She and I get along very well but she could drive ME nutty if she was underfoot 24/7.  I give Dennis lots of credit for his love of her and ability to survive how she can make him nuts at times (without driving him completely nuts).  ROFLMAO!

Chewlee was happy when she got here after school today and discovered we had restocked our pickle supply.  She could hardly wait for it to be cracked open.  She had a good day today but was upset that we didn't take her to the school sponsored evening at a local steak house to raise funds for the city Christmas parade.  It upset her when I told her that all her school friends and the teachers would more than likely be gone by the time her mother got off work.  So today was absolutely the WORST DAY IN HER LIFE!  She cried for a bit but she got over it.

Anway, to finish the story, the Beast was exhausted by the time he got done helping out Dennis and then running up to the store for a few things HE wanted to try making this dessert he read about.  He even wants to try making French onion soup since he bought these special little casserole dishes (as advertised on TV but you can buy them at Walmart).  He even used it to make his coddled eggs he loves but he discovered that the milk still makes a bit of a mess since he doesn't use water to coddle them.  He gets these wild hairs up his ass from time to time but I just ride with the tide.  He gets over it after a while and finds something new to obsess over.  He did find the Panko bread crumbs and they really ARE great.  I can hardly wait to use them to make some fried chicken.

So, when I reminded the Beast that he promised to give me the pictures of Chewlee from Sunday, he said he had a really bad headache and would do it tomorrow.  He doesn't know I do this blog so I couldn't push him on that.  So, I must put you off yet another day.  Sorry.

Weather here remains nice during the day.  Still long sleeve weather, however.  Today was very, very windy with lots of gusts.  We are supposed to be getting much cooler weather starting tomorrow but you know the weathermen don't always get it right.  We just have to wait and see what happens.

Love you all and cross your fingers that I can get the Beast to download those pictures for me early in the day.  Keep smiling since it drives people nuts trying to figure out what you could possibly be thinking!  But an unexpected smile can spread across the country in a very short time.  **Wink**

Chewlee Has Become A Photo Hog...

Chewlee surprised me today after she was dropped off at the house.  She decided she needed to get dolled up so that the Beast could take pictures of her.  I don't have them yet to post but I'll have them tomorrow so you can see what I mean.  She combed her hair and put them in *pinky tails*...pig tails to the rest of the world.  I have no idea where she got that phrase for them but..hey, she knows what she means and I get it, too.

Then she had to put on a skirt, not her jeans she insisted.  She powdered herself with my scented powder so she smelled nice and THEN she asked the Beast to take pictures of her.  What brought this on?  It's because we just hung up, on the wall over the fireplace, two new BIG pictures of her.

She did a lot of posing and pretty much put on great smiles for a change since this was all HER idea.  When I saw the pictures, I had to laugh.  What a ham!  But we got some more good pictures of her and she already knows where she wants them to be hung.  We have a big, unadorned wall that is freshly painted that she has picked out for HER pictures to go.  She said she wants to take more but not until she gets some different clothes to wear (and she will probably change her clothes several times if she can).  It's amazing to watch her.  And funny as hell!  Well, you will be able to judge that for yourself once I get the Beast to give me the set.  Tomorrow for sure!

She has also decided that I have plenty of room to put pictures of her, too.  I have a wall I started to put family photos on (including a montage that I put together of some pictures from our reunions).  I'm waiting for more frames to put a couple more together.  Part of the reason I've been doing that is so Chewlee can see pictures of her aunts and uncles that she hasn't met yet.  I promised her that she will go up to Chicago with me next year so she can see them.  Well, as many as we can get together since our reunions have kind of fallen apart since our kids are older now and don't realize the value of meeting together with your relatives.  Especially us *older* folks that will just be a memory sometime in the (far) future.

This new twist with Chewlee really hit me as funny because it was so unexpected.  I had no idea she liked seeing her pictures up on the wall.  We had some pictures of her up there before but that was *when she was a baby* (her words).  These new ones up there are of her NOW, when she is grown up (again, her words).  This is going to be an adventure with her.

So, you will have fun seeing Chewlee striking her own poses tomorrow.  Aren't you thrilled?  I know I am a doting great-grandmother (that makes me feel old when I say that) but what can I say.  I admit it.  You'll just have to put up with me on this but the pictures may strike YOUR funny bone, too.

I'm not enjoying the cold but so far our days haven't been TOO bad.  Long sleeves work when you go outside.  Chewlee and I pulled the weeds out of our flower bed out front today.  I had to make sure she didn't pull out the perennials that were in it but she was shocked that I pulled out the annuals that had gone dormant (dead).  She was okay with it once I told her we would plant new ones in the spring.  She really was upset that she had to wait that long but I told her the time would fly by for her because she would be so busy with school and gymnastics.  She wants to take ballet now but I don't think it's in the works for her for this year.

The contractor is coming to repair the garage on Tuesday.  I don't know if he will manage to get it all done in one day.  I somehow doubt it.  Tomorrow the Beast is going to use the ham bone and some of the ham that the Princess brought us to make some of his bean soup.  I will even have part of that for my split pea soup, which tastes so great in the fall.

Oh, Baron chased off a huge raccoon that was climbing one of the trellis' that we have next to our deck.  The Beast saw where it got into the yard and says he is going to block it off.  I think they dug a hole in the ground under our big gate on the side.  How the Beast can keep them out, I have no idea.  If they dug one hole, they can dig another one.  I think having Baron chase them might be the better solution now that they've eaten all the grapes that were on our vines.  Figures, doesn't it?  Just as they ripened, POW!  Gone!  Those rascals don't miss a trick.  LOL!

It's late.  I was so busy playing bingo online that I didn't notice the time.  Shame on me for that but I do get carried away when I am winning.  As if the *coins* you earn are useful for anything.  NOT!  But I like winning as much as the next person.

Love you all and I wish you a wonderful week.  I wish you weather you can enjoy and lots of friends and family to share with you.  Be good and please be careful driving.  **Wink**

It's All Coming Together.....

The Beast and I picked out the new garage door this morning.  He was going to order it online for delivery when he got an idea and called Dennis' garage door guy.  It ended up that we got the same door (less a little bit of decorative hardware) for just $200 more than the online price for the door alone.  AND this is the installed price and already painted the Forest Green that we thought we would have to do this spring.  ^5, babe!  Not bad.

The contractor that is going to repair the broken door frame AND the aluminum siding will be here on Tuesday to do that.  The garage door, unfortunately, won't be ready for three weeks but even the online order would have taken that long so no big deal.  The contractor for the door is going to haul away the old door and other stuff that needs to be hauled away.  We were so glad because *we* wouldn't have been able to do that.  Our little trailer is just 8' and has a large grate back and the garage doors are 16' long.  We figure the contractor must know a place that buys the aluminum doors so he makes a few bucks from that.  Whatever it takes to get it hauled away, I'm all for it!

Dennis was a bit uneasy that the Beast took the door off today and is just going to leave it open.  But, like the Beast told him, this is not a neighborhood that has crime.  The only time things have gone missing is when there have been strangers doing work here and there.  Dennis has to have some work done on his house plans so it will be a few more weeks before anything goes on there.  So far, his quotes have been ridiculous.  It's like they saw him coming and figure he's *green* for the taking.  The Beast almost choked on the $171. a sq. ft. prices (and up!).  So, he's going to have his architect redraw the plans and take out the specs on the cabinets, floors, etc. and just wait and see what the new contractors allow for them to use to select those items in their quotes.  Otherwise, they will buy those items and let the contractors install what they have chosen.

They have a separate contractor that will put in the safe room.  Taking out the very specific requirements that they previously had along with the plans for the house (2000 sq. ft. plus a screened porch) should get them a more realistic price for building the house.  We shall see.

It is nice that they are back and ready to get down and dirty about getting the house built.  I'm just glad that the Beast has his buddy here to talk to.  Di said she's glad that Dennis has someone that HE can talk to....LOL!  Looks like we both had the same problem.

I need to get to the store tomorrow to buy a few things and plan on making something for lunch.  The Princess dropped off the ham bone along with some big pieces of ham so we have plenty for a variety of soups and some ham salad.  Maybe I'll do that...make ham salad for our lunch.  I also  have to look and see if I can find the special bread crumbs for this one quick dessert the Beast wants to try.  It's the Japanese Panko bread crumbs that are crunchier than what we are used to using.  I don't remember seeing them in our local store but I haven't actually LOOKED for them either.  The Beast says he saw split peas out at our grocery store so I want to get a few bags for us.  I have just one bag left of the dozen or so that I bought two years ago so I need more.

Love you all.  Hope you enjoyed your weekend so far and have a good Sunday planned.  Tell those you love that you do.  Life is short.  Shorter than you realize actually.  **Wink**

Tara Stops By And I Hear The Tale Told By The Beast...

Tara came by today.  She took a look at the damage to the garage and noticed the car was there and looked intact.  She figured out that we had the damage to the car fixed, however.  BUT....now I understand why my sister Cee thought I might have been hurt.  The way HE told the story to Tara, she thought I had gone through the garage door and hit the wall at the back of the garage.

I was ready to throttle him, as you can imagine.  He got this sheepish look on his face when she told me HIS tale of the damage.  We DID laugh about it.  Mainly because she had at least only told her mother, father and brother the tale.....as told by the Beast.  Sheesh!  Like I didn't feel bad enough.

Dennis and Di got back today.  He claims he didn't lose any weight but I swear, he lost his gut and looks about 20 lbs lighter.  Even Chewlee said he looked different but Dennis thinks it's because he shaved off his beard.  I asked Chewlee about that and she said she forgot he had one so it wasn't that.  She said he looked skinnier.  I agree with her but then, who knows?  He's been through a lot and told us some of the pain he went through and the way the doctor reacted to that part.  I told him that if they haven't gone through the same thing themselves, they just don't understand about pain.

But it's nice to have them back.  The Beast has his buddy close to him and Dennis is actually good to have around.  He'll be helpful when the Beast has to take down his cabinets and then put them back up again.

I found out that Dennis is building a special tornado shelter when his house is built.  It will be big enough for them and us, too.   Thank you, Lord.  It's to be a 10 x 14' underground shelter.  He's going to put benches around it to sit on so we won't have to sit on the floor.  He said he hasn't decided if he's going to put lights in it or just keep a large battery operated floodlight in it for an emergency.

We went out to dinner at the Italian restaurant that the Princess used to work at so Chewlee HAD to go with us so she could see the people there.  Even the owner came over to talk to us because Chewlee went to greet her.  After Chewlee had eaten, she was helping to clear off tables and then cleaning them up and straightening all the things on it for the next people.  She meant well but I'm sure some of the things would have to be rearranged by the girls.  LOL!

We dropped her off at home after dinner along with the rest of the child's order of pepperoni pizza.  I think it was meant for a much older child.  It was actually a small pizza that cut up into about 8 slices.  But I'm sure the Princess and Johnnycakes will finish it off.

Cool here but not that crispy cold like we had several days ago.  Dennis and Di were glad to hear it because they need to adjust after the heat in Texas they had.  But the day time has been nice with only the need for long sleeves or a light jacket in the evening.  That's due to change, however.  But I'm not even going to think about it until it happens.

Love you all.  Have a fantastic weekend regardless of your weather.  Defy it!  **Wink**

Our Own Little Lady Bug....

I was so glad that I remembered what Chewlee had told me so that when she got off the bus, I could say, *What do we have here?  A BIG ladybug??*  She got a big smile on her face and shook her head yes.  Her wings were cute and transparent and her little antennas bobbed back and forth.  She had a couple little dots along the sides of her face so I know she was happy with that.  She must feel like she is *made up* for her part.  She removed her wings when she got in the house and showed me her bag that had candy at the bottom from the school party.  There was a nice assortment and she tried sharing it with me.  She gave me a Starburst and then asked me a few minutes later if I wanted it or not.  I told her to go ahead and take it if she wanted.  She said, *But, Grandma!  I just want to be fair about sharing it.  If you want it, tell me.*

I really hadn't wanted it to begin with but I told her it was okay for her to take it and I would ask her for some candy later on if I wanted some.  That satisfied her and she went and sat in her little chair to watch her Peppa Pig cartoons.  She was pleasantly surprised when her *daddy* came to pick her up a little later.  She put her socks, boots and wings on, grabbed her backpack and her bag of goodies and went home with a smile.  She told me they weren't going out for Halloween tonight because it was going to rain and they moved it to another day.  What day that was to be, she didn't know.  And, wouldn't you know it?  I DIDN'T rain here but it was windy and cool.  Oh well!

I slept a lot today due to having a bad IBS attack.  I am sure that all two miles (or whatever it is) of my intestine are squeaky clean.  There could be NOTHING left in it after all I have been through the last couple days.  My tummy was so sore!  And other places, too.  But I did what I always do when I am sick.  I slept and let my body work it out.  I woke up this morning (at around 5am) and I feel really good!  I guess that bout of IBS is over now.  I wish I knew what brought it out in me.  Most of the normal things they warn you to avoid, I haven't touched in months.  So I have no real clue.  I may have to resort to writing down everything I eat each day and keep a diary so that we can figure it out when it hits me again.

Love you all.  I hope your Hump Day is a good one and you don't suffer with weather that's too bad.  It's so crazy all over the place.  Keep warm and dry.  Smile a lot.  It really confuses people....LOL!
