Strange Cravings...

I have no idea if my IBS and the dehydration I suffered or what it is, but I have developed a strange craving for salt for some reason.  Not just any salt....but coarse sea salt.  Perhaps it's more the minerals in it than the salt itself but I have the need to pick out big rock pieces and crunch them in my teeth.  I know, I know...weird.  It's not for lack of food, lord knows.  p

The Beast came home from his *movie* at church tonight with more food than we can eat in two days or more.  He brought us each steak and cheese sandwiches from our favorite Italian restaurant PLUS two small pizzas.  They have a *buy one, get one* deal on the pizzas but those alone would have done us for two days.  Neither one of us can manage a whole steak and cheese sandwich so I have no idea what was going on in his mind.  He had to have been absolutely famished when he got there.

Every time I think the craving is done with, it starts back up.  I doubled up on my vitamins to see if that helped and I cut down on my water intake, thinking that perhaps I am drinking too much.  But, alas...nothing seems to work.  I am hoping I get over this because I know too much salt intake is NOT a good thing.  I am keeping it down to one big grain of the salt about every half hour and hoping that works.  We shall see.  The longer I can crunch the grain, the better it seems.  Cross your fingers for me.  I know this is not a good thing.

I discovered a small sore under one breast today.  I think that is from the sweating I did when I was so sick.  I'm keeping it dry and powdered so that it heals up.  One thing that happened while I was sick was I lost a lot of the fat in my chest area (you know where I mean...) and now feel like a joke from the comics.  I won't go into details but I sure don't have the filling for some of my bras now....LOL!

Time to get back to bed for the night.  I'm getting kind of used to the only being up to go to the bathroom (and then do my blog if I have the energy).  Love you all.  Stay warm.  I hear we are going to be hit by an arctic blast on Monday.....brrr!  ***Hugs***

Slept Thru The Night....

I went to bed at a decent time and only woke up to go to the bathroom once or twice.  I ended up sleeping all night and only woke up briefly this morning when the Princess and Chewlee came by the house for a bit.  I was still too tired to wake up fully but did get a hug from her when she got here plus when they left.

When I got up for good, imagine my surprise to find out it was only 11am!  I was sure I had slept a lot longer than that...LOL.  The Beast bought me a new keyboard for my computer that came yesterday and I really am liking it a lot.  No batteries, no cord...it's solar powered but will also charge up under a lightbulb.  I get afternoon sun in my computer room window so I have the best of both worlds.  A lamp on my desk AND a window behind it.

The Beast was a real sweetheart today and washed my clothes from the last couple days for me.  I wasn't looking forward to that but now all I have to do is fold it all.  I was grateful since, trust me, those clothes really NEEDED washing after my IBS attack. "Nuff said.

The Beast had some sort of special church meeting this afternoon.  He ended up being late for it because he wasn't paying attention to the time.  There was going to be some kind of movie shown and I told him I was sure someone could *catch him up* on anything he missed.  He ran out of here when I pointed out to him that he was already 15 minutes late for the start.  He just HATES to be late.

I took the opportunity to run out and throw my garbage out since there were orange peels in it and those things seem to have those little tiny flies that hatch out of them.  I noticed a couple and decided to freeze them out.  I had to throw out the boxes from the keyboard anyway.  At least now the flies seem to be gone.  That's another thing I don't like about winter weather.  Those little bugs that show up because you have the heat on.  Yuk!

I need to pack up my pillbox for the week ahead now so I am going to post this now.  Love you all.  Keep warm.  ***Hugs***

Sorry, I've Been Too Sick To Blog

I've had positively the worst case of IBS that I have EVER had and the last three days have been miserable for me.  The Beast noticed I was sick the first day but ignored me after that.  I thought I would die from thirst.  I know damn well he wants me to die.  No one ignores someone that long without even being concerned about their having water to drink!

I finally got up and managed to get myself some water.  It was the first time I wasn't making a run for the toilet but the inside of my mouth was so dry, I had to have something.  I lapped some out of my hand to begin with and then made my way to the kitchen and got a big glass.  I still haven't eaten anything.  The Beast had offered me some bean soup but I know that is what set off this bout of IBS.  I should have known better than to have split pea soup and then some bean soup the next day.  Color me an idiot.

I am beginning to feel like this may be over.  I will know by tomorrow or later tonight even.  I've missed you all.  Take care of your health.  ***Hugs***

Dinner At Dennis And Diane's...

This morning we got a call from Dennis inviting us over for dinner.  I wasn't up yet so the Beast told him he would check to see how I felt when I woke up.  That's what greeted me when I woke up and went to get my morning coffee.  I didn't feel bad so I said it sounded good to me.

At 5pm, I was dressed and ready to go.  First mistake....we walked across the street.  Now I know that doesn't sound all that bad, right?  But you would have to see the path we have to take to get to the front door.  It's not *just* across the street.  But I made it there and got to sit down once we got into the kitchen and said our hellos.  It seems they had company.  Friends of theirs that came down from New York to visit for a couple days.  We were introduced and, once I sat down, I was given a glass of wine.  I had never heard of *white* merlot (it's kind of a light reddish color or a dark pink) but it was very tasty.  A mildly sweet wine.

I thought they had gotten all their furniture but it seems not.  They have the guest room furniture, the office furniture, the living room furniture, their mattress and box springs, Diane's dressing table and the chairs for the breakfast bar.  They kept the small table from the RV but the chairs for their dining table had been delivered so that was where we girls ate.  The guys ate at the breakfast bar.  The living room furniture included a really neat cabinet for their HUGE TV which they had also had in the RV.

After I had rested for a bit, I finally got to see the bathrooms which have the most unusual sinks in them.  They don't have what you would call normal sinks.  They look more like a fountain and are just gorgeous.  Dennis had to show me the safe room which looks almost like something out of one of the Doomsday Preppers handbook.  It has a half bath, the washer and dryer and a separate room that includes bunkbeds and storage shelves for holding lots and lots of food.  I told Dennis he should ask the Beast if he wants to bring over the MRE's that we have stored out in our garage.  They are meals for four people so it makes sense to have them stored somewhere safe....in case of a tornado taking our house.  I'm going to mention it to the Beast myself.  If a tornado hits our house, those would be lost and they were expensive.  I would feel better if they were safe.  We sure aren't going to think of grabbing any of them if the worst happens.

We found out that Dennis and Diane's friends (a really nice couple) are going to buy the lot behind their house and build a house of their own there.  I just had to laugh.  I told Diane that it seems like this area is going to be sold, little-by-little, to friends of the people who originally bought here.  But Diane thinks it would be a great idea since the guys could hang out and we girls could do things like go shopping and out for lunch.  I told Diane that my sister, Cee, was talking about moving to this area next year and she could always join us.  Di and I talked about some of OUR times where we went out shopping and I spent most of my time talking her out of buying things.  She said it was different now since she isn't working so there's not all that free income.  I sure hope so, I said.  LOL!

They still need clocks for the house since the only ones they have are on the microwave and the alarm clock in their bedroom.  They don't have anything hanging on their walls at all yet.  Diane said they couldn't keep any of the paintings they had in their house when they bought the RV and she missed them terribly when they sold them off.  But she promised Dennis that they would buy anything for the walls together so I sighed in relief.  That will help keep her from going off on a tangent.  I know how she can get.

Dinner was delicious.  Diane made chicken with some kind of a rub on it.  Sides included baked sliced sweet potatoes lightly seasoned with cayenne, brown sugar, cumin and something else that I forget.  Also some green bean casserole and baby carrots with onion.  It all was very tasty and seemed to go together well.  I teased Diane about expecting baked eel, sea urchins and other exotics since she IS a gourmet cook.  She laughed and said she was NEVER that strange a gourmet cook (true!).  That's when I told her that it was my sister, Bratfink, that had said it.  Diane got this strange look on her face and said, *Oh.  Do I know her?*  I just had to laugh at the look on her face and told her no.  But I had talked about Diane so much over the years, it was almost like my sister knew HER.

I noticed that Diane still has her convection oven which is how she prepared the chicken.  It's why the white meat stayed so juicy.  Her plans are to make pot pies tomorrow with the leftovers.  She DID send home some chicken for Baron (they both love him).  Diane made the comment that they own no pets but they have doggie treats here that they buy for him.  She told me they had just bought some doggie chicken jerky for him when they went shopping yesterday.    I told her she could make some pot pie to share with US as long as she was going to cook.

We finally made our way home around 8pm and I HAD to lay down.  I fell asleep and only woke up a little bit ago because I needed a bathroom break and I was thirsty after having that glass of wine.  My leg was paining me so I took a pain pill so I can go back to sleep after I get this posted.

Love you all.  It's only down into the 40's tonight and should be in the upper 60's tomorrow.  Be good.  Take care of yourselves.  ***Hugs***

My Poor Chewlee !

The Princess came over with Gunner and Chewlee today so that the Beast could show her how to use Photo Shop.  I knew something was wrong with Chewlee because she came into my computer room so quietly.  She then said, *I don't feel well*.  I felt her head and she didn't seem to be warm so I told her to get herself a pillow off the guest bed and lay down on the floor to watch TV.  She wanted something to drink (milk) so she went and got her special glass and filled it with milk then came in and laid down to watch cartoons.

I went into my bedroom to see Gunner and he was sound asleep.  He looked like a little angel but I wasn't going to chance waking him up so I didn't get to hold him.  He's been teething and fussy so I figured both he and the Princess needed his sleep....LOL.

When the Princess got ready to leave, poor Chewlee suddenly upchucked all over the living room floor.  She looked so humiliated and so sick.  Her mother looked at the mess and said, *What in the world did you eat?*  I told her that it was milk (and that's all it was).  She asked Chewlee what she had eaten today and Chewlee said, *Nothing*.  Nothing?  From my little eating machine?  She really DIDN'T feel good if she had not eaten anything.  Worse!  Her mother hadn't even noticed.  I know a fussy baby keeps you distracted and busy but...to not notice?

I felt Chewlee's head and neck and it was warm...too warm.  The Princess said she had taken Chewlee's temperature in the morning but it was normal.  So she is planning on taking her to the doctor tomorrow.  I can't think of anything harder on a mother than to have two sick kids (if you count teething as being sick).  Hopefully those teeth will finally erupt and the worst of it will be over for Gunner.  For now.

The Beast made some chocolate chip cookies today and decided to add nuts AND raisins to them.  DO NOT DO THIS!  They did not taste good to me.  I like the nuts but the raisins make them taste funky to me.  I told you he likes to experiment but this is the first time he's done it with cookies.  I don't think even HE liked them with raisins.  LOL!

Just FYI, once I finally got my feet warmed up yesterday, I put on the bootie type slippers I got from the Princess last Christmas (I happen to love them) and my feet have stayed warm ever since.  They were really painfully cold.  I now keep the heating pad next to my bed....just in case.

Poor Baron really missed the Beast yesterday.  He has been sticking to him like glue ever since he got home.  He even lay down next to the Beast's side of the bed even though HIS bedding is on MY side.  The Beast complained about it because it's worse than usual.  Baron wants to be in his lap if he sits in his recliner and follows him everywhere...even into the bathroom!  LOL!

It got all the way up to 51 today....I am being facetious when I say that like I was pleased.  It is still getting down into the upper 20's at night.  I'm hoping tonight actually WILL be the last night of that for a while.  You just can't trust the weatherman.  It's still just an educated guess.  They have lots of equipment and education but Mother Nature still can surprise you.  I am dying to go over to Dennis and Diane's to see their new furniture.  Even the Princess got to do that today.  She brought Gunner over so they could see him.  It was the first time they had gotten to see my newest great-grand.

Time to get this posted.  Love you all.  I hope you have a really great week.  Keep warm.  ***Hugs***

IT WAS SO COLD, I WAS ALMOST SICK.....

The Beast went to his special meeting this morning and, despite my threatening him, he turned off the heat in the living room when he left.  The house was very cold...so cold that I was shivering despite having warm pajamas, my robe, socks and slippers on.  We were down in the 20's during the night and our floors (with the wood) just radiate the cold up into the house.  We have good insulation everywhere but our floors.

So, when I discovered what he had done, I turned that heater on, the oven on and the floorboard heaters all on.  Then I went and laid down underneath a heavy comforter until the house warmed up enough for me to get dressed and run up to the store for my split peas and some ham.  It took about an hour and a half and I didn't feel well but I dressed and went to the store, regardless.  I wanted some split pea soup.  I knew our Walmart started carrying it and I just hoped they had some (they did).  I was in and out of the store in about 10 minutes flat and made the round trip in just a half hour.  I waited until afternoon to start the soup, however.  I had to lay down under the comforter again to warm back up.  It was only 34 degrees outside when I went to the store at 9am.

I really felt half sick from the cold and my feet were killing me.  It is the neuropathy, of course.  I finally ended up sitting with my feet on a heating pad to warm them up.  Even my ankles had tightened up from the cold.  I have no idea what to do to keep them warm....and it's not even winter yet!  I had my bootie type slippers on with some heavy socks.  I will probably sleep with the heating pad under my feet later when I go to bed.  The heavy comforter should make sure they stay warm.  I sure hope so anyway.

My split pea soup came out great.  Perfect.  Hit the spot....lol.  Even the Beast had a big bowl of it.  He used one of the chili cups I have because he was hungry and it smelled so good to him (his words).  What did he expect?   I'm a good cook.  My mother taught me.  *Grin*  I just wish I had felt good enough to make up the yeast rolls I have in the freezer.  I just didn't want to wait since I hadn't eaten any lunch.  I know...I know....I'm bad.  But when you are half sick from the cold, you just don't have an appetite.  At least, I don't.  I will make the rolls for our lunch tomorrow before the Beast goes to church.  Then I think I will let him make dinner.

We didn't get any trick-or-treaters around here yesterday.  But we are a kind of enclave here and out in the country, too.  Besides, the town has a big party and so do several other places including one hotel in the next town.  The parents are smarter to take the kids to those.  It's just so much safer, don't you think?

Dennis and Diane are in their house, finally.  All the furniture was delivered and put in place.  But here's a surprise!  After building the big barn to house the RV, they SOLD it!  I kid you not!  I almost fell over when I heard that.  The Beast says Dennis didn't want to pay the price for the license plate here ($1200.) since it's based on value and it was/is a very expensive RV.  The man that bought it traveled all the way from Texas to buy it and really tried to talk Dennis down in price even though he sold it for $10,000. under wholesale pricing.  But it's now sold and will probably be in Texas tomorrow.  Now what in the hell is Dennis going to do with that white elephant barn?  ROFLMAO!!!

Another freeze warning for tonight and it's already down to 35 degrees.  I had to turn the heat up in my computer room here because the arthritis in my left hand started to really hurt from some small breeze in here.  I'll track it down and stuff a towel in it, I swear.

Love you all.  Keep warm and sweet dreams.  Enjoy what is left of your weekend.  ***Hugs***

The Beast Takes His Breathing Test.....

The Beast took his breathing test on Thursday afternoon and really didn't want to talk about it at first.  It seems he did awful at it.  The scar tissue on his lungs is from all his years of smoking almost three packs of cigarettes a day.  His having quit over two years ago hasn't made any difference.  It seems he now will most likely be diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).  That is where getting rid of the air in your lungs becomes problematic.  Since that is the carbon dioxide that we breath OUT, you can see where that might lead to major problems.

I have no idea what the future problems will be but will have to wait and see when we have to go back to the pulmonary doctor's office in two weeks.  Why it takes two weeks for him to come up with a game plan, I have no idea.

It's cold outside.  We have freeze warnings going on for the next two days at least.  Since it's 34 outside, I will take that as a given.  Especially since the humidity is so darn high (87%).  We got the car packed up today for him so he can just get dressed in the morning, eat something for breakfast, fill up his travel cup and leave.  If it's foggy, I want him to be able to take it easy on the road and not go tearing off trying to make up time so he can get to Birmingham on time.  Especially since he will have a friend from his church with him in the car.

Love you all.  Am heading back to bed.  I am really tired still and have to get up in a couple hours to send off the Beast.  Have a great weekend but be careful while out doing your chores.  ***Hugs***
