I know I have mentioned our friends for many years that bought the land across the street from us and built a house there. However, I really haven't told you much about them, just little bits, here and there.
Dennis is one of the few people that I know of that has multiple degrees from college as well as certifications from multiple states. He and the Beast went to school together to get their certifications for the State of Florida for Air Conditioning Contractors. That was probably the last certification that Dennis added to his list.
Dennis was married prior to meeting Dianne. Dianne is/was a very celebrated psychiatrist. She was honored last by the governor of Georgia for her work there. I gather she worked with and was very successful treating extremely disturbed individuals. She even managed to get them off most of the medications they had been on prescribed by others. She is a unique personality and a bit strange at times. But we get along very well and always have. She met Dennis when he was still married to his first life and their attraction to each other was palpable. I know Dennis fought the attraction and even moved back to New York to be near family and other friends there but, alas, he did end up divorcing his wife and marrying Dianne.
One of Dennis' degrees is in chemical engineering. He had to have been a professional student for a while. His father-in-law was wealthy and supported the family (he and his first wife had two children) for years. He finally got that degree due to his father-in-law insisting he work for the family business. That business was Buffalo Steel company. Dennis had to oversee, as one of his duties, the contamination of the land around the plant. There HAD been a different plant there prior to the steel company and there was definitely contamination from it. He had to remove and/or treat the land to prevent it from contamination ground water.
After his divorce, he and Dianne moved to the Georgia area, bought a gorgeous A-frame on a river leading out to the ocean and settled down. Dennis ended up building one of the most incredible and unique boat docks on that river and it was built to standards you would NOT believe! When I say it was incredible, you have NO idea. It was not an easy task and he was right there, not just having people do the work but was hands on to make sure it was done correctly. That's our Dennis for you, though. It looked amazing at night when the concrete posts were lit up. The damn thing was about 50 feet out into the river. When they ended up selling the house years later, it was one of the selling features. An engineer ended up buying the house. He appreciated the effort it took to put that up in the fast moving (and rising) water. It went up and down with the tide, too.
Yes, they owned a boat and Dennis complained they didn't get to use it as much as they would have liked due to their jobs. Dianne was heavily involved with her patients as well as overflow from her partners at times. When she was honored by the governor of the state, it was her partners that urged her to accept the honor. Dianne has never liked to be the center of attention and was very reluctant. But she finally accepted it and enjoyed the special dinner that was part of the ceremony. She DOES like to dress up and enjoys a good meal.
Dianne is a great hostess and an incredible cook. Dennis has become one, too, but that's his personality. Whatever he does, he has to be as good as it is possible. When they sold the house in Georgia and retired, they actually went to the factor where their RV that they bought was being built to make sure they got the accessories they wanted in it and to see it being built.
They traveled all over the country and even into Canada. They met a lot of people and had some interesting times that I prefer not to get into at the moment. Their last stop was in the state of Texas. This is after traveling for over 10 years in that RV. They were in some border town and all you could hear was gunshots at all times during the day or night. I know that it scared the hell out of Dennis, especially when a group of psychiatrists there tried to get Dianne to work with them. She was considering it and I remember telling her.....*Are you out of your mind????* You may laugh but lots of people lost their lives just being in the way of the various types of smugglers there. She finally decided not to take the offer and they came here to settle down.
It was Dennis that was with the Beast when they originally found this place. The two of them searched all over for an ideal area, near a lake, if not on one. They looked in northern Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and here in Alabama. They were gone for almost three weeks. I got a report each night when they stopped traveling about the properties they saw. When they found this place (it was supposed to be for the Beast to stay in during the summer since he couldn't stand the heat and humidity of Florida during those times), I finally traveled up to check it out myself. It was perfect for what it was intended to be. I have often said that, if I knew we would end up retiring in it, I would have insisted on a bigger house. Even now, since the Beast has seen more of the area, he is sorry he didn't look further. This house was half the size of the house we had built in Florida. *Sigh* But that is water over the dam now.
Dennis is now a grandfather from his children from his first marriage. I realized the other day that we have known the two of them for over 30 years. Amazing! I have friends from high school that I usually see every year and that is more than 50 years that we have continued our friendship. But this is one friend that the Beast has known and kept for that long. It is the only friend he has kept for that long.
It was Dennis and Dianne that got him the appointment with the eye doctor (see previous blog) and they were driving. The man was so busy that it was more than three hours past his appointment time that he was finally seen. It turned out that the doctor had had an emergency last week and was seeing the patients he had to cancel today of all days. It amazed me that Dennis was able to keep the Beast calm enough to see the doctor. I know of times that he has stormed out of a doctor's office due to it just being over an hour past his appointment. He has very little patience.
Dennis, however, has a problem with his eyes that is serious so, hearing about the Beast's problem, he was the one that made the appointment for him. He was worried about the Beast's sight so he wanted to make sure that he saw the doctor. When I heard about the possible cancer located next to the inner eye, it worried me, too. But we had no way of knowing that was going on if he hadn't seen the doctor. What they will do about it has to wait until after he sees the retinal specialist about the other problem he has. It would be funny if the Beast suddenly couldn't drive and I had to do all that for him. He would hate it!
Well, I think you kind of get the idea about our friendship with Dennis and Dianne. I will get this posted. I was just dreaming about them and, when I had to get up for the bathroom, felt I had to write it down. I will admit that I don't know much about Dianne's family but I do know that she has always been used to having a lot of money. She spends it like she prints it. Dennis loves me because, when I shop with her, I manage to curb her excesses without offending her. I just ask the right questions about why she might want this or that and where she intends to put it. Sometimes she is just like the rest of us and sees something that she likes and wants it without thinking it through.
For ten years she couldn't buy anything due to living in the RV without getting rid of something she already had. Now that they have the new house and had to buy almost everything, I was amazed at her restraint. She did, however, change her kitchen chairs twice due to not liking what she had bought originally. I'm sure Goodwill loves her......LOL!
She has gone all art deco in her decor except for the kitchen area. Nothing that *fit in* did she find comfortable and she says she wants comfort now. We shall see how long that lasts. Right now she is busy planning the plants she wants around the house where there is room. She has an *eye* for that kind of thing so I know it will end up being attractive and practical since she is a great believer in plants that can survive droughts. She will do her homework on that.
Time to get this story posted. Love you all and I hope I didn't bore you very much. Be good. ***Hugs***

No Good News For The Beast.....
Today was the Beast's appointment with the new eye doctor. Originally it was for what he felt was a film that was developing over his eye. Since he had cataract surgery a couple years ago, that meant the lens that was placed over his iris had to be calcifying or some such thing. That scared him.
Turns out he does have a film (not calcium) that is forming on the lenses in both eyes. The doctor can remove the one on the left eye but the right eye has a couple other problems. First of all, he is suffering from macular degeneration or some such thing. The Beast has no clue really if that's what it is or not. He just remembers it's some kind of degenerative problem. Second, the doctor thinks he has a cancer just to the outside of the eye itself. The doctor won't touch the eye until the Beast sees a retina specialist and is told it's safe. I found out the Beast has been suffering from floaters in his eye that is in a kind of *sheet*. The eye doctor told him that cleaning up the lens in that eye won't solve that problem but I told the Beast that the retina doctor will be able to tell him more after he does a few tests. Been there.......
Since I may have to have eye surgery by the retinal specialist that I have been seeing, I'm well aware of what could be happening to him. Especially due to his high blood pressure. But only time will tell. The eye doctor's office is making an appointment for him and will call him once it's made. Stay tuned for further developments.
It's been a few days since I spoke with my gf, Carol, and I sure miss talking with her. I tried to find out if she was feeling okay but I guess she's been worried about her oldest son, the one that lives in Hawaii, because he's been very ill. From her email to me, I can't blame her for that. It's a wonder she has time to even think about me....LOL. I am just saying a few prayers for her son so that her life can return to some semblance of normal.
The temperatures are dropping now.....again. I had to kick up the heat in my computer room. High and low temps for the next few days won't vary by more than 8-9 degrees. Brrr! I made sure all my warm jammies were washed, folded and put away. There's nothing I hate worse than feeling cold.
Love you all. Be good, stay warm, dry and drive carefully. ***Hugs***

Let's Just Confuse The Issue.....
First of all, I am feeling MUCH better today. No problems with diarrhea but I am being cautious. I have eaten normally and still feel fine. No tummy aches, no bloating and no gurgling....LOL
Secondly, do NOT ask me why but today the Beast came into my computer room and told me to let everyone know I was going to continue to have my OLD number and to ignore the new one. For right now, the new one and old one still work but I am getting a new chip or some such thing from the new company that, once installed, will allow me to have my old number. What they said that makes the Beast sure it will not be cloned, I have no idea. But, if he has screwed that up, it's on his shoulders and not mine.
Now I have a few people to notify about all this and we shall see what happens. It would have helped if he had just done this up front.
I spent most of today resting, I will admit. But, after being up most of the night with the IBS attack, I needed it. I got up several times to hit the bathroom (successfully) and a couple times for ice water. The Beast went to (another) meeting at his church for something or other (not a regular meeting) so he was gone for two hours. Baron had to go out because that was one thing the Beast forgot to do. He usually lets Baron outside for a bit before he leaves the house for more than a short run to the store. I swear, that confused Baron when he went to the garage door and saw the Prius was gone....LOL He's a smart dog and he KNEW.
Every once in a while, I watch this program called Bizarre Foods. Mostly I watch Bizarre Foods America since that is located at various cities here in the States. But, on occasion, the little blurb about the type of foods, intrigues me. But, OMG...I am NOT a fan of his eating bugs raw, regardless of what he has to say and some of the foods are more than bizarre. Yuk! I think I will stick with the American versions, TYVM! Those are not so bad. I guess it's not the best program to be watching after a bout of IBS but who said I was *normal*....LOL
Looks like tomorrow may be our last decent day except for overcast. Then it will be getting colder once more. I should be grateful we haven't had any snow (or ice) yet (**knock on wood**). Well, guess it's time to get this posted.
Love you all. Stay warm, dry and drive carefully. ****Hugs****

Could It Be Lactose Intolerance???
Just a couple hours after eating my potato soup, I suffered an attack of diarrhea that was not funny. I suddenly wondered if lactose intolerance could be a trigger for it. They claim it runs in families and I know I have two sisters that have it. Thank goodness I had decided to use a depends since I was having a problem with dribbling a bit.
Now I think I need to make an appointment with my doctor regarding this. The Beast came into my computer room after I hit the bathroom the first time and had to change my Depends and asked me if I was feeling well. I told him I was not. I guess I left a kind of scent trail in there. I am afraid to stand up for fear I will start to fill the Depends and not be able to stop. That can be very messy.
It got up to almost 65 degrees today and the Beast took Baron for a ride to pick up some fresh bread from Publix's bakery. They make bread of all kinds all day long there so it's always fresh. At least it is for about two days.
Since I am not feeling well at all, I am going to post this now. My tummy is gurgling again and that is not a good sign for me. Love you all. Hope you are feeling better than I am. ***Hugs***

Leg Still Feels Weak.....
I spent more time today walking on the weak leg. I say *weak* because that's still how it feels if I am up on it for too long. But I persist. I have to get it back up to strength because I sure as hell don't want to have to use my cane all the time, let alone a crutch.
One of my friends asked if I had chopped the crutches up into firewood yet. She knows I was really sick of using them. I laughed and told her they were made of aluminum. Fat chance of getting any firewood out of THAT. The cushions for under the arms and your hands are made of rubber. That would stink even if I DID decide to throw it in a fire.....LOL
My package from my gf in California got here today. I managed to get it into my computer room before opening it and before the Beast saw it. He thinks she sent me just ONE container of Bailey's but I told him that it was just one because I was almost healed. I don't know if he really believed me but I don't care. It's sitting here on my desk, out in the open and I have had two small (and I mean SMALL) glasses of Bailey's. I want this to last me for a while. He is so strange about MY having anything to drink that it's best that he thinks it's just this small bottle. It's all because HE can no longer drink. Just a sip or two and he's dizzy ever since he had his strokes. So, of course, now ANYONE that drinks is an alcoholic. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! If you only knew him pre-strokes. What a hypocrite.
I did get some more folding of clothes done and got them put away. I also made my own dinner since the Beast had someplace else to be for his church. Nothing special....just a TV dinner but it tasted good to me regardless. I actually had a taste for some potato soup but I'll make that tomorrow for us for our lunch. The Beast likes my potato soup and it's not something he makes. He makes potato pancakes, instead. But they are delicious and I am a fan.
Another two days of fairly nice weather before the temps start dropping again. *Sigh* Nothing we can do about that, unfortunately. You know me...I am a hot weather freak. Love it, love it, love it. The Beast doesn't but he also doesn't like cold weather. I swear, only little kids love it. Oh, and people who love to ski and/or snowboard. My daughter, Buttmunch, used to love snowboarding. I have no idea if she would even try it again nowadays.
Love you all. Be good. Stay warm and dry. Drive carefully. ***Hugs***

Some Good News For A Change
Other than the fact that my fingers on my left hand are cramping and making this post tough to do, I have great news. I no longer need the crutches. Not even one of them! My leg feels a bit weak still but walking will help that.
I am getting a new phone and a new carrier. Those of you on my old phone will be getting a call or an email with the new number. I don't have the phone yet but they gave me my number. The phone will be active I think from what their letter says.
I am going to try out Consumer Cellular. Yes, the one AARP recommends. No contract and they sure are cheap enough for what they offer. I admit I went cheap and will not have internet access but that's really because of the cloning problem I have had twice now. I don't even have friends in Cuba or Haiti or any of those islands. Sheesh.
Not that I wouldn't like to have a friend in Jamaica. One I might visit one day. Now there's a place that looks really interesting.
I'm really looking forward to my trip to Florida with my son. It means I can see and visit with my sisters...Cee and Baby Brat. I can also see how Frankenstein is and what my poor sister is going through with him. It can be tough to take care of someone with his problems. I will also get to see a couple of the kids (well, they aren't kids any more) that hung around my house for years. It's been ages since I saw them. It will be more fun for my son, I know, but still.....LOL
The Beast made an interesting side dish for our dinner tonight. It was an experiment that turned out really tasty. It had interesting ingredients....pineapple chunks, vinegar, brown sugar, cinnamon, pineapple juice and some soy sauce. It was really tasty with the way he put it together. He surprised me because I didn't think he would experiment like that.
Time to post this baby. Love you all. Be good and be careful. ***Hugs***

A Strange Day Of Nausea.....
I have no explanation but today I spent the whole damn day being nauseous. I never barfed but that feeling is just awful. It came and went all day long. If I stood up for anything more than the walk to the bathroom, I got dizzy besides. I really have a feeling that I have been nursing a slight case of the flu that is a different strain than my flu shot was designed for but.....it isn't as bad as it could be because I DID get my flu shot. At least, that's what I think.
I am feeling much better at the moment. I HOPE this lasts and the worst is over. I spent a great deal of today sleeping it off.....the nausea, I mean. It couldn't be anything else since I didn't indulge in anything else. Just my usual cinnamon tea and lots of water to help me avoid being dehydrated. Dehydration is a problem diabetics deal with constantly. I spent most of last night in the bathroom about every hour. Not fun to go through when you are tired.
I think that contributed to my sleep during the day today. I really was exhausted. It may have also made the nausea worse than it might have been. I know I am truly feeling better because I am hungry....LOL
My telephone was cloned....AGAIN. So now I am changing carriers since Verizon's only *solution* is that I have to buy a new 4G phone (I have a 3G smart phone) because...they claimed....the hackers have not been able to clone the 4G...YET! The *yet* is MY inclusion. They lie. I know that Dennis had a 4G phone (from Verizon) and his was cloned. My phone had charges for places like Haiti, Cuba and some other place that I haven't even THOUGHT about let alone have anyone I would call. That was pretty obvious to Verizon when the Beast went in about our bill. So now I have to let everyone on my call list know my new phone number since I will only have my old phone for another 10 days or so. My new phone will be here within the next four or five days.
I can hardly believe that we are supposed to have temperatures in the 50's for the next few days. That seems almost spring-like weather to me now. LOL!
I finally told the Beast about making the trip down to Florida with Mustachio. His only questions were ...*WHERE in Florida? Who is he going to visit?* When I explained about his buddy (the one in the car accident that was in a coma for four months and is still in a wheelchair right now), that was the end of it. He actually took it better than I thought he might. But, since Mustachio will be driving, I think that was the main thing. *I* am not capable of driving, you see. At least, not any distance greater than to Atlanta at the very MOST. That is only a 2-2 1/2 hr drive depending on traffic.
Right now he might be able to present a case but I am able to walk much further now without any aid. If I were feeling so-so, I would just use my cane. Here in the house, I don't think I need it for now.
Got to get this posted. Love you all. Take care of yourself and dress according to your weather, please. Drive carefully and thank you for your prayers. ***Hugs***

Got to get this posted. Love you all. Take care of yourself and dress according to your weather, please. Drive carefully and thank you for your prayers. ***Hugs***
