I mentioned the other day about Baron's sore foot. Not the bottom of it but the top. It looks like he chewed it raw and there's no apparent reason for it. We've been trying to keep an antiseptic ointment on it as well as a bandage. Baron chewed off the first couple we put on him but the large gauze rolled stuff I had in my kit and regular tape wrapped tightly around the area seems to have defeated his efforts now. He tried licking it first, then chewing at it and ended up falling asleep with it intact.
Although the area seems to look better, it may just be from our keeping him from chewing at it. I told the Beast regardless of how it looks after this weekend, he needs to take the dog into the vet's and find out what is causing him to chew on the area. It just worries me a lot. He's too good a dog to let him suffer because he can't talk.
He really IS a good dog, too. He LOOKS scary but is a real pussycat in reality. There have been only a few instances where he has been around people that he reacted badly to. By that, I mean his growl was really menacing because there was something about the person that Baron did NOT like. He will bark when people (strangers) come to the door and the bark is different from when it's a friend. But he is willing to accept anyone we invite in or greet in a friendly fashion. He then thinks they have come to play with him. In some ways, he is still very puppy-like that way. As big and as old as he is! LOL! He's 7 years old which makes him almost middle age in doggie years. Dobies live an average of 12-14 years so he has a way to go yet.
The sad thing is that, with his attachment to the Beast, I can see him pining away if anything happens to the Beast. My son, Mustachio, says he will take Baron if anything happens to his dad but that's only because Baron seems to be more a man's dog than a woman's. He's good for me but he's not *attached* in the same way. I AM a pack leader but he LOVES the Beast.
He cracks me up with the way he shows when he's mad at the Beast. He will pull the Beast's pillow off the bed and shove it into a corner or push it under the bed. Sometimes he plops down in front of the door and won't let the Beast into the house...at first. If the Beast is late giving him his food, he stands in the kitchen, facing the Beast and does this kind of growl and then a short bark. Then he plops down on the floor with his face AWAY from the Beast to pretend he isn't really interested in seeing if his food is forthcoming. After the Beast tells him he should go eat, he will casually walk over to his dish like he's just going to see if he's interested. It's hysterical to watch.
He also seems to be able to read the Beast's mind. I kid you not. If the Beast is just thinking about taking him for a ride or taking the scooter out to run him around the circle, Baron will jump up from a sound sleep and suddenly be right there....staring at the Beast as if to say, *Well, let's go!* It's not that he comes in to my computer room to tell me these things because he comes in to tell me all kinds of things...mostly about stuff he hears on the news...so it's not that. It's almost scary how it happens and it's always when he plans on doing something with Baron. You should see how excited Baron gets if the Beast thinks about taking him down to the river or on a real ride to the dog park in Huntsville. It's amazing.
An animal can add all kinds of things in your life, including exasperation when they can't decide if they want in or out. Baron can want to go out but, if it's raining or snowing, he will back into the house and refuse to go out. And he won't go out until he's desperate to relieve himself! Talk about a wimp! And yet, I have seen him out in the snow, running through it and having a ball! Go figure.
Today we had a high of 36 degrees. Brrr! It's now 28 degrees outside and is supposed to go down to around 24 by morning. It is not going to be fun from here on out. Me? I am keeping my room heaters on and just concentrating on keeping warm.
The Beast made a pineapple upside down cake today that turned out really great. He's adding a little too much brown sugar, I think, but that's just me. It was still good. It will be even better in the morning so it may end up being breakfast...LOL! I made a scrambled egg sandwich for breakfast today. Added just a bit of finely chopped onion to it because it had been a while since I had one and that's what I had a taste for.
The Beast has also started buying us honey wheat bread because it's *healthier* and it seems to be much fresher than most of the regular white bread available lately. I really don't care. I don't eat a lot of bread unless I make a sandwich and I don't make many of those because we don't buy much lunchmeat. That will probably change next week because our Publix is going to be opening. They sent us a bunch of coupons for their grand opening, too. I know the Beast is looking forward to that. Hell, a lot of people around here are!
Time to get this posted. Love you all and I hope you are keeping warm and dry. It's the weekend but drive safely still. I think we are all in for some weird weather. ***Hugs***
