PREPARING FOR WINTER NOW....

I'm still in love with my new TV.  I can't believe how clear and bright it is.  I keep throwing in my DVD's just to see how different THEY look now, even tho' they aren't Blu-ray.  But I am digressing from my subject.

I told you a couple days ago that the Beast had taken out one of the window AC units.  He said one a day was just fine with him because they are heavy and it wipes him out physically to take one out and then carry it out to the cottage.  He COULD be using the dolly but he thinks that's silly of me to suggest it.  I don't think it's silly but, hey!, that's just my opinion.

But he is doing some serious getting ready for winter.  He closed the vents under the house and put the wood covers he made over them.  I heard the sound of the drill and knew immediately what he was doing.  So the vents are closed and covered now and two of the four units have been put away for the winter.  I knew he wasn't going to remove one a day.  He's 70 years old now and not able to physically do a lot of things he could do easily when he was young.  It bothers him that he can't do them and he complains about it all the time.  I keep telling him, *Beast, you are OLD now.  Accept it and just get on with coping the best you can.*  That always gets me an ugly look but it shuts him up until the next time he has to struggle to do something.

At least he had my help today with opening the doors he needed open so he didn't have to try to juggle the window units.  I told him that it's a good thing they aren't bigger (more BTU's) because then the compressors would be much heavier.  I don't think he appreciated me bringing that up.

I never told you that he gave this old woman from his church the window unit that we had out in the cottage.  She had no air conditioning and is very poor.  He and another man from the church also bought her a nice, used recliner from this thrift store in town.  It looked like brand new and they split the cost of it.  I think they only paid $50 for it but she was so grateful, she cried.  She had no furniture in her living room and, now, she has a recliner to sit comfortably while she watches TV.  She had been using one of her kitchen table chairs but had fallen off it because she would doze off and lose her seating.  At least now, if she falls asleep, she will be held comfortably and won't fall off.

The Beast installed the window unit in her living room window so that area would be cool.  It was one of the bigger of our units and she told him it even kept her bedroom comfortable at night.  There are times the Beast has a big heart.  He wasn't looking to get praise for what he did and neither was the other gentleman, whom I have met once when he stopped over with his wife.  Very nice people.

I'm glad the vents are closed already because we could still get a tornado or two come through.  I always worried about being over a crawl space with the vents open.  The wind could more easily get under the house and lift us off like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.  I could see us just spinning through the air and then crashing down in the next town over.  That's the stuff of nightmares, trust me!  We've had come close calls in past years.  So far this year, we've been lucky (knocking on wood).  I know I shouldn't say anything about not having tornadoes hitting us since that's usually the kiss of death and one will hit us or around us because I did bring it up.  Oh well.

The Beast said he's got to take the propane bottles (we have two large ones and one of them we use for the fireplace during the winter) down to get them refilled.  They are both empty.  I don't want to go without having the fireplace to use during the morning to take the chill out of the air and it's kind of nice at night.  It looks like a real fireplace and actually gives off a lot of heat because it's not vented to the outside.  We don't sleep with it on because, who knows?  If the fire went out and the propane gas filled the house, it would be incredibly dangerous to us all.  I am including Baron in that statement.

Well, time to get this posted for your perusal.  Love you all and I hope you have a fantastic Hump Day.  Tara is stopping by tomorrow to pick up the TV, the DVD player and her tax bill on her house.  We got it because, since we sold the house to her, the change in the deed hasn't made the rounds yet.   It will go to her house next year.  In the meantime, please drive carefully.  Remember, the life you save may be your own.  **Wink**

THE BEAST SURPRISES ME WITH HDTV!

I had asked the Beast for a new TV a while back but my wants usually just go the way of the wind with him.  I will admit that I mentioned (a time or two) that a new TV might just make up for all those anniversaries that I didn't get anything...not even flowers.  AND...I happened to mention that Walmart was having a nice sale on TV's the other day.  However, that seemed to fall on deaf ears.

But tonight, surprise! Surprise!  The Beast walked in with a brand new, 1080psi, Vizio HD TV!  For me!  I was stunned.  It is a 37 inch flat screen and I am still dumbfounded over how amazing the picture looks.  For the first couple hours after we got it set up and the DVD player attached, I couldn't take my eyes off it.  I was playing Avatar on the DVD player and it was just amazing.  You feel like you are right there.  It's almost like having a 3D TV.

Bratfink said to me that it was obvious I hadn't done a lot of watching the TV in the living room with the Beast because that TV is HD (also a 1080).  I laughed and said he was always watching football, basketball or one of his news/talk shows that I hate so why would I?  Not that I hate football.  I just don't like what's happened to many of the teams the past couple years.

I ended up with the Beast's blu-ray DVD player because the TV wouldn't even recognize that my old (new) DVD player was there.  If you read that blog, I replaced my old one when it died on me with a very inexpensive (okay, cheap) one from Amazon a couple months ago.  It worked fine on my old 27 inch TV.  There's nothing wrong with it except it's not HD.  It probably isn't a 1080 psi either but I really didn't care.  It worked and that was fine with me.

But now?  I will NEVER go back to a non-HD TV.  It's THAT addicting once you sit and watch it.
I even turned on the ending of the movie Avatar on FX that Bratfink is watching.  I love that movie and I love it even more now that I am seeing some of the amazing scenes in the movie.  I feel like I never saw it before.  Not like this.  Am I starting to sound a little nutty?  Sorry about that but I don't remember it looking this good in the theater where I first saw it.  Okay, enough about that.

Since I now have the Beast's Blu-ray DVD player on MY TV, he's going to get another one for the TV in the living room.  I own probably 150 DVD's and not one is Blu-ray.  The Beast told me that I am to buy/order ONLY Blu-ray's from now on.  I understand they are even more amazing on an HD TV.  I can't even imagine that.  Oh well!

I can't wait to see Chewlee's face when she sees this TV in here.  I called Tara and asked her if she would like the TV and DVD player (they are both still good) for one of the boys and she said yes.  But I think she has putting it in her bedroom in mind.  I don't know why.  It was something she said, I think but I didn't care as long as it wasn't going to just be thrown out (that's what the Beast had planned).  I just can't waste something like that when there's nothing wrong with it.  It's the Polack in me I guess.

How is your weather?  We're having such wonderful sleeping weather.  It makes me tired just having the temperature drop down into the low 50's.  I know several states are loaded with snow and all I can say is that I hope nothing serious happened to anyone or caused a real hardship.  At least the states are one's that normally get a lot of snow.  Just not this early.

It only got up to around 75 but that's good weather so I am not complaining.  I was a slug today and didn't bother getting dressed.  I had no plans to go out so I kept on my pj's and just folded some clothes and hung up others.  I know there's some more clothes that could be folded in the dryer but I said the hell with it once I got this TV.  **Laughing**  I'll take care of it tomorrow.  It's just the Beast's underwear.

I need to jump in the shower and get my hair washed.  Oh, I'll wash the rest of me, too, don't worry.  But I also need to get this posted.  Love you all and I wish you a wonderful week.  **Wink**

CHEWLEE HAS A BIT OF FUN

We finally got that rain that was predicted for us yesterday but it came late in the afternoon.  Chewlee was outside, playing with the little boy next door.  When the rain started, his parents whisked him into the house and expected Chewlee to go home but she had other ideas.  She went and got a bucket from across the street and was whirling around with it.  It has a caution banner attached to it so it was whirling around too.  I was in the house and not near any of the windows or doors so I didn't see the rain.  You can't hear it when the windows are all closed so it took me by surprise when I saw it pouring outside and no Chewlee.

When I stepped out onto the porch, I was greeted by the site of a drenched Chewlee, whirling the bucket around.  I yelled at her and, since she was already wet, told her to put the bucket back where she found it because it was there for a reason.  She just laughed and ran over to Dennis's driveway and returned it before she skipped back towards the house like it was no big deal.  She had a big grin on her face and said to me, *Grandma....didn't you play in the rain when you were a kid like me?*

That made me laugh because I often did it when I could but the rain was usually a bit warmer than this one was.  She came in and I wrapped her in a big towel that I had gotten while I, naturally, gave her the scolding about getting so wet, do you want to catch a cold, etc.  Ridiculous, really, since you don't catch a cold from the rain....LOL!  But it was cute to see her so happy about doing something so normal for a kid.

The Beast didn't go out to dinner with any of his friends from church.  I don't know if he even saw any of them, honestly.  Those special meetings can be huge.  I was kind of glad because I put off making dinner for me until I knew for sure.  I'm actually sitting here eating one of the smaller pork chops I fried up before I make the country gravy and biscuits.  I've been doing it slowly since he probably won't be home for another hour (due to the weather).

Speaking of that, has anyone else noticed that they seem to have put the fat back on pork chops?  I noticed this a couple weeks ago.  Since you can't really make good country gravy from pork chops without some real fat taste, I was happy to see it.  The Beast said he heard a report a while back about a protest from people over the fact that so many meats were being produced or trimmed back so much (in order to be politically correct or whatever the hell it was for).  I always figured I could do my own trimming if needs be.  But it's back and I'm grateful.

Well, I need to go make my gravy now so everything but the biscuits are ready when the Beast gets home.  I can nuke the chops to warm them and I'm making peas for a change since that's not something I make often all by themselves.  I add them to all kinds of other things but don't often serve them naked.   Well, not entirely naked.  I drain them and add some butter.  I know there are people who don't like them all by themselves but I do.  I just have to be careful how much of them I enjoy due to the sugar in them but, hey, I can still eat them.....just not the whole can.  LOL!

Love you all.  I'm off to prepare my specialty (the Beast can't make it to save his life!).  He tries but he's resorted to package mixes to *help*, or so HE says.  Be good.  Have a great week.  Wait!  Maybe those two things don't go together?  Oh well, just do what's best for your needs.  **Wink**

Another Quiet Day

It was a kind of strange day around here.  I woke up early but wasn't quite ready to stay up.  I poured some coffee but ended up leaving it at my desk.  The Beast finally decided to clear up the area where he kept his Bibles and the stuff he used for Bible study.  He had stuff scattered in my etagere and on the kitchen table.  He was nice enough to change the table cloth (he's the one that crapped it up) and expected me to praise him.  I just gave him a nice, short *thank you*.  He really didn't HAVE to do it, after all.

I went back and lay down again and fell asleep.  I woke up and Chewlee was here.  I have no idea how long she was here but it was darn near 1pm.  I pulled myself up and discovered that I did, indeed, have a slight case of IBS going on.  That explained the gas attacks and the tummy ache I had going last night.  Sometimes it  passes with no other problems but not today.  All I could say was, *Dammit!* and double up on my OTC meds for it.  I'm glad I had other clothes to wash because it allowed me to throw in the sleep pants and underwear that I had on and had to change.

Chewlee and I watched her NickJr. cartoons.  Some of them are cute; some are incredibly stupid.  I'm learning to enjoy Peppa Pig primarily because it's obvious that it's got a creator from the U.K.  Chewlee will ask me things like...*Why does Daddy Pig say to 'tuck in'?  Doesn't he mean to 'eat'?*  or *Why does Peppa call it the 'post' when she means 'the mail'?*  There are a lot of both small and large instances that call attention to the fact that it's not a cartoon 'Made in the USA'...LOL!

I think that might even be the appeal for Chewlee.  It's very different than most of the cartoons she watches, even in format.   But she really does love it and hates to have to miss a minute of it.  I feel like telling her *Go to the bathroom NOW!  I cannot DVR anything so you will lose all those minutes you have to spend in the bathroom if you don't go BEFORE Peppa starts.*  She's constantly running to the bathroom and yelling over her shoulder, *Tell me EVERYTHING they say!*  Yeah, like that's going to happen.  I just tell her, *Nothing happened while you were gone*.

She was outside playing with Sam for a while and she missed taking the *mooter scooter* ride with the Beast but she did see him and Baron.  I gather that Chewlee and Sam were playing with Sam's pup so Baron stopped dead and the two of them were running around together while the Beast just sat on the scooter and let them use up some energy.  But, when the Beast headed back towards the house and goosed the scooter, suddenly Baron put on a burst of speed and got to the garage only slightly ahead of the Beast.  Then all Baron wanted was to get in the house for some water.  The Beast let him in and we sat on the porch for a bit while deciding what to do about dinner.

I'm embarrassed to say that we did TV dinners (Hungry man) and I made chicken nuggets for Chewlee, which she ate with Ranch dressing to dip in.   She also had some pineapple chunks and drank the juice from it.  Good for her digestion since SHE complained about a tummy ache yesterday.  But she ate all her chicken nuggets and then went outside for about 20 minutes before she came in.

She's not going to church with the Beast in the morning.  There's some sort of special deal going at 3pm down in Birmingham so he'll go alone.  It lasts until 7pm and he will probably go out to dinner with some of his church friends at a place on the way back here.  That means he wouldn't be home until 9:30pm or so and Chewlee has school on Monday.  She will probably be here with me (her mother hasn't given me her schedule yet so I'm not sure) and,  even if her mother works late, she will at least have gotten her bath and be ready for bed.

The Beast, as my son Mustachio pointed out to me, will go into these little tirades and, I swear, it only happens when the house and everyone but him are happy and enjoying themselves.  He will start throwing things around and swearing (just ask Chewlee who already knows that he says certain words when HE is unhappy).  Know why he was throwing things around?  There were two custard cups (one was HIS), two sandwich plates and three forks in the sink instead of being in the dishwasher!  I kid you not.  Trivial shit.  It's a wonder the crap he pulls doesn't kill me.

Tomorrow the weatherman says rain for our state.  In some ways, I hope so just so the Beast has a miserable time.  But I hate overcast, rainy weather.  It actually looks like most of the East coast is going to have rain.  Yuk!

Love you all.  I pray you have a better week if you didn't have a good weekend.  **Wink**

The Beast Uses Bribes On Chewlee.....LOL

Now I've seen everything with the Beast and Chewlee.  He wanted to get some new pictures of Chewlee but she didn't really want to pose for him.  (Her mother was the same way at the same age!)  Anyway, in order to get her to pose for him, he promised her a pickle (or two) if she would do it.  And she did.

It was just too funny for words to see how excited she got.  She reminded me of a puppy that was going to get a treat if they sat down, quietly.  I kid you not, this kid is a pickle addict.  THAT also reminds me of her mother.  For a gift one time, sister Cee bought the Princess a gallon  jar of pickles and, even now, the Princess remembers that gift fondly.

So Chewlee ended up with about four pickles (I think four equals one normal size pickle) for posing for pictures.  The Beast says he'll give her all she wants to get her to pose for some decent pictures.  He got one that has a very curious effect.  The more you look at it, the more you like the effect.  It's a kind of little girl sophistication that comes through.  Very cute.  I'm going to see if I can get the Beast to send it to me so I can post it and you let me know what YOU think.

It was another nice day today that I will have to keep in my memory for when it gets cold here.  We don't get a lot of snow during the winter (thankfully) but it gets cold and damp so it goes right down to the bone when it happens.  Brrr!  I'm not looking forward to that at all.

I did get out to pick some more of the green peppers, the jalapenos and I grabbed up a couple of the green tomatoes that are just perfect to fry up.  I've learned to really like fried green tomatoes.  Very tasty if done right.  The Beast's Aunt M taught me to like them and then how to make them.

Word on Dennis, the Beast's buddy that had his kidney removed due to it failing:  He's very weak but recovering.  Said the surgery was worse than he would have believed but he's anxious to *get the hell out of here* as fast as possible.  Like all men (it seems), he hates being in a hospital.  The Beast has kept him laughing (which he says he just hates!) by sending him some funny emails.  I know how the Beast can be when he's in the right mood.  He has a weird sense of humor.  But at least Dennis seems to be on the mend.  I don't know why but they were sending him *down* for some more tests but I'm sure we will hear what for and what the results are when he gets the word.  The Beast DID take some pictures of the completed barn with the siding and soffits installed so that Dennis could see how it looks now.

He has also sent him pictures of the completed driveway once they had that done AND the mountains of stone that are now dotting his property.  The larger one is near the barn.  The smaller one that Chewlee loves to climb on is nearer the road.  Both of them are on the same side of the driveway.  WE can't deal with that contractor but Dennis can and has his phone number so that I am sure he will handle that once he feels up to it.

Well, time to get this posted so I will just say I love you and I wish you a wonderful weekend.  Say a little prayer for the poor people in Colorado dealing with an early blizzard.  I've seen photos of the mess.  Another BRRRR! for them.  I just hope it doesn't cause more than driving problems and no one is hurt physically because of it.  At least they all deal with bad snowstorms there.  If it hit HERE, we would be in deep shit!  Totally unprepared.  **Wink**  Be good!

Sometimes, My Garden Is Amazing!

I made the last of our Italian beef that the Beast ordered from Taste of Chicago.  It is SOOOO good!  But we used up all of the green peppers for the order when we made the first batch.  So, since the Beast told me that I still had green peppers growing (the plants looked half dead not all that long ago), I went out to see if I might have some useable ones.  Holy shit!  I not only had some I could use, I have some HUGE ones that are just wonderful on the plants.

I also discovered that I had a lot of jalapenos and I also have some nice tomatoes that are still growing.  I gathered up about a dozen green peppers (and only used up three for our Italian beefs) and there are probably at least a dozen more out there that can be picked plus a few that will be able to be picked within a week or less.  The tomatoes are still green but a fairly nice size.  I didn't even go look at the plum tomatoes but I'll do that tomorrow.  I really have to take a good look at ALL the plants in the garden.  I've neglected it terribly thinking it was dying off but that may have been just what it needed....LOL.

I took a trip to Walmart today to pick up some of that ZzzQuil for sleeping.  I'm not sleeping well and definitely not sleeping through the night.  I'm willing to try anything so am going to give it a try tonight.  The Beast can use Nyquil for that but it has never affected me that way.  But they make great claims for this stuff so I will give it a try.  I'll let you know how it works for me....IF it works for me.

On the way home, I decided to run by the Princess's house to see the work on the *new room*.  It's coming along nicely with the help of Johnnycake's cousin.  The cousin has a lot of experience with building and has done a wonderful job on his own house, I'm told.  I think he's a really great guy to be helping the kids out the way he has.  I saw the work they had done and it really looks good.  It's nowhere near done but a good start.  I also returned the Princess's casserole dish in the hopes that she might actually return some of my things she has.  Time will tell....LOL.

Chewlee didn't get a smiley face again.  She was out of her seat twice today.  It's actually a minor offense but in for a penny, in for a pound as far as the teacher is concerned, I'm sure.  Chewlee said she was out of her seat because of some problem with her shoes (she had her sneakers on) but both the Princess and I told her she had to raise her hand and tell her teacher when she needs to get up for ANY reason.  I also told Chewlee that, as of next week, if she doesn't get a smiley face, no pickles.  No arguments.  She said she understood and there was no crying.  I told her if that didn't get better, then there would be no Peppa Pig if she didn't get a smiley face.  THAT upset her because she thought it started on Monday but I told her only one punishment at a time.

The Beast went to his church Bible study tonight and I had the Italian beef and other stuff ready for him when he got home.  He was grateful because, even though he had a sandwich before he left, he was starving when he got home.  You'd think he exercised for a couple hours with the amount of beef he piled on his Italian bread.  He really WAS starving!  He even had a big bowl of ice cream afterward.  At least he should sleep through the night.  He won't be waking up because he's hungry, that's for sure.  Trust me, he's done that many a time during the 49 years we've been married.

It was 82 here today but didn't feel like it.  It actually was very comfortable.  The Beast is removing the window AC units, little-by-little.  I mean that.  He's gotten ONE removed.  Only three more to go...LOL.  The spirit is willing but the body is proving weak and easily tires.  I figure if he gets one every two or three days, that works.  There's no reason to rush, is there?

Love you all.  Hope your week went well and you have a great weekend.  Tomorrow is Friday...yay!...and, for most, the end of the work week.  I wish you all good weather and lots of good times.  At least some peace and a lot of good rest.  I'll let you know how it goes for me.  *Wink*

I Really Upset Chewlee...

Chewlee got here today and I found out she didn't have a smiley face....again.  That's three days out of four and it ticked me off.  I wouldn't let her have  any pickles and she cried like I broke her heart.  I told her she shouldn't get ANY treats if she can't behave in school.  That's more important than anything.  And one of the things she did today was YELL in the lunchroom.  I've heard her yell.  Not good!

She had also upset me when she first got here because the Beast wanted to take a picture or two of her just standing by her bike.  She was downright surly and uncooperative so I told her to put her bike away and get in the house.  She was so surly that I almost was ready to not allow her to watch Peppa Pig.  I should have told her THAT was also going to be a punishment if she didn't get a smiley face.  But I have to warn her beforehand.  I can't just pull that on her without warning.

I did tell her that I had planned on taking her for a pushup if she had a smiley face but she wasn't getting one because she didn't have one.  That made her cry harder and I just walked out of my computer room and shut the door behind me.  I stayed out of the room long enough that Chewlee came looking for me.  When I asked her why she was looking for me because I wasn't getting her any pickles, she started crying all over again.  But, when the Beast came out of our bedroom and sat in his recliner, she didn't want him to see she was crying.  I looked at her and told her to get a paper towel and wipe her eyes if she didn't want him to see.  She did and then went into my room with her head half turned away from him.

I had been shelling hard-boiled eggs and making up egg salad while out of my computer room.  I made myself a sandwich and went into my computer room where Chewlee declared, *OH!  I want a sandwich!*  I told her I had egg salad and she told me she wanted HER kind of sandwich.  When I said to her that she was going to go home and eat with her mother, she ran out and asked her mother if she could have a sandwich when they went home and her mother told her she could AFTER she cleaned up her bedroom.  Chewlee wasn't happy about that part AT ALL!  LOL!  What kid is?

I really did feel bad for Chewlee because she told me that she really WAS trying to be good but then she would forget and that's what would happen to her!  In a lot of ways, I really believe her because I've seen her forget things from one minute to the next.  And I mean things she had seriously JUST agreed to do or not do.

The Beast still hasn't found a dentist.  Forget 1-800-dentist.  Unless you live in a big town like Atlanta, Chicago, New York or one of those, I guess they just can't perform.  We never heard back from them.  Our area of Alabama must not be a high priority to them.  But he said he's going to go through the yellow pages and see if he can find out he might try out.  I told him that he COULD try one in Huntsville but he didn't say a word.  So we shall see.

Love you all.  Am tired tonight so I am going to bed early.  I can use the extra rest.  Hope you had a good Hump Day.  Only two days to the weekend!  *wink*
