We finally got that rain that was predicted for us yesterday but it came late in the afternoon. Chewlee was outside, playing with the little boy next door. When the rain started, his parents whisked him into the house and expected Chewlee to go home but she had other ideas. She went and got a bucket from across the street and was whirling around with it. It has a caution banner attached to it so it was whirling around too. I was in the house and not near any of the windows or doors so I didn't see the rain. You can't hear it when the windows are all closed so it took me by surprise when I saw it pouring outside and no Chewlee.
When I stepped out onto the porch, I was greeted by the site of a drenched Chewlee, whirling the bucket around. I yelled at her and, since she was already wet, told her to put the bucket back where she found it because it was there for a reason. She just laughed and ran over to Dennis's driveway and returned it before she skipped back towards the house like it was no big deal. She had a big grin on her face and said to me, *Grandma....didn't you play in the rain when you were a kid like me?*
That made me laugh because I often did it when I could but the rain was usually a bit warmer than this one was. She came in and I wrapped her in a big towel that I had gotten while I, naturally, gave her the scolding about getting so wet, do you want to catch a cold, etc. Ridiculous, really, since you don't catch a cold from the rain....LOL! But it was cute to see her so happy about doing something so normal for a kid.
The Beast didn't go out to dinner with any of his friends from church. I don't know if he even saw any of them, honestly. Those special meetings can be huge. I was kind of glad because I put off making dinner for me until I knew for sure. I'm actually sitting here eating one of the smaller pork chops I fried up before I make the country gravy and biscuits. I've been doing it slowly since he probably won't be home for another hour (due to the weather).
Speaking of that, has anyone else noticed that they seem to have put the fat back on pork chops? I noticed this a couple weeks ago. Since you can't really make good country gravy from pork chops without some real fat taste, I was happy to see it. The Beast said he heard a report a while back about a protest from people over the fact that so many meats were being produced or trimmed back so much (in order to be politically correct or whatever the hell it was for). I always figured I could do my own trimming if needs be. But it's back and I'm grateful.
Well, I need to go make my gravy now so everything but the biscuits are ready when the Beast gets home. I can nuke the chops to warm them and I'm making peas for a change since that's not something I make often all by themselves. I add them to all kinds of other things but don't often serve them naked. Well, not entirely naked. I drain them and add some butter. I know there are people who don't like them all by themselves but I do. I just have to be careful how much of them I enjoy due to the sugar in them but, hey, I can still eat them.....just not the whole can. LOL!
Love you all. I'm off to prepare my specialty (the Beast can't make it to save his life!). He tries but he's resorted to package mixes to *help*, or so HE says. Be good. Have a great week. Wait! Maybe those two things don't go together? Oh well, just do what's best for your needs. **Wink**
