It really has surprised me that Lady has finally learned to walk on a leash. The first couple times we tried it, she became a whirling dervish gymnast. She jumped and twisted and rolled like she was being hurt or strangled. It was amazing to see but frustrating. I thought we would have to buy her a harness and try training her with that. But the Beast bought a training collar and, when he put it on her, she was very calm. It was almost shocking at how good she was. Most dogs that have been hurt when they have had a leash and collar on them will still do all the gyrating that she had done even with a training collar on.
She walked nicely and sat when told. She stayed when told and then came when told to come. It was cute and we gave her lots of praise and petting. I also gave her a few treats. She deserved it. For the past three days neither dog has eaten much and it really worries us. We even tried giving them the foods they like best......chicken, broccoli and rice. They did like just the plain brown rice but just picked at the chicken and broccoli. They both usually LOVE the chicken and will gobble it up almost like a vacuum cleaner. I don't know if it's the heat or what but they can't continue like this. I told the Beast that he will end up taking them both to the vets if it goes on for another two or three days. He agreed because even HE is worried now. He usually hates to admit that there's anything out of the ordinary going on with the dogs.
I had a nice day and we had a great dinner. We fixed the last of the steaks we got months ago from my girlfriend, Carol. The Beast fixed them perfectly. I made us some fried potatoes and green beans. I had planned on making us some biscuits, too, but it was too hot to turn on the oven and I didn't want the Beast turning on the AC earlier than he normally does. It got up to 89 today and I loved it. I sat outside a lot and watched the birds feeding from the bird feeders. I was also glad to see a few new hummingbirds inspect and then feed from the feeders I have hanging up. They are so darn cute! The Beast spent the majority of the day in the house after he got home from church. When it started to cool down, he joined me and we sat outside until it was starting to get dark. The dogs were outside with me for quite a while once there was enough shade for them to lay down in. Lady even fell asleep in the grass but when she heard my chair move, she would jump up and watch to see what I was doing and where I was going. When I reached for the door, she ran up the stairs to go inside with me.
Lady also spent a lot of today in my computer room, asleep on the floor next to my chair. She was only coming up to the edge of the door jamb until a few days ago. But this is the first time she came in on her own without being bribed by a treat. Then I would have to quickly shut the door to keep her in here. Although once the door was shut, she was not the least bit anxious and was as sweet as ever. Strange.
It's late and I am tired. The Beast and I cleaned up the kitchen and loaded the dishwasher after we finished dinner. I haven't felt like I needed a snack since then either....LOL. Do you think it might have been because dinner was so good?? Love you all. Have a great week. ***Hugs***

Inspecting The Plants....
I had to have the Beast fill up the bird feeders today. The birds were complaining while he was gone this morning. He was doing something at his church and was gone for a couple hours. I got tired of their screeching. He laughed when I told him but he went out and filled the feeders. They've really been hitting them lately and a lot of birds have joined in the feast that weren't around before. We're even getting more hummingbirds at our feeders but they are so small, the nectar will last much longer than the Beast's bird seed does.
One of the Beast's tomato plants (the one that I have been eyeing for fried green tomatoes when they get to the right stage) has gone crazy. It's just filled with tomatoes of various sizes and has a lot of little blooms on it that will end up as tomatoes. The other tomato plants have a few small tomatoes started but don't show the vigor of the one. The pepper plant has a few nice green peppers on it but it will be a while before they are big enough to pick. The strawberries are full of little strawberries and will only be a few days before they are big enough to pick. The blackberries are just starting to flower so it will be a while before those are even close to producing. They don't usually have good berries until it's much hotter out.
A couple of the peach trees show signs of producing some fruit this year so perhaps the worst of the fungus is now gone. We shall have to wait and see. The Beast hasn't put out his Japanese beetle traps yet. I am always amazed at how full the bags are when they are taken down each fall. It's amazing. What we need though is a trap that works BEFORE they lay their eggs in the peaches. *Sigh* The pears aren't ready to start flowering but they look healthy and vigorous. I'm hoping we get a good harvest from them this year instead of just a dozen or so.
It was just gorgeous out today. We only had a high of 82 so the Beast didn't put on the AC unit until about an hour before he was ready to go to bed. Since he has church in the morning and gets up early so he can *doll up*, he likes to be comfortable at night. Lady has taken to sleeping under our bed (it's her favorite place to go to sleep) so I have to brush her off in the mornings. Even though the Beast steam cleans under there, he doesn't do it every day. He only does it once a week or so and Lady seems to attract dust. I loved the heat and felt just wonderful. I was in and out of the house and up and about. I made some tater tots to go with our dinner (just some sausages) and some broccoli). I didn't want them to get freezer burn and it was starting to look like that was what was going to happen within the next few days.
I also made some raspberry jello and added the raspberries that I bought at Aldi's the other day. The jello tastes wonderful. I told the Beast that I would have added some cottage cheese to it but we are totally out of that. I'm amazed. It tells me that the Beast was the last one to eat it because I always make a note of it if *I* finish it.
I finally got a good copy of the flowers that Carol sent me and it downloaded like it should have. I said I would show you how pretty it is. I also know that Carol is always worried about using a florist she isn't familiar with (although she has used this one a couple times now) so she will be interested to see the arrangement, too. The Beast begged off from dinner again with Dennis and Di but used me as his excuse. He said I was taking medicine for constipation, of all things!, and didn't want to be far from the bathroom. At least it was inventive and actually was probably believable to Di. She IS a doctor after all even if she IS a psychiatrist. She had to learn all the things that all doctors do and she just went on and specialized in her field instead of regular practice. But, with having my colon surgery, you just never know how your body is going to be affected...LOL! The truth was he wasn't feeling good and I suspect it was his blood pressure. He had that red faced look to him and I found out he hadn't taken his bp medication....again! I'm going to have to remind him every day. He keeps forgetting to take it and I told him if he doesn't take it regularly, it doesn't do him any good. He claims he knew that but I am still going to remind him every day after I take MY meds in the morning.
Another nice warm day tomorrow and it's supposed to be sunny again. I feel so bad for the people in the Great Plains area with all the tornadoes popping up for them. I haven't watched the weather channel this evening so I have no idea of the damage they've done but I pray it hasn't been bad. The forecast for tornadoes in the next few days is kind of scary, too. None of it is expected in our area but that doesn't mean a thing to the people who WILL be affected. Cross your fingers that it hits only in open areas. So someone may lose an early crop but that's better than any other alternative.

Baby It's Hot Outside...And I Am Loving It !
It got all the way up to 89 today and I was so excited that I almost couldn't bring myself into the house again even when I started to sweat. LOL! The Beast and both the dogs were suffering, however, They looked like they were going to collapse after the Beast took them for their run around the circle. There was no playing in the house and, when we had delivery people show up at the door, neither dog got up but just barked from where they were laying....lol. If you knew Baron at all, you would know how very unusual that is. And Lady is usually a bit on the hyperactive side but not today. I guess you would say the heat got to them.
I got a huge surprise when a dozen roses were delivered for me. I was totally not expecting anything so I searched for a card and, to my complete surprise, it was from my bff, Carol. I knew she was sending me my Kauai coffee and had apologized that it wouldn't get here until AFTER Mother's Day so the flowers were a bit of a shock. I was just floored but they are really lovely. I had the Beast take a picture of them so I could share them with you all and with her, too. But for some reason, my computer is saying that it is unable to read the download. I will have to give it another try tomorrow but have the Beast put it on a thumb drive rather than his emailing it to me. Of course, it could be because he sent it to Gmail instead of my Yahoo email like he would normally do. I seem to recall having problems with some downloads before on Gmail.
If so, tomorrow will still be Mother's Day and I can still share the picture with you all. The flowers are really lovely and have a gentle scent to them. That was a surprise to me. I thought only American Beauties and a few others had any scent to them.
Cee and I decided today that we will be traveling to the campground for Chewlee's birthday party together. We discussed what we should give her for her birthday....gift or cash. We think we have decided but I am not going to put it on here since her mother reads my blog and she might just let it slip or, worse yet, Chewlee might read it herself since she is nosy and might be looking over her mother's shoulder.
I woke up just before 9am today and have been up all day without a nap so you can imagine how tired I am right now. I was busy, too. I folded the Beast's clothes and matched his socks. I cleaned up the kitchen this morning and filled the dishwasher with another load. We had a couple big pots and pans to be washed so that was why I ended up filling the dishwasher and running it. I did a little crocheting then played my Jewel Quest game for about two hours until my eyes started to cross. I knew then it was time to stop for a while. I don't seem to be able to stay away from it for too long. I'll be playing it again tomorrow, I know.

Lady Learns To Tease Baron....
The Beast bought Lady a little stuffed toy a week or so ago. She doesn't carry it around much but likes to keep it where she can see it. It has a squeaker in it but that's not the appeal for Lady. She loves to tease Baron with it. It's so funny how she does it. She will carry it over by Baron and lay it down like she is offering it to him. He will sniff it and, if he looks like he is going to pick it up, she snatches it away and runs off a few paces with it and looks back at Baron to see if he is going to chase her for it. Usually, Baron will just look at her and then turn away and go lay down. He's wise to her tricks. But does it discourage her? No, she acts like she is sorry she teased him and will go lay down next to him and again offer it to him. But, the minute he looks interested again, she will snatch it back and start chewing on it. Baron will fall for it every time and Lady acts like she is really clever. Later on, we will see the toy underneath one of the end tables or under the coffee table where Lady can easily retrieve it but not Baron.
If you have ever watched dog's playing, it looks like they are going to bite each other. It even sounds ferocious. But you will also not see them ever bite even with their teeth bared. Sometimes, however, it's Lady that forgets it's playing and she will bite Baron. He stops dead when that happens and Lady, realizing she's gone too far, will turn over on her back in submission. Baron will sniff her and then.....the game begins again. We get tired of it after a while and make the dogs go lay down to settle down and relax.
Another great day today. It was very nice outside. Very warm and sunny. Tonight is a bit warmer than last night but still a bit chilly. I made my stuffed peppers tonight for us and made some meatball shapes with the excess meat. I also made some cheese mashed potatoes to serve with the stuffed peppers for our dinner. The Beast was very happy. Another meal *I* made and he didn't have to....LOL!
The Beast had the AC on....again. If it hits 80 outside (and it's going to all week long!), he just has to have the AC. He's such a wuss about heat. I love it and was glad that the screen doors were open most of the day. But it kept him indoors most of the day. If he spent more than 5 minutes outside, he would come in sweating. The bad part is that he eventually gets cranky because he can't do what he wants to do outside without his body punishing him.
He was tickled that he got an invitation to a Graduation Party today and the parents had used a picture that HE had taken on it of the grad. I recognized it as soon as I saw it and told him so. That also tickled him. How pleased he was just made me smile.

Prayer Request.....
This is something I haven't really done unlike Bratfink who has a huge group of friends that often send in prayer requests to her and she passes that information along to them. My bff, Carol, has a son, Randy, that lives with Hep C (which is bad enough!) but I was told that two weeks ago he was rushed to the hospital in afib. That's atrial fibulation (sp) and it's serious as hell. People can have afib without actually having a bad heart valve. My girlfriend, Marilyn's husband has it and no bad heart. It's very bad to have, however. It has taken them two weeks to finally get his heart back into a normal rhythm. Can you imagine how a mother feels when she watches her child suffer constantly? Besides that, she has had to run the flower shop every day since that is the source of Randy's income. So tonight, please say a little prayer for him. His name is Randy. God will know who you are praying for and I believe in the power of prayer. Even from strangers.
My day was awesome! Cee and I made it to the Grand Opening. Aldi's paid for the cart rental (it's a quarter that you get back when you return the cart) but it meant no digging in your purse for the quarter. The employees were all friendly and helpful. I hope that part lasts because they were more helpful than the one's at my sister-in-law's Aldi up North. Aldi's gave everyone a free shopping bag. It's nice. Made of fabric and has a supported bottom. It's actually larger than most shopping bags (the paper ones) so it's great for storing and bringing home the things you buy there. Cee had brought three bags with her and that worked out just fine. She needed two and I used one of hers. The Beast normally keeps our bags out in the garage since that is how we go out to our cars usually but Cee and I went out the front door to her car so I forgot to grab one.
I admit that all the walking damn near did me in but I made it. The day was sunny and warm. It's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow (it hit 83 today and is supposed to be 86 or higher tomorrow. Isn't that great? I forgot to check the strawberries but I'll do it tomorrow. I made our dinner tonight and the main dish was ....STEAMED SHRIMP ! I bought the jumbo raw (frozen) and they were incredibly tasty. I also made us some fresh cauliflower but it was a bit overcooked. I put it on to simmer then went to check my email and forgot it was on until I smelled it. But we ate it anyway.....LOL. I still love it's taste with a bit of butter on it.
The Beast's tomato plants are doing great as I told you and I checked the sizes of the one that has six tomatoes already on it. Nice big ones for so early after planting. They fit nicely in my palm....LOL. But they are still a bit too deep a green for fried green tomatoes. I finally got the Beast thinking about those and, when I found little tomatoes starting on his other plants (he has six so far even tho' he said he was only planting three this year. Told you!)
The Beast is going to be taking pictures at a wedding soon so he is checking out his lenses and the best settings for them at different distances. It's going to be for one of the women at his church. Her fiance' is from Nicaragua (same church, different pew) and they are wrestling with immigration right now so they CAN get married. He took several pictures of me while he took note of how far away he was. He's checking to make sure he doesn't have a lens that ends up looking like it's a fish eye one at greater distances. Some focal points are more sensitive than others and he has so many different lenses, he's forgotten which has that kind of problem. I looked at the pictures and realized that my posture is awful. I guess I have to wear my back brace for a while to correct that. *Sigh* I threw back my shoulders to the last few he took and that helped.
The Beast cleaned the floors with his steamer while I cleaned the kitchen. I also emptied the dishwasher and put everything away. After dinner, I cleaned up all the dishes and cookware and put them in the dishwasher. I spent more time on my feet today, doing things than I have in a long time. Aldi's plus making dinner and cleaning up the kitchen and I didn't even take a nap! But I flaked out around 7pm and just woke up a half hour ago. That's what I call a nice nap. I'll go back to bed in about another half hour and will probably sleep the rest of the night.....LOL. But nothing hurts and that's good.
Love you all. Please remember Randy in your prayers. I hope you all have fantastic weather without the threat of tornadoes. The poor people in the Great Plains area! I'm saying a prayer for them that the damage is not extensive and that no one has lost their life. I've been in a tornado and we lost everything we had back then. It's a long time ago but I remember it vividly. Sometimes it seems almost like it happened just a short time ago.

After dinner, I cleaned up all the dishes and cookware and put them in the dishwasher. I spent more time on my feet today, doing things than I have in a long time. Aldi's plus making dinner and cleaning up the kitchen and I didn't even take a nap! But I flaked out around 7pm and just woke up a half hour ago. That's what I call a nice nap. I'll go back to bed in about another half hour and will probably sleep the rest of the night.....LOL. But nothing hurts and that's good.
Love you all. Please remember Randy in your prayers. I hope you all have fantastic weather without the threat of tornadoes. The poor people in the Great Plains area! I'm saying a prayer for them that the damage is not extensive and that no one has lost their life. I've been in a tornado and we lost everything we had back then. It's a long time ago but I remember it vividly. Sometimes it seems almost like it happened just a short time ago.

The Beast's Tomatoes Are Thriving!
I am totally amazed at just how well the Beast's tomatoes are doing. He must be developing a real green thumb. His flowers are thriving too and I have some pics I will share with you.

Of course, he has multiples of some flowers but I tried to give you at least a hint of how well they are doing. Many of these started from seeds. A couple from bulbs except for the orchid, of course. That is one of mine that he's been tending after I got it through the winter. One of mine died however, regardless of what I could do. *Sigh*
I wanted him to take a picture of his tomatoes but he said he would when they turn red. I'm looking at them like *they are just PERFECT for fried green tomatoes* and he was horrified. LOL!
I got lazy and didn't fold my clothes today but spent a lot of time outside in our 83 degree weather. It was fantastic. The Beast took the two dogs for a run and were gone a much longer time than usual. I found out that Lady saw a cow in this one farm field by us and was barking like crazy at it. She would come when the Beast called her then run back to the barbed wire fence to bark some more. The cow just had this dumbfounded look on her face. Lady finally ran back, jumped between the second and third strand of barbed wire into the field and had a ball bark and chasing the poor cow around. The Beast thought it was funny. He finally got Lady to come back and she jumped between the barbed wire again and the three of them finally came home. I guess Lady will protect us against any stray cows that might be threatening us.
The dryer is calling me to come and get my refreshed clothes so I better post this. Love you all. More 80 degree weather tomorrow *grin* so I will be out in it just enjoying myself. We have been drinking it outside on the deck even tho' (sob!) is not Kahua coffee any more. We used up the last of the beans and now are back to *normal* coffee. We'll get used to it again, I'm sure. But sitting outside is great. Guess I am out of hibernation again.
I am going with Cee to the Grand Opening of Aldi's tomorrow. That will be a real treat. I can hardly wait. So be good. Remember to be kind to everyone because you want them to be kind to you, too. ***Hugs***
