Just Thinking.....

I've been sitting here looking at the small pictures that I have of Chewlee.  Some of them I haven't shared with you.  I was thinking how many different moods she has and realizing that she is showing a lot of the personality that she will carry into adulthood.  Which means she will have some rough roads ahead of her.  She can be ornery, opinionated, stubborn in her beliefs and she is a definite chatty Cathy type.  But she can also be charming, sweet and loving.  She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and she likes people regardless of their race, religion or opinions on other things.  She has no idea what politics are yet so who knows where that will end up?

She accepts everyone until they hurt her.  Then that is the only reason she may or may not continue to play with or like them.  But she also forgives easily.  Being very much like her in that way, I know that she will be disappointed with people later on in life.  Not everyone has such forgiving hearts.

But I love this little girl with all my heart.  She can frustrate me at times but that's just a momentary thing.  She loves cats more than dogs and I think it's that independence that appeals to her as much as their nutty personalities.  She has a tender heart, too.  She hates to see even insects that are injured.  She loves butterflies but isn't sure she likes when they are caterpillars as much as she did when she was younger.  She will touch them and even let them crawl on her....for a few minutes.  But it's not her favorite stage of butterfly at all.  Her very favorite insect is a ladybug.  I know that later on, she will be trying to catch and keep lightning bugs because all kids go through that stage.

She's terrified of fire ants and hasn't yet learned to identify them so  that she knows which ants do NOT bite.  She was bitten by fire ants and don't we all remember THAT when it happens to us?  I remember fire ants being in a plant we got once from a private laboratory that was developing designer orange trees.  As I went to pull the plant out of the container it was in to plant it in our yard, they ran up my arm.  Luckily, I was kneeling next to our pool and I plunged my arm into it to drown the suckers as I swiped them off my arm.  I was stung a lot and I hated those ugly postules you get from their bite.  I am NOT fond of fire ants at all.

I once took Chewlee around our yard and put down fire ant bait around every single ant hill I found.  I'm sure some of them were not fire ants but I wanted Chewlee to know that I wouldn't tolerate their being in MY yard!  But she is still very careful of ANY ant hill.  She assumes they are all fire ant hills until it's proven otherwise.  Actually, fire ants make much larger hills than regular ants so it's a fair bet you can tell which is which.  Being in the South, it's fire ant heaven so you fight the good fight to get rid of them from YOUR property at least.  That's about the best you can hope for if they don't take the bait down to the nursery level for the queen.

I'm waiting for Chewlee to be dropped off by the school bus.  Every day is a surprise with her and I wait to see what she has in store for me today.  We will read another book for her special reading project that the school has.  It's the one that is monitored and she gets questioned on each and every book after she has read them.  There are only three questions, I believe and she is graded on her responses.  The questions relate to her understanding of what she has read.

I thought it was kind of funny how difficult it was for her to pronounce *foal*.  I have no idea why it was so difficult for her.  I made her write it and pronounce it several times before we read the book the last two times.  I mean before SHE read the book.  I don't read them to her but I do help her sound out some of the words she has a problem with.  She actually reads much better than she believes she can.  She surprises me at times even.  She also gets very animated while reading and gives the proper emphasis where it's required.  It's cute to listen to for me.  But then, I am much more patient and have less things that require my attention now that we are retired.

Anyway, I just felt like sharing my thoughts with you.  Hope you have had a great Friday.  **Wink**  Love you all.
