As I mentioned a couple days ago, there was a change in the whole IV situation. The strength was increased by 200 I.U. but I only have to do it once a day instead of twice. It seems my system doesn't get rid of it like it should so they are giving me more at one sitting and I will find out tomorrow if my reading is better. The nurse took more blood samples today to be processed.
I told the nurse about calling the pharmaceutical company and speaking with the pharmacist because I just could NOT stay awake for more than an hour or two after the IV strength was changed. The pharmacist told me the reaction was normal for some people but not something to worry about. I would adjust to it and be able to resume a normal life. Normal? What the hell is THAT?
The nurse also said she had seen that same reaction in other patients like me and that it passed. She was glad I had called the company (they also do the blood processing to check on the level of the medication remaining in my system after the 24 hour period). The nurse timed her visit to draw the blood just before I had to do it once more.
Chewlee was just infatuated with the whole process. No, she didn't see the nurse take the blood. That was done through the port I have in my chest but Chewlee was engrossed in her cartoons. She was, however, nosy about the blood pressure cuff (and if it hurt me), the oxygen detector and the temperature gauge. She still has memories of the doctor using a cuff on HER and that it hurt her....but just for a little while she assured me. She wanted no part of the oxygen detector on her finger but, after seeing ME use it, then she wanted to try it. She was so smug when her count was one higher than mine was...LOL!
The Beast got home around 5:30pm. He had left Chicago around 3:30 or 4am and had expected to be home earlier but he was falling asleep behind the wheel. He pulled over into a rest area and took a short nap after he snapped awake suddenly while he was driving. After he pulled into the rest area, he called me to tell me what he was doing and why. I told him to take however long a nap he needed before getting on the road again. And that's what he did and why he arrived two hours later than expected.
In the meantime, I made a great welcome home meal for us. Baked whole chicken, stuffing, oyster dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and hot dinner rolls. We will be eating chicken for a couple days now because the chicken has a generous amount of breast meat. I told the Beast that I will slice that up tomorrow, put it in the gravy and serve it as an open-face sandwich. Since the gravy was really tasty, the Beast said that sounded like a plan to him. Chewlee even indulged in dinner with us as long as *she could pick out what she ate*. She then took a big dinner plate and ate some chicken, green beans and two dinner rolls with butter. The rolls were hot so I buttered them for her. She wasn't happy about that even after I told her why I was doing it. She kept saying she was a *big* girl now and could do it for herself! If they hadn't JUST come out of the oven, I would have let her do it herself and told her that. As it is, the tips of my fingers on my left hand still feel a little *burnt*
Oh, and don't worry about how little Chewlee ate. In the previous two hours, she had consumed a salami sandwich, two small dill pickles and a Cup O Noodles. The kid never goes hungry here. I have this *thing* about letting a kid go hungry because I remember what that feels like from when *I* was a kid. There were times when groceries were a bit scarce when I was a kid and it seemed more important to me that the little ones were fed well than it was for me to be full. I learned to love eating macaroni and cheese because Mom always made a HUGE pot and we could pig out on it. It was tough to feed seven kids and two adults in the early 50's. But things got better. Never fear!
It's 32 degrees outside right now and supposed to go down into the 20's tonight. Our high will be around 45 they claim. We shall see. It will be whatever it chooses to be and we will brace for it. I'm tired so I am heading back to bed. I put all the food away and we will pick at it tomorrow. Right now my tummy is still full and I am content.
Love you all and remember not to drink and drive tomorrow night. Celebrate the New Year but have a designated driver or take a taxi to and from any party you might be attending. The cops will be out en masse just looking for drivers that have had too much to drink. I don't go out on New Years Eve and haven't for years. We consider it *amateur night*.....LOL! I will have a glass or two of wine and fall asleep before midnight more than likely. But I am an oldER person. **Wink**
