Looks like more weird weather is hitting both the Midwestern states and they are saying a LOT of snow for D.C. and New York. I don't think we can get use to all the strange weather we are getting now. Strange to think of it being caused by US. Looks like technology has a real down-side to it. As much as we love all the convenience, can we live with what it is doing to the world's weather? Worse still, do we really think we can help heal it? I don't know if that's really true.
I like to check on the Weather channel from time to time and that's how I know what the weather forecast is for the country. I worry when we are having warm weather with a cold front behind it. That's what seems to spawn the truly bad weather fronts that cause so many problems and, unfortunately, deaths. Sad but true. I haven't heard what the latest news is from the areas that have already been hit by tornadoes but it will still cause a lot of heartache for the people affected. The best we can hope for is that it's mostly loss of power from downed lines and fallen trees. The worst I don't even want to think about. It's all just too sad.
They are saying it's possible for our area to be hit tomorrow by at least high winds. All we can do is wait and see. At least I won't be up all night worrying.....this time.
It was another nice, peaceful day for us. The Beast got his new lens for the camera (a used one) and took some pictures with it. Not pictures he wanted to keep....just to check on sharpness and a few other things like depth of field and how wide a field it gave him. The lens looks like new. I think it was probably returned due to one feature it doesn't have...and that is a very new feature of lots of lenses. It helps prevent loss of focus due to shaking when it's hand-held. But he's either gotten stronger or using the speed he was made a difference. But enough of that.
I'm just gathering strength with my up-and-down chores I do. Today was a good day and no back aches. But I am tired and it's late for me so I bid you all good night.
Love you all. Be kind to everyone. ***Hugs***

This Weather
Our high today was 62 degrees...or so they say. Our outside thermometer never got higher than 56 degrees. It was nice and sunny out but a bit on the breezy side. That lasted until around 3pm. Then it got overcast and kind of dark and stormy looking but we didn't get any rain around this area. Tomorrow we are supposed to get up into the lower 70's. ???? What in the world is going on with the weather these days? Is this what global warming is all about? I went to bed early so I missed the local news but my Weatherbug gives me the forecast for the next 10 days. As if...!
I woke up a bit ago to use the bathroom and decided I should get this blog done. I ended up having most of the day without the Beast around. He went to church this morning and stayed out with a few of the people from his church. They had lunch together and, later on, dinner. They made a few calls to shut-ins and to cheer up some people that have been sick. I had heard that the hospitals were all full (the three that are within a 25 mile area) so I guess the weather (and, possibly, the flu) has hit a lot of people badly.
It's so crazy how the temperatures have varied so greatly. You just never know what the day is going to be like....or even how cold the night will end up. The Beast didn't get home until almost 6pm. The dog was mad at him but, when he decided he had ignored him long enough, was driving him nuts with how *needy* he was for attention.
I wish you could see how Dennis *talks* to us. It's hysterical to see. You know he's trying to tell you something...maybe about his day or what he liked or didn't like about his dinner...but he will keep it up for the longest time. It makes you laugh to watch him. Our neighbor, Dennis (we didn't name the dog, don't forget!), said we should try to teach him to say words like some dogs you see in videos on either TV or the internet. Oh sure! Like that's something anyone can do!
I enjoyed making myself breakfast and had a light lunch and then made myself some chicken wings for my dinner, along with some cole slaw. I knew the Beast would be eating out since he's been doing it on the days that he makes those calls with his fellow church-goers. He's discovered a couple of neat small restaurants in the area that he didn't even know were around, including a couple very good Mexican ones.
I did find out one thing that surprised me. Diane told me that the Beast was really upset over how ill I was when I was in the hospital. She said he hadn't thought about the fact that *I* could die before he did and, when he found out how much blood I had lost, he was really freaked out. She had never seen him so upset in all the years we've known her and Dennis. That was a real shock to me.
He has accepted the fact that he will probably die before I do and, faced with the possibility that I might die, he was beside himself. He told Diane that he felt I was better prepared to take care of the things that would need doing than he was so he hadn't even thought about life without me around. He said he wouldn't even know what to do first. Diane told him that was what friends were for....to help you get through the bad times we all face from time-to-time. She's right and I'm glad she said it to him.
I am definitely feeling more and more like myself although I still don't have a whole lot of endurance. Yesterday I ended up putting on my back brace for several hours because I really didn't want to take more pain pills and it DOES help...for a while. But it becomes uncomfortable after a while. It got me through, however, and that's all that counts. I took it off when I went to bed and it was a relief....LOL. How can something be so helpful and yet so uncomfortable at the same time?
Well, I am heading back to bed now so I will bid you good night. Love you all. Take care of yourselves. Pay attention to your health. It's important, trust me on that. I sure found out even though I don't know how I could have prevented what happened to me. How can you tell when you are bleeding internally? I know some of the signs NOW but it was the last thing I had on my mind since I suffer so when I have a bad bout of IBS-D. That's what it seemed like I was having at the time. But the extreme weakness was a definite difference that should have told me it was more serious. Oh well. Hindsight is always 20/20. ***Hugs***

Surprise! She's Home Already....
By *she*, I mean Diane. I don't know why I'm surprised since I was home the day after my gall bladder was removed but I thought the infection would keep her in a bit longer.
She says she is on two different antibiotics since they are treating it aggressively. She said they were doing the same thing right from when they first started treating her after finding the infection. But, she said the tests showed an increase in her white blood cells so her body was responding to the treatment and she had no fever for most of the night and all day today until she got home.
She told me the worse part of her getting so ill the night she finally knew she needed to go to the hospital was that she started vomiting and couldn't stop. They had a hard time stopping it at the hospital, too. It was such a relief when they finally did stop it that she said she fell asleep for the first time in two days.
She feels great today....in comparison to how she felt a few days ago. She wants to show me the *picture* of her gall bladder with all the stones she had in it. She said she was shocked when she saw it. I had quite a few, too, but I don't think as many as she says she had. But I had some big ones, that much I remember. I didn't elect to keep the picture of mine, however. That just seems weird to me.
I made us some salmon patties for dinner tonight. It had a *use by...* date that was last year and we debated whether we were going to use it or not but I decided to go ahead. I did find out that the *use by...* has a point, however. It's *taste*. A lot of the salmon taste was lost in just a couple months of it being past due. From now on, out the cans go if they are past. If it were just ...say...a month, then maybe. But if it's more than 3-4 months...out it goes. I happen to like the taste to be as I remember it. This was kind of *flat* tasting. But we ate several hours ago and no other problems have popped up so .....
It's not going to be as cold at night as it has been, thank goodness. Even if it's just for a week, I'll take that. I hate having to turn up the heat because it dries out my nose. And, with my allergies having an early *wake up* by this weird, warm weather, I am sneezing. When I sneeze, my nose sometimes bleeds when it's gotten all dried up from the heat. I just can't win.
I was shocked to see the peach trees and the plum all have blossoms on it. The Beast says so does the pear trees. Even the trees are confused by the strange weather pattern this year. I've noticed that the firs/pines/spruce trees are throwing out their spores. I had a coating of light yellow *dust* on my table on the deck. *Sigh* We don't usually see that until April or May.
I spent today watching BBCAmerica because they have been running their documentaries about Earth, the Blue Planet. I love their documentaries. They are always informative and fascinating. How they manage to get some of the underwater scenes is mind-boggling. It was a really nice day in that way for me. I think the only thing I enjoy more is the new ones on Discovery that is all about the various dinosaurs, using the new technique for their animation. It's just amazing.
Okay, bedtime for me. I'm tired and this is late for me but I wanted to watch the Animal Planet series on the Bronx Zoo. I find it's done in a very interesting manner and is very informative. It makes me want to see that zoo even....LOL. And, trust me, I am not fond of New York at all.
Love you all. Be good. Be happy. Surround yourself with only positive people who love you (or like you) just the way you are. ***Hugs***

Nothing New .....
I think I understand why Bratfink doesn't post every day. Some days there really just isn't anything going on. It was kind of a nice day today for most of it. But it got stormy looking late in the afternoon and looked really nasty by about 5:30pm. However, no storm hit us so I guess it had already played itself out before hitting our area.
The day was nice and quiet. I stayed in my jammies all day...LOL. But, since it was definitely on the cool side, it meant I stayed nice and warm.
We are getting low on our GB's again so this will be a short blog. I really hate it when that happens. If we get too low, we end up having to *buy* more GB's and that gets expensive at $10. The Beast doesn't seem to understand that his watching various videos eats up the GB's. He tries to make me feel like I am responsible but I knew we were getting low so I waited to even read the news and such until after 2am. He is never up at that hour so he can't say he does the same.
He did the epsom salt bath again tonight because he said he slept good last night. I could tell it was bothering him again today because of the way he was holding his side. I'm positive he cracked a rib or two now or he would be over the *hurting* stage if he had just hurt the muscles when he fell. He won't go to the doctor so there's nothing to be done but let him heal in time.
Well, time for me to get to bed. I'm really tired tonight. I was up and about a lot again...just to be on my feet. Love you all. Keep safe. Stay warm and dry. ***Hugs***

Different Day, Multiple Bouts Of Weather.
What a difference a day makes! Today was a lot cooler than yesterday....about 20 degrees cooler. It actually got up into the 70's yesterday but today it barely got above 50 until this afternoon. It started out bright and sunny, however, and that was nice but then we got rain in the afternoon. At least the threat of tornadoes was gone.
By evening, we got a bit of sun again but it stayed very cloudy. Tonight it will be down in the mid-30's so I have a nice warm pair of jammies on. I can't wait for it to be Spring and then will welcome Summer to our area!
The Beast decided to do a soaker bath tonight with some epsom salts. Everyone kept telling him that it would help those muscles in his side and back that were causing him pain and he finally was ready to try anything to feel better. Guess what? It DID make those muscles loosen up and they stopped hurting him to the point where he told me it felt like 80% of the *hurt* was gone. He went to bed early since he felt like he would sleep much better and he wanted that most of all.
Since I have been going to bed so much earlier, I am finding I get tired earlier, too. I'm not taking a nap much these days either. The Beast has been doing an early bedtime for months (on most nights) and I hear him get up when he puts the coffee pot on in the morning. It's usually right around 5:30-6am. If he has a bad night, he will sometimes not get up until around 7-7:30am.
We found out today that, for some reason, they decided they had to operate on Diane today. Dennis knew we were thinking of going to see Diane so he called when he got to the hospital and found out she was already in the operating room at 9:30am. He was shocked but had no idea why they changed their mind about waiting until the infection was cleared up. When he came home, he said that she was pretty much *out of it* and he hadn't seen the doctor so he still was clueless. He hopes it doesn't cause any serious problems with her recovery and so do I.
I remember when I finally got my gall bladder removed. I had gall stones and it caused me a LOT of pain. That pain was gone but it was replaced with a different kind of pain that I really can't describe. That took me a while to get over and it left me very weak for about a week. I couldn't lift anything that weighed more than 5 lbs. for a month (doctor's orders) and, trust me, I wouldn't have tried! I DID wonder if it had to do with organs shifting around inside me and my body getting use to not having a gall bladder to aid in digestion.
Bedtime for Bonzo now so I will bid you all good night and sweet dreams. Love you all. ***Hugs***

We Get Lucky!
I spent most of last night without sleep and then was wide awake today while we got some torrential rains. I say *rains* because we got a series of them. It was a very active weather day, to say the least. Lots of areas had really bad storms with high winds that brought down trees, power lines and caused damage to houses, sheds, cars and trucks. Other areas had some bad flooding from the rain. We lucked out and just had some really heavy rain and some high winds but no damage to any structures or vehicles. At one point, it was raining really hard with such high winds that the rain was actually horizontal. That really looked weird!
All is quiet now and for that, I am grateful. I am so damn tired that I was falling asleep as I tried to play one of my games. I think I should take the hint and get my butt to bed. I'll do that just as soon as I finish this.
I think our chickens might be brain-damaged. Really! Several of them were outside while it was pouring. It wasn't until the wind got really bad that they headed back into the barn. I like a nice shower, too, but I think I prefer it to be a bit more gentle than this rain was....LOL! Even Dennis wanted to be out in the rain until it got really heavy and we were getting a lot of thunder. He's not afraid of thunder but the heavy rain had that as part of the package. The dog just LOVES the rain. He's not the least bit put off by it raining outside when he needs to relieve himself. That is so different from Baron. Baron wouldn't even go out in a drizzle. And get his feet wet?? No, no, not him! Labs are just so different from Dobermans.
I found out why Diane is in the hospital. Dennis had to call an ambulance for her because she wasn't able to sit for him to drive her to emergency. We never saw or heard that but it was around 2am, I gather. She suspected she might have gall stones because of some pain that she was having. Why is it that doctors don't seem to want to go to their own doctors? She knew she should have gone in but I guess she was hoping she would pass whatever was causing the pain.
BUT...as they found out when they got her in emergency, she developed an infection and it's a serious infection. She was very, very lucky that she didn't develop sepsis but she was close. So they are treating her with some heavy antibiotics right now to get the infection knocked down. She needs to have her gall bladder removed but they can't operate on her while she has the infection. I'm going to go up to see her tomorrow and see how she is doing. I have a hunch she won't be a good patient. But then, what doctor is??? What's worse is she is a psychiatrist and you know what they say about them.....LOL! Don't get me wrong. I like Diane. We've been friends for many, many years now. She IS a bit on the strange side but aren't we all in one way or another? Well, maybe she's a bit stranger than most but she's likeable and fun.
I'm done for tonight and heading for bed now. Good night, sleep well my friends and family. Love you all. ***Hugs***

I Can't Help It ! (Second post of the day)
Having gone through a direct hit by a tornado years ago and then having two near misses within the last five years, I have mixed feelings about the possibility of a tornado hitting us. First of all, this house is little better than a mobile home because of the crawl space under the house. I would have preferred we either had a basement or was on a cement slab. The wind could catch that space and just lift our whole house up in the air with no problem.
When Dennis and Diane built their house across the street and built a safe room (aka storm shelter) into it that we have been invited to share, that took some of the *scary* out of the possibility of a tornado hitting us directly. There is enough time between spotting one and having it hit that we should be able to make it across the street. We even have a key to their house should they not be home.
When we were hit by a tornado years ago, it was truly a scary event. To see the roof over our head just get sucked up into the air was life-changing. I didn't even stop to think but headed for the porch to get down to the basement of the apartment building we lived in at the time. It never even occurred to me that I was stark naked at the time but the Beast grabbed our comforter and put it around me to cover me up. Of course, with the crazy wind, it was more of a cape until we got out of the wind.
I'm not going to describe it all but, for years, I could not sleep during a thunderstorm but would be up until it passed or it got light outside. The worst things that can happen with a tornado is for it to be either *rain-wrapped* in a super storm cell or for it to hit at night. You can't see it at night except if you spot it during lightning strikes.
I'm not so much afraid of tornadoes like I once was but I DO find it difficult to sleep when it's possible for one to hit us during the night. You can't count on someone spotting it in time to hit the warning sirens. I want enough time to get out of here with the pets and our medications and important papers so I end up being unable to sleep. That's because the Beast threw out our storm warning radio. He hated the *alert* on it....and it alerted us any time one was spotted within a 50 mile radius. Some of those travel very, very fast but he seems to think we will always wake up before we get hit. Sure....sure we will.
The series of tornadoes that have already hit in various parts of Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky have had me worried just because of all the family and friends we have in those areas. I want no one to suffer but especially my family. We've lost enough family and friends due to natural causes. I would hate to have a tornado or two be responsible for losing anyone.
So here I sit, typing away and it isn't even raining right now. But the weather prediction says 100% chance of showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of destructive high wind gusts and/or tornadoes. *Sigh* I opened up the window here in my computer room so that I can hear the sirens....if they go off. It will also allow me to hear the wind when it starts up and I can always go out on the deck to see what I can see. Forewarned is forearmed.
Poor Diane is in the hospital. I got an email from Dennis after they admitted her but he didn't say why she was admitted. I will have to call in the morning. She never gets sick so that's kind of scary. It has to be serious. She's a doctor and is very conscious of keeping healthy with a good diet and some supplemental vitamins. She's not a nut about that, just likes a good vitamin and mineral supplement since no one can eat all the nutrition needed every day. It's always worked for her and it's sure helped Dennis since he had his kidney removed after they discovered it was cancerous. He's been very active and seems in fairly decent health since then. I should feel so good!
Well I guess I will close this for now or it will end up a novel. Say a prayer for all the family affected so far by the spate of tornadoes that have already hit in the various states. Last count was 21 reported in eight states and more to come. Love you all. Be safe. ***Hugs***
