Up Again Until After 2am.......

Tonight I have the correct cord plugged into Cee's GPS and I will download the update for it after 2am.  Why at that time do you ask?  Because our Internet provider has this stupid allotment set-up.  We get 30GB's every month BUT....it's divided up this way:  we pay for those 30GB's and get 15GB available to us from 8am until 2am.  The other 15GB are available only from 2am until 8am.  Now, does that make sense to you?

We've had to purchase additional GB's several times since, like most people, we tend to be up and on the internet actually during the hours of 8am until about 10pm.  I am the only one in our household that is sometimes...and that is SOMETIMES....up after 2am.  Those GB's usually don't get used by much unless I stay up, like the past several days, to do special downloads.  Normally, if I get up at that time of night (usually after a nice nap after dinner so I CAN stay up), I play this game I own that I am not using up those GB's because I OWN the game and don't even have to be ON the internet to play it.  The game eventually tires my eyes and enables me to go back to bed and sleep for several more hours.

I really get pissed at our internet provider because they are NOT cheap for what they provide and the strength of the signal we get is spotty.  It's not like a cable connection and, with cable, you don't have to worry about how many GB's you are using.  I personally think the 30GB's we pay for should be the daytime/anytime ones and that all GB's used after 2am should be FREE.  Trust me, it's very expensive for us to even buy that many GB's and that is the largest that they *sell*.  Who says the internet is free???

Anyway, here I am, once again, staying up to download something I should be able to do during the day so that this old lady (I know age is just a state of mind but my body keeps telling me I'm crazy!) wouldn't have to do this crap.  This is one thing I have against Dish satellite service.  If you have it or are thinking about getting it, just remember their policy on internet service so it's not a surprise.  I like their television service (except on stormy days when we often lose it or if we have a heavy snow so that we have to get on a ladder and clean off the dish).  Thankfully we don't often get snow here and that's a good thing.

Tomorrow I will return Cee's GPS to her, bring her back her top that I borrowed the other day and let her borrow my Jurassic World DVD so she can see the new wave of dinosaur killings...LOL.  You have to admire the people who do the animations...they truly are amazing.

The Beast couldn't find his glue that he was going to give me to fix the broken antler on the reindeer I gave the Princess so he had to run over to Lowe's to get me some.  He got me two different kinds. thank goodness.  One is an epoxy (which I didn't want but he will use I'm sure) and the other is Loctite super glue gel.  That is what I wanted since you can use it on porous surfaces (like broken coffee cup handles and, of course, a ceramic antler...LOL).

I am going to close now since the rest of my day was very ho-hum even though our temperature got up to 80 today.  80!  In November!  Weird.  Even Baron didn't want to do anything but sit around.  He didn't even want to go out for a run (which worries me a bit).  He had his eye out for his little buddy across the way from us but he wasn't outside at all today it seems.

Love you all.  Be good.  Dress appropriately for whatever weather you have.  Be kind to everyone even if they don't seem to appreciate it.  You don't know what burdens they may be carrying.  But it costs you nothing and allows you to be the best you that you can be.  Have a great weekend!  ***Hugs***

Spent Most Of The Day With Cee......

Today turned out really nice.  I woke up, got dressed, ate breakfast then went and fell asleep watching TV BUT!...I woke up at a good time to head to Cee's.  We intended to make it over to see the Princess's house once I heard from her.  She had intended to run an errand with her girlfriend and then call me when she got home.  I tried calling once when I hadn't heard from her (this was around 2pm...and was when I discovered my phone did NOT automatically change for me).  I thought it was 3pm but the Princess corrected me when I thought she hadn't picked up Chewlee from school and was late!  DUH!

Anyway, we got in the car and headed over to the new house.  Thank goodness we had the GPS because there is no way that we would have found it otherwise.  Talk about out in the country!  Well, it was slightly better than that because at least all the roads were paved....LOL!  But, I was shocked at how great her house is!  I just loved the fireplace, which looked great in the pictures but even better once you see it in real life.  Johnnycakes did a great job putting in the new flooring.  It all looks great.  The Princess gave us a tour and you just had to admire what she had done to it with her painting the rooms.  The Beast had seen it before the painting was even started and was horrified at the lack of care by the previous owners.  I gather there were crayon scribbling and pencil drawings on almost all the walls.  The colors that had been painted in the various rooms was just atrocious.  Now the walls are so much more mellow and inviting.  She did a good job picking them out, I have to agree.  I didn't initially.  I guess my color vision is not as good as hers....LOL.

But what I loved, loved, loved was her kitchen.  She has one cabinet that my mouth watered over when she showed it to us.  When you open it, it has sections that she used for spices and small jars then it opens up (and the front sections fold together and there are shelves behind it to hold plenty of canned goods, dry goods and snacky things.  PLUS...the doors have storage, too!  It's incredible.  It leaves all the rest of the cabinets for dishes, pots and pans, electrical appliances (waffle irons, crock pots, etc.) plus your cleaning supplies that you want for the kitchen area and the windows in the breakfast nook (which is a bay window area).

Her laundry room, when she gets it set up the way she wants it, will be totally amazing.  She will have lots of storage in there, too, as well as a pole that she can use to hang things up as she takes them out of the dryer and a nice counter top for folding clothes.  That's already there but she is going to change the door into it so that they can move the washer and dryer to where they should be so she can have full access to that area.

Chewlee's room is big and has a huge closet that she will probably never outgrow.  She enjoyed her first piano lesson and has her keyboard that she practices on next to her bed.  The room has plenty of space for when she needs more drawers (when she gets older) to have a nice dresser (she has a chest of drawers for her folded clothes) and her hanging clothes look lost in her closet right now....LOL.  I loved the baby's crib which has a rustic look to it but it will convert to a twin bed when he gets older.

The house is HUGE and I swear it seems larger than our house in Margate was except that we had a huge screened in patio at the back of the house that had a hot tub and a wet bar out there.  Later, we added a commercial ice machine, too.  But they have so much property that it's incredible.  The neighbors have some cows out on part of it right now but the kids said they don't care until they go to fence it in once all the boundaries are verified and flagged.  That's one thing we have never had was a lot of property.  In Florida, that would have cost us a lot of $$$.  I can see how great that will be for the kids as they are growing up.  Especially once the Princess and Johnnycakes put up a barn and can have horses.  Johnnycake's dad has a few and they may be able to board them for him.  That would give the kids the opportunity to learn to ride them as well as how to bridle and saddle them.  All in good time.......

Cee and I both agreed it was a great house.  We also discussed what we were making to bring over for Thanksgiving.  I'm making oyster dressing and the sweet potato casserole (which is a MUST at any family get-together).  Cee is in charge of making the green bean casserole.  I'm going to have to check and make sure she has a big enough pan for that since she IS making it for a crowd.  She may not since she really never needs to make that much so why would you have a big pan (what would you call it since it's not a casserole and not really what I think of as a pan...?).  Anyway, I have a couple here that she might find she can use.

I brought Cee's GPS home with me so that I can update it since I have an update notice that keeps popping up on my computer.  The Beast keeps saying it may not be free but he isn't sure.  I told him it will tell me if it requires a fee and I will then let Cee know and how much they claim it is.  They originally said it only needs to be updated once a year (and you get a FULL update then) so these pop-ups are puzzling to us but it seems it is more likely a software update since I found them to be much faster than they told me originally and not as many GB's either.

I picked up the deer statue with the broken antler and it looks to be a very easy fix with little touch up required.  I want to get the unpainted one I have done before I bring it back to her so she will not be disappointed.  This one will be Rudolph to help finish the set.  It will only be four reindeer but at least the one that will be repaired looks like a female.  LOL!  We just have to decide which one of the reindeer names sounds the most female.  Vixen?  I think that one works on several levels.  Don't you?

Okay, time to get this posted.  I think it's long enough.  Love you all!  Be good.  Be happy.  ***Hugs***

Waiting For 2am......

Here I am...up, waiting for 2am so I can update my GPS.  I updated the Beast's last night but it didn't update like it normally does.  It only updated changes instead of installing the whole thing again.  It was nice because instead of taking almost an hour to update it, it took only 15 minutes or so.

That meant it didn't use up the whole amount of GB's that it said it would (only took up 1.5GB's) so I am doing mine while I can.  I'll probably grab Cee's tomorrow when I meet up with her before we go over to see the Princess' house.  The Princess is going to call me when she gets home (she is going on an errand with a friend) and we'll leave from Cee's house since it's fairly close.  I'll need my GPS to get there since it's a rural area where the new house is and they can often be tough to find.

It was a beautiful day today but I guess it will come to an end at the end of the week.  I have been watching the weather channel and I understand that the high pressure that has been keeping the cold from zooming down on us will be moving off.  *Sigh*  It figures!  I would keep it away until December (and then wish for an early Spring) but I am not in charge, unfortunately.

Baron has found a new playmate.  It's a rescue dog that one of our neighbors has now.  It's a mixed breed that is obviously part Doxie.  Long bodied, short legs but this one looks like it's part terrier, too.  Anyway, the two of them frolic and play (and wear each other out a bit) and it's kind of cute to watch.  The Beast lets them do that for about 10 or 15 minutes (depending on how bored he gets) and then finishes his run around the circle with Baron.  Baron collapses when he gets in the house and looks so tired and happy that you almost have to laugh at his expression.

Well, it's after 2am now so I am going to close for now and get this posted.  Love you all and be kind to yourselves.  You deserve to be happy, too.  ***Hugs***

Why Are Calm Days Such A Novelty?

I have no idea when this happened but I realized that I seldom have really calm days in my life.  I mean when the day is really one where I feel no anxiety, very little pain and have no upsets.  The Beast starts no small arguments, calls me no names nor does he belittle me in any way at all.  He even makes me laugh a time or two.  He is kindness itself in many ways and doesn't even disturb me much while I am busy doing other things I know he doesn't feel important.  Calm..calm..calm.  It's an amazing feeling.

I didn't even mind that I had to stay up late to download the latest updates for his Garmin GPS.  The cord I had yesterday was not the correct one for his Garmin so it was a wasted effort.  It's also the wrong one for MY Garmin but I think it's the other one he has in his drawer.  It's got a slightly different configuration and I think it also is the one that fits Cee's Garmin, which the Pop-up tells me we have an update for IT now, too.

Anyway, I liked my day today.  I hope you did yours also.  We should appreciate days like this more than we probably do.  We are so used to having this problem or that problem confronting us in some way or another.  From teething babies to headaches at work, we get so wound up in taking care of them that we forget to appreciate the days that go well for a change.  We anticipate problems instead of going with the flow and being thankful at the end of the day that we had CALM.

Love you all.  Short and sweet.  ***Hugs***

Went Over To Cee's Today.....

I went over to Cee's this afternoon and we sat and talked for almost 4 hours!  Seems like we never run out of things to talk about or laugh over.  I wore my heavy blue sweater so I wouldn't have to wear a jacket and ended up feeling over-warm and almost sick from it since the weather was a bit warmer than I thought.  Cee gave me one of her tops to wear (Thanks so much, Sis. I will wash it and bring it back when we go to the Princess' house).

Of course, when I left, I wore her top home and...surprise!  surprise!  It was cooler and rainy when I left.  I should have put on the sweater again but...duh!  I made it home safe and sound, regardless.

I brought Cee some of the chicken and rice I made and she planned on eating it for dinner.  I haven't heard from her yet but I hope she enjoyed it as much as I did.  The Beast ran out after I got home because we were out of the dog food (wet stuff) that Baron likes so much.  He buys it at a local feed store that has food for everything from birds, squirrels to cows and horses.  I actually like to browse around when I go with him because it's really so interesting to see all the different supplies they have.  Even cowbells, saddles and bridles.  Just plain interesting to a city folk...LOL!

I had put my movie aside to bring to Cee (the one my bff sent me...Jurassic World) and forgot it when I left.  No matter, I will bring it over for her to watch when I see her on Wednesday or Thursday.  Everything depends on when Gunner is feeling better because we are anxious to see the Princess and Johnnycake's new house.  With Gunner needing to cuddle with his mother while he's not feeling good, it would be hard on her to have us over.  Poor baby is cutting his lower molars now (the top one's broke through and the lower ones are tougher to break through) and his ear infection, it's a tough time for her.

Chewlee started her piano lessons today and I'm anxious to hear how things went.  I know she wants to learn and it will be interesting how well she does and if she practices every day.  I would love to buy her one of those electronic keyboards but they are a bit pricey for us right now.  Besides, I live with Scrooge, remember.  As it is, I am going to have to buy things starting right now for the kids at least.  I think I have the grownups covered...perhaps!

I need to pick up the reindeer with a broken antler and repair that for the Princess.  I need it to make sure the one I have here that needs painting matches the colors.  The one I have is going to be Rudolph (red nose and all!).  It's the one thing missing.  I have to get up in the attic and try to find the Santa cookie jar, sugar and creamer.  I don't remember giving those away but....  I think I need to find out if I gave that to Tara.

Did I mention that Rhett Butler, her dad, came to Michael's birthday party last week?  It was a surprise to me.  I had no idea he had driven up here from Florida to help celebrate Michael's 40th birthday.  A good time was had by all..I gave him a nice fleece blanket to help keep him warm when his wife, Lucia, isn't there.  She goes home to Guatemala from time to time and I told him that now that he was *old*, he would need it when he watches TV or a DVD.  LOL!

Lucia is adorable and so beautiful, too.  She made the cake, which was delicious.  Her family bakes and decorates cakes for their living and she can really decorate her cakes beautifully.  I'm very impressed with her for that, too.  We all contributed food for the party and it was delicious.  A good time was had by all.

Well, I am staying up tonight to download an update for the Beast's GPS.  One of those balloons keeps popping up on my computer telling me that it's available.  Since the Beast is planning on driving up to Chicago to see his brother and sister (and help his brother build a new computer), it's important that his Garmin is updated before mine.  We are limited in the amount of computer GB's that we can use from our satellite supplier.  His download is 4.2GB's (out of 15 we are allowed from 8am to 2am.  Then we have another 15GB's available to us from 2am until 8am.  It will be 2am in 10 minutes and I will download his then.  We get new GB's on the 15th of the month and I will do after that.  Another night I will be up until after 2am!  But I take a nap for a few hours after dinner so I am not so tired that I can't stay up.

Well, time to get this posted and into my pj's so I can hit the sack again once that is done.  Love you all.  Remember....hug the ones you care for now while they are here.  You can't hug a memory.  Send flowers to parents and grandparents while they are with you.  It's better while they are alive than after they are dead.  Sad but true!  ***Hugs***

The Weather Stunk But I Had A Good Day....

Overcast, rainy (sometimes it rained HARD) and cold.  Not a good day for going outside although, when the rain was just a slight mist, I did try to get Baron to go out since he had been up for several hours without going outside to pee.  BUT...I made my chicken and rice dish today.  It was actually a modification of one I used to make when I had less time to spend on making meals (when my kids were still home).  Plus, over the years, I have learned more about the taste and use of spices in food so I rolled up my sleeves shortly after the Beast went to church.

I cut up the onion, green onions (with tops), celery, green pepper, fresh cayenne peppers (courtesy of Dennis and Diane's garden in their *barn*), chopped the garlic, cut the chicken tenderloins into bit size pieces and then started.  I browned the chicken in my Dutch oven, put it aside and then threw in the garlic and onions, I added the rest of the veggies and let them simmer with the lid on for a few, stirring often.  Then the finish was adding the rice, the chicken and the chicken broth.  After letting it simmer for a while, I tasted it and added the additional salt and pepper, to taste.

It was low-sodium chicken broth (the Beast never reads the labels!) so it DID need more salt and a touch of dried cayenne pepper to give it a bit more snap without making it too spicy.  I let it simmer for an hour and it was ready when the Beast got home.  Although I had told him I was going to make it, he walked in, smelled the food and asked me what I was making.  I just shook my head and told him.  He said it smelled great!  Since he ate two bowls of it (he hadn't eaten breakfast) and then ate some again for dinner, I guess he meant it.  I know when I tasted it after it was done, I felt it tasted even better than it smelled....LOL.

Talked to Marcus Aurelius today and his promotion was announced at work on Friday and it came with a nice raise.  We knew it was coming and he knew which worker was going to be very upset over him getting the position.  The guy really felt HE should get it on the basis of how long he worked for the company in comparison BUT he doesn't get the fact that it's not just seniority that counts.  It's so many different things.  Knowledge, how you handle criticisms, how you handle customers (and you definitely never call the boss up with complaints after you have been drinking a lot).  Hell, you don't do that after drinking a little!  LOL.  What an idjit!  My son thinks the guy may quit or stick around and try to throw him under a bus somehow but Marcus is too smart for that.  The guy already tried that once and it backfired on him...big time!  I guess he thought his boss was stupid.

I was really a bit upset today after we turned our clocks back.  Is it just me or is the sun setting even earlier than what time it should have set???  It was not long after 4:30pm and I looked outside and it was dark!!!  It made me feel like it was much later than it actually was and even the Beast commented on it when he went to take Baron out before he jumped in the bathtub.  He was shocked!  He had to check the time before he believed it was dark so early.  He doesn't get home from church until a little after noon and he knew he hadn't been home all that long.  How does this help anyone?

Well, I need to jump in the shower and get myself ready for bed.  The Beast just decided he was heading there and I'm a bit tired, too.  Love you all.  Be careful driving tomorrow.  Take care of yourselves and dress appropriately for your weather.  I love you all.  ***Hugs***

A Real Surprise!

I told you yesterday (or the day before...I'm an old lady, remember) about my bff, Carol, telling me she sent me a Halloween treat.  It came today...so appropriate...and I was totally shocked and surprised.  It was the DVD of Jurassic World!  That is one of the DVD's on my *wish list*.  I could havee been knocked over with a feather when I opened the package.  Even the Beast was surprised (he usually ignores my list).  He thinks I have too many DVD's as it is but he never collected anything except expensive camera equipment and boats...LOL.

This goes back all the way to 1975 so you can imagine what he may have spent when you consider that he used to have to buy film for those cameras..and what type it was wasn't the normal stuff so it was expensive.  We also used to develop and print our own film and pictures.  That required an enlarger, stuff to *dodge* areas, the chemicals, reels and containers to develop both the camera film and then paper to develop the pictures.  In some ways it was fun because he did win contests where he competed against even professional photographers and our daughter was a popular subject since she was very photogenic.

But I digress (again!  Sorry).  I watched the movie after I wrote her an email to thank her from the bottom of my heart.  I admit that it took me by surprise since it was very different than I expected but it WAS very exciting.  Full of action.  I won't spoil it for anyone that may want to see it but hasn't yet.  I liked it once I understood how different it was from the other movies.  But it was very engrossing and the same incredible dinosaur animations!  Even the Beast was impressed and said it must be fun to work with that kind of thing and have them look so incredibly real...

I actually watched the movie twice since you always notice new things each time.  I found it even better the second time since I didn't have the questions in my mind like the first time.  Plus, I didn't have the Beast interrupting me.  LOL!

Tomorrow I am making a new recipe for chicken that I found on FB.  I was going to make it today but the Beast said he wanted some fried chicken from Bojangles.  He wasn't fooling me...I knew he just had a taste for their sausage gravy and biscuits.  Sure enough, he bought that as an extra to our meals.  Do I know the man or what??

It wasn't as bad temperature wise today and I think it was mostly due to not much wind until later in the afternoon when the overcast got really thick.  I expect it to rain a lot tomorrow just from watching the radar on the weather channel.  I doubt I will venture out.  I was hoping it might be a nice day so I could find out from the Princess if they were feeling better.

Then I read her post on FB and found out she had taken Gunner to the doctor this morning and the poor baby has an ear infection.  The doctor said it was caught early so it's not as bad as it could have been if she had waited until Monday or so.  She also said that he took his medicine like a champ.  I was glad to hear that.  Maybe Cee and I can go over and see the new house on Monday or Tuesday.  I'll have to see how Gunner is feeling then.  If he's still not feeling well, he will be too *needy* of his mother's attention and we will not be really good company if the Princess is feeling harassed.

Time to go.  It's late (not time to set the clocks back yet and make it a bit earlier...LOL).  Love you all.  Be good to yourselves.  You are the key to your own happiness.  No excuses.  Think about it.  If you have a roof over your head, clean clothes to wear, food on your table, friends who care about you, you are richer than many people.  ***Hugs***
