Changes, Changes, Changes.....

Yes, there were changes made today.  First of all, the doctor changed the *medication* being used in my toe *ulcer* as the doctor calls it.  If you've ever gotten a blood blister on a toe with a thick callus, it's just a hole to me.  However, the doctor got all excited when he discovered the toe is healing!  So he takes me off the medihoney (which is what has been being used and obviously is responsible for the healing taking place) and he puts me on this other stuff that is supposed to work on encouraging fibrous growth or some such garbage.  I cut the material to slightly larger than the *hole* and push it in then wet it or I can wet it first and then put it in.  The material gets like tissue paper.  On top of that I put a square of this oily fabric then it gets bandaged up.  I only have to change it every other day.  However, I guess I skip this weekend because they told me the nurse will do that on Monday for me, I will do it on Wednesday and the doctor will do it for me on Friday.  If it works the way the doctor is hoping, it will continue until it's healed, I guess.

The other change was in my IV.  Yes, again a change.  My level was too low this time so they upped the dosage another 200mg (it's now at 1400mg) and they want me to take 1-1/2 hours for the IV to empty.  They even sent new tubing for me to use with a different dial on it so it will allow me to set it for the slower drip.  Sheesh.  The gal at the lab told me that my level was 11-1/2 (? whatever that means) and they really want to see it around 15 or 16.  Fine.  I do whatever I need to do and try to keep a positive attitude about it all.  If it gets rid of the bone infection, all this aggravation is worth it.

I was laying back in my recliner, watching TV and started feeling the tubing under my skin for the IV.  The doctor said it goes directly into the artery (in my neck, mind you) but I really had no idea just how HIGH up and over my collar bone it went.  I can feel it about 1/3 of the way up my neck.  **Shudder**  This makes me double and triple check the tubing from the IV to make sure there are absolutely NO air bubbles in it.  Can you imagine what one would do to me?  WHAM!  Straight to the brain and I'm dead.  No way, Jose.  I don't care how long it takes for me to make sure there are NO air bubbles in the tubing.  I've BEEN being careful but now I double and triple check.....just to make sure.

The Beast has been going to bed early damn near every night (unless he takes a long afternoon nap).  He only takes a nap if there is a football game on that he really wants to see.  No nap and he can't stay awake to see how the game ends.  He gets up around 6am to let the dog out and he sometimes warms up some coffee for himself but he never takes more than a sip or two and he goes back to bed when the dog comes in.  He wakes up around 8:30am or 9 and takes his time waking up.  I am usually up around 7 or so and I make coffee so the coffee (which goes into a thermal pot) is still nice and hot when he gets up finally.

He sits in his underwear at the table and tries to wake up.  That is, unless Dennis shows up.  Then he perks up a bit, puts on some pants and sits there having coffee with him.  Baron always goes nuts when either Dennis or Di shows up.  He knows that somewhere on their person, they have a *cookie* for him.  Di makes them and Baron is nuts about them.  Is there something like catnip for dogs that I don't know about.  Once they finally give it to him, he goes nuts trying to hide it for later.  This goes on while he moves it from place to place for an hour or more.  He finally gives up and eats it before he can settle down.

There was one really funny thing that happened here today and it has to do with the new dog bed the Beast bought for Baron.  It's one of those that are oval, heavily cushioned and has a kind of wall all around the perimeter.  Baron loves to curl up in it and it protects him from any drafts.  The Beast came home from the store and Chewlee, who had been watching TV out in the living room, had moved the bed onto the Beast's recliner (with footstool up) and SHE was curled up in it with a blanket over her.  He called me out to see it and we both had a good laugh over that.  I was really surprised that Baron wasn't stressing over it but they are like siblings, having grown up together.  It just looked funny as hell.  She was almost asleep in it, too!

It was really, really cold here today.....for Alabama.  The temperature was 20 F but the wind chill made it feel like 10F.  When the Princess got here after work (and ate some of the hot chicken wings I had made), she didn't even want to go out to our garage, even tho' it was almost 56F out there due to the insulation, including the new insulated door.  We do have heat loss along the one wall from the house so that helps keep the temperature up, too.  She actually put her jacket on to go out there for some toilet paper she wanted to borrow.  She left it sitting on the table when she left after all her gripping.  I called her shortly after she left but she didn't want to come back for it and said she would *figure something out*.  I suggested paper toweling if she didn't have any kleenex.  LOL!

Love you all.  Try to stay warm and safe this weekend.  **Wink**
