Getting The Beast Ready.....

The Beast was actually ironing a few wrinkles out of his dress shirts and I almost passed out watching him.  I had to show him how to position the arms because he was totally clueless.  But he wanted them to be perfect for his trip to Atlanta.  You would think that he was going on a job interview.

He looked over his hotel confirmation and discovered it was for one King size bed.  Needless to say, I had to call the hotel since he is sharing the room with his sister and not me.  The hotel said they were booked solid and couldn't do anything about changing it until he checked in.  Then it might only be possible for him to get a cot for the room, which he said would be fine with him.

He almost forgot about taking his pajama bottoms that he wears with a t-shirt when we have company.  His sister qualifies for that since I know he doesn't want to parade around in his undies...LOL!  We got the most important things packed up in his suitcase but his suit jackets and shirts will go on hangars.  His ditty bag with his toiletries and pills will go in last of all since he uses most of that every day.  We also had to pack his shoe horn with his spare pair of good shoes since I won't be there to help him get his shoes on.  He has a problem with his left shoe mostly.  That's the side that he had the stroke on and he still has stiffness in it.

I made us chicken (roasted), mashed potatoes and gravy along with some canned corn for dinner.  The chicken was a little overdone, unfortunately, since he didn't come home directly after his church meeting.  I had used a lemon herb rub on it so the skin was tasty but the meat was drier than it should have been.  Good thing I had gravy...LOL.

The Beast went to bed early because it was so hot today.  The heat destroys him and it was over 90 degrees today.  Plus it was humid.  The high humidity gets to me, too, and I enjoy the heat.  I don't have air conditioning coming into my computer room....just two fans to move the air around is all I need.  One is the overhead fan, the other is an exhaust fan in the window.  But it sure made me sleepy...LOL.  Until it started cooling down after dark, I didn't really feel awake.  I will still be able to sleep, however, since the Beast has the window unit running in our bedroom.  It's almost midnight here and it's still 75 degrees outside.  That feels good, tho'.

Love you all.  I hope you had a great weekend and an even better week.  ***Hugs***

WHAT A DAY!

The Princess, Gunner and Chewlee came by the house today after being down at the lake.  Chewlee was still soaked since I think she went into the water in her clothes.  At one point, she wrapped herself in a blanket because she was cold.

The Beast got a cute picture of her holding Gunner.  It looks like he is wailing but he was actually yawning since he had been asleep...LOL.  Chewlee actually has this happy look on her face like she is enjoying being a big sister.

She brought in a handful of feathers she had collected that had to have been on the ground.  All different sizes of them.  Do birds pull out their own feathers?  Or do they lose them when they fight over who knows what?

I found out that Mustachio never did let Tara know he was coming down after all and we hoped for a family type picnic.  I found out the Princess is planning on a barbeque at her house and going down to the lake later in the day.  I need to talk to Mustachio and have him get hold of Tara so she will join us at the Princess' house.  There are things for Chance to play on there so it shouldn't be a tough decision for her to join us.  I will make potato salad and some fruit salad for us all and bring hot dogs and hamburgers.  If Marcus and family join us, the more, the merrier.  We can then head down to the lake to cool down and meet up with the Princess later in the day.  Gunner is too young to spend the day in the heat and sun.

The Beast started to get his clothes ready for Atlanta and will start packing things up today.  Thursday will be upon us in no time at all.  Tuesday will be a wasted day and, possibly, a lot of Wednesday, too.  If things go like they did the last time, it should all be fine, however.  He will more than likely leave early for Atlanta, depending on when his sister will get in.  Mustachio will more than likely get in here in the early afternoon.   That gives us plenty of time to go to the store for the things I need to get.

After folding some things for the Beast that he had washed, I started making myself a list for the store.  I don't want to forget anything and have to make more than one trip.  I also want to make sure we get some beverages for us.  I am making a list and checking it twice...LOL!

Well, it was another hot, muggy day.  No rain so far although the weather channel says some possible thunderstorms later.  Ah, well!  I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.  Love you all.  ***Hugs***

Bad Weather Problems

We've had some really bad weather every night and it always seems to hit right around the time I decide to do my blog.  It affects my TV, too.  That's the bad part of having satellite TV and internet.  At least it has to really be pouring to affect it but it's still a pain in the ass.

As I write this, it is pouring out and my TV is having a ball either losing signal or cracking up into pixels all over the place.  Sometimes it's funny.  Other times, it is just annoying.

We've been having a really bad tiny (sweet) ant problem.  At first, it was just on the one counter in the kitchen.  It's gotten worse over the past month, however.  Since we actually pay a pest control company, the Beast has gotten really upset over it.  He told the guy that comes here to spray about it and he just says *I'll let the office know.*  His explanation was that they don't usually carry the ant solution with them in general.  We found out today that it's not true.  I finally called and issured an ultimatum to either get out here and take care of it or we were going to cancel.  The supervisor was here in less than 15 minutes and he sprayed plus he's sending out our guy on Monday to do a  more thorough spraying.  The supervisor hit the *hot spots*.  Not that it calmed the Beast down much but he was angry since the ant problem was the reason we signed on in the first place.

This year is the worst we've seen it.  It may be because we've had more rain than normal.  Who knows?  I just know that I never had them before in my computer room but I sure had an invasion the other day.  The weird thing is that we couldn't figure out what the hell was attracting them.  It's not like I have food in my garbage can, nor anything sweet.  I use Equal and the ants aren't attracted to that.  I DO throw my packets in my garbage can but, like I said, the ants don't seem to like that.  I have no choice, being a diabetic.  I don't use sugar.  I eat my meals in here most of the time but all dishes and anything I don't eat goes out in the kitchen.  So why I had these ants that didn't really seem to be going anywhere was a real puzzle.  Just a hunting expedition?

Well, I go into the hospital for an arteriogram next Tuesday.  I wouldn't have to stay longer than the six hours on my back afterward (because of the anesthetic used) if he didn't have to do anything other than explore the condition of my arteries but, as I said, we both expect he will have to do some roto-rooting in that leg.  This time I go to the north hospital (the same one that Gunner was born in) because he could get me in earlier than if I went to the south one.   I'm anxious to get it over and done with so I said it was okay with me.  I know the nurses at South better but, hey, I want it over and done with.  He thinks the stent is clogging once  again but I think the problem is lower than that.  I could be wrong but I know where the pain is centered when I am too active.

I love when they say things like *Eat a light breakfast but nothing after 8am.*  I don't go into the hospital, first for testing and the procedure after that, until 1pm.  Now, I don't know about YOU but I get very thirsty.  Diabetics get dehydrated easily so I am caught between a rock and a hard place.  I'm going to have to do the crushed ice thing because the Plavix I take gives me dry mouth.  I've done it before without it causing a problem so I'm not worried there.  But, this way I will be home on Wednesday and it won't cause a problem for the Beast going to Atlanta on Thursday because the procedure doesn't make me need any special care.  I'm able to get around just fine.

Mustachio should be here on Thursday afternoon.  I will have to go to Walmart with him to get what I need to make my potato salad for our picnic on Friday.  Without the Beast here, it should be fun.  But I won't be posting on Tuesday evening...just FYI.

Love you all.  Hope you are having some nice weather for your weekend.  At least our storms are at night for the most part...LOL!  I'll take it!  Be good but have some fun.  ***Hugs***

About My Birthday *Celebration*

As I mentioned earlier, I had to go to the hospital for some tests on my legs.  I knew there was some kind of blockage in my left leg and, sure enough, I knew by the girl's faces (the ones conducting the test) that they were worried.  Instead of just letting me go home when they were done, they had me wait.  I knew they were talking to my doctor.....that's how worried they were.

When they came out to tell me the doctor wanted me to go to his office right then, I knew he was going to check the pulse again (he did...with a dopler detector) but he (and I) both heard a faint pulse.  I told him his face had given him away two weeks ago when I saw him last and he decided I needed to take these tests today.

End result?  Some *pictures* and then probably a roto-rooting again.  I was a bit bummed out even though I expected this so I stopped at WalMart for some wine to celebrate my birthday.  When I got home, I told the Beast what had been found and what the doctor expected.  His nurse will make the appt. for the pictures (probably a sonagram) and then we will schedule the  surgery when the blockage is found.

The Beast actually wished me a Happy Birthday, which shocked me since he doesn't celebrate them.  However, he was actually the fourth person who did that.  The first was my friend, Carol, who sent me a beautiful flower arrangement.  It really IS gorgeous and has some flowers I have seen before but have no clue as to their name.  I hope they last because they are just so pretty.

The second was my son, Mustachio.  We were talking on the internet and, when my friend popped up to sing *Happy Birthday* to me, my son then looked at the time and said it to me.  This morning, my son, Marcus, called.  I had to call him back because I couldn't answer the phone while I was undergoing my testing.

I put my wine in the fridge to chill and I will open it a little later to toast myself a Happy Birthday while it's storming outside  Love you all.  Have a great day!  ***Hugs***

It's My Birthday And I'll Cry If I Want To.....

If you remember that song, you are in or around my age group. The real title is *It's my party and I'll cry if I want to...but today IS my birthday.  I'm the ripe old age of 68....LOL.   I guess I am a bit depressed because I am not in Chicago, getting ready to meet up with my girlfriends from high school.  I couldn't go this year for two reasons.  One, I have to be at the hospital in a little while for tests on my left leg.  I suspect I may have another blockage in one of the arteries in my left leg that is going to have to be *cleaned out* (or roto-rooted, as I call it).  The reason?  Let's just say it pains me when I walk short distances.  I mean pain to the point that I have to give the knee area a deep massage at the back to stop the pain.  I had a hunch by the look on the doctor's face when he checked that leg for a pulse down around my toes.  It was strong for a while (and I could walk longer without all the pain) but the look on his face told me he didn't like what he was feeling.

The pulse was nice and strong and made him smile after my last surgery on that leg.  *Sigh*.  Oh well.  We shall see next week when I have to go in to see him.

I am toying with the idea of going up to Mustachio's for when he has to have his surgery to give him a hand (so-to-speak) .  He was talking about hiring a driver to get him to the hospital and back since the hospital's insist you cannot drive yourself.  Since his surgery will be on his left wrist, it makes sense that he shouldn't, anyway.  The first couple of days are the worst and I can at least make him food and see that he is comfortable.  The Beast can manage that long without me, I know.  He's pretty much become very domestic these past couple of years while I have had to have all my surgeries.

The second reason is that I cannot fly on the orders of my eye doctor.  I mean the retina specialist.  I guess that is going to have to have surgery also.  The retina is not better and, actually, seems to have deteriorated enough to concern him (and me, both).  For someone who does not FEEL old, my body sure is taking a beating.

I had Chewlee here for an overnighter on Tuesday.  Gunner had to go to the pediatrician so the Princess dropped her off here.  It was a nice afternoon and a fun night with her.  She had packed her own suitcase and actually did a nice job of it.  It had all her essentials....a pair of underwear, her pajamas, her blankie, the lady bug light she needs when it's bedtime, a couple stuffed animals and some new plastic animals she wanted to show me.  She didn't bring any new clothes to change into because she knew I had some here for her.

That evening, she built herself a kind of fort in my computer room (something I had to climb over and around to get in and out of my chair....not easy, either).  It consisted of her suitcase, several pillows that formed the walls, a blanket on the bottom and a spread that had been folded up from my bed as her cover.  Can you guess her plans?  LOL!  Yes, she used it as her *bed*.  It was cute how she played with her stuffed animals and watched the cartoons on TV, too.  I just let her play.

When she woke up, in the morning, she had strawberries for breakfast then went outside to ride her bike around the neighborhood for a bit.  She took a ride over to Lowe's with the Beast and later took the ride on the scooter with the Beast to exercise Baron.  When she was ready, I took her home and got my baby fix.  The baby was crying, in his little swing thing and obviously hungry since he was sucking on his fist.  The Princess was in the kitchen, trying to finish getting dinner ready since it was almost time for Johnnycakes to get home.  I picked the baby up and cuddled him and he fell asleep in my arms.  It was such a wonderful feeling to cuddle a baby again.  I have always loved babies.  I almost hated to hand him over to the Princess so she could feed him.  Chewlee was horrified at the thought that she might feed him in front of me.  We kidded her about it and then I left so they could eat in peace...all of them!

That was pretty much my day and it's time for me to get dressed for the hospital so ta-ta for now.  Love you all and I hope you have a great day!  ***Hugs***

Poor Mustachio...

Mustachio greeted me today with *Hey, some good news!  The past couple days have not been as painful as normal.  The bad news is the numbness is worse.*  All I could think was, *Ut oh..that means there's some serious damage to the nerve going on.*  But I couldn't bring that up to him.  I already know that he's thought of that because we discussed that once a few weeks back when he was having some serious pain.

It's only a couple more weeks until he has his surgery.  I believe that's on the 6th of July.  I'm just a bit puzzled by the fact that he has his pre-op so early.  However, it consisted more of paperwork than anything else.  That's sure not what MY pre-ops are like.  Sheesh!

My dryer stopped working today when the Beast was drying some clothes of his...or trying to dry them.  How it can work fine one day and not the next just floors me.  I know it happens but the Beast thinks it may be that ants are responsible for that.  They can get in through the dryer vent into the workings and just one body on the contactor that brings on the heat would do it.  Everything else is working.  It's just no heat is coming on at all.  Not even any chattering although the Beast said he thought he heard a chatter that went on then off quickly.  If the contactor is blocked, it goes off on a different type of contactor that requires it to be reset by an internal timer.  If you don't understand, don't worry about it.  The Beast always thinks I will *get it* if he goes into great detail of how it all works.  I just tried to simplify it for you.  If you still don't understand, it just means an ant could have kept the heater from coming on but he's got to pull the back of the dryer off before he can check it and he's not really in a hurry to do that.  He has plans for tomorrow with a friend so it may not be until Monday that he looks at it.

We got our house insurance bill today and I had forgotten just how much it had increased after the tornado season of 2011 when Tuscaloosa was decimated and we had no electricity here for two weeks.  It TRIPLED!  Now the Beast wants me to call and get some quotes from  other companies.  I mean, this is not a major company (it's a state licensed one) and it tripled.  That is enough to make you choke when you think about it.  So, on Monday, I will break out the phone book and start calling some of the major companies to see if we can do better than that.  All we can do is try, right?

I was going to go over to the Princess' today to see how she is doing and Gunner, of course.  But my feet were so damn tender today that  I knew I was not fit company for either man nor Beast.  I pretty much kept in my computer room and avoided any human contact.  I didn't even get online much because I knew I was a bit on the cranky side.  Of course, the Beast coming in and telling me I had knocked off the side view mirror on my car, didn't help.  It set the mood up because I didn't do any such thing.  He accused me of it because, of course!  HE didn't do it so I must have.  I told him to pound sand because I did not such thing and had no clue how it could have happened.  All I could think of was it happening at Walmart when I was there the other day.  The mirror really didn't look damaged  but it was broken at the fitting where the top section fits into the part that extends out of the body of the car.

He said it would have taken a heck of a blow but I could almost envision some big burly guy, pushing a cart banging into it because he wasn't paying attention.  And then setting it back into place like nothing happened.  I gather some of the connection isn't broken so it stays in place as long as you are not on a bumpy road.  I told the Beast that, if it happened when I was driving the car, it sure wasn't showing any vibrations at all.  I suggested we just throw some epoxy on it if it's just part of the snap-on connection that's broken.  If everything else works (like the remote adjustments), then I don't see the problem.  He said he had thought of that, too but he wants to *think about what to use*.  What's the problem?  A dab of gorilla glue would work, I'm sure.  But you can see why it pissed me off that he accused ME of breaking it.  He didn't ask, he just accused.  That's typical of him, of course.  I expect it from him but it still pisses me off when he does it.

Another incredibly hot day, of course.  More of the same tomorrow  and for the next several days.  We may, however, get some rain over the weekend (which will cool things down just a bit while adding to the humidity factor, unfortunately)  Lots of tornadoes going on all over the place, which I hate to see.  There is no such thing as preparing your home for a tornado like you can for a hurricane.  All you can do is take cover and pray.  So much destruction...so many lives ripped apart.  It's so damn sad.  Say a prayer or two for the victims and any new ones that might occur in the next few days.  I will be doing so as well.

Love you all.  ***Hugs***

Another Incredibly Hot Day...

I was alone with Baron all morning while the Beast was out preaching to people.  Yeah, he does that from time to time.  It surprised me because, when he usually does it, it's on Thursdays.  But, out he went so it was just me and Baron again.  He didn't do his usual dribbling on the floor when he went out, mostly because I made him go out every hour.  He will finish up his meds this Friday.  I hope it doesn't have any lasting effects on him and he gets over the huge amount of water he's been drinking (and all the peeing, too!).

Although he has his appetite back, he's actually not eating as much food as he used to.  He's not been eating any of his dry food and he looks like he's lost a bit of his weight.  He has been around 15 lbs overweight so it's not like he couldn't afford to lose some.

The Beast bathed him today.  It's so funny.  He carried in Baron's shampoo into the bathroom since he decided to use the tub instead of washing him outside like we usually do during the summer.  Baron suddenly jumped up and bolted out of the bedroom and hid on him.  He was finally found trying to fit tight up against the dresser in the guest room (not his usual spot to lay down in there).  It made me laugh because Baron always resists his baths but loves it once he gets started.  Today, due to the heat, he didn't even try rolling on the rugs in my computer room or the guest room.  He was damp but it had to feel good to him.  He didn't even want to go outside and roll in the grass like he sometimes does.

I really didn't blame him.  It was really, really hot outside.  The temperature was 94 when I last looked and decided not to keep checking.  That's waaaaaay too warm when the humidity is also high.  We got some thunder today but no more rain, thankfully.  I almost expected it to pour once the sun went down but it didn't.  Good thing because Baron just does not like to go out even in a light drizzle.  Since he's been peeing like a race horse each time, I knew he would probably lose control in the house so I was grateful.

Baron has to go back to the vets next week so he can check out the problem areas Baron has had and make sure everything is fine.  The Beast likes this vet much better than our old one although it seems the practice is more small dogs than ones Baron's size.  I told the Beast to have the vet clip his nails next time.  He needs to go in weekly to get his nails trimmed down to where they need to be.  He just doesn't run and play on concrete surfaces enough to self-trim them so you can hear the nails clicking on our wood floors.  That's NOT how long they should be and it's supposed to be painful to them.  If the Beast ran him three or four times a day on the street here, it might do the job but that will never happen.

I looked at our 10 day forecast for weather and it's just more hot and not much of a threat of any rain.  Oh well.  I hope the farmers have gotten enough for their crops.  I want to go to the small farmers market this weekend to buy some fresh produce.  Their prices are so reasonable there and I am hoping to pick up some strawberries and some peaches, too.  We may not be able to grow peaches on our land (we have an invasive form of mildew in our soil) but others don't have the same problem.

Nothing exciting went on here today.  I may run over to the Princess' tomorrow or on Friday, depending on how she feels.   All I plan on doing tomorrow is run to the store for a couple small items I want in the house.  How dull can a life be?  LOL!

Love you all.  Have a great day and make some plans to get together with family and friends this weekend.  Shake up your life a little!  ***Hugs***

The Beast Goes To The Botanical Garden

Today the Beast and a friend of his went to the Botanical Gardens in Huntsville.  His buddy is also a photography buff and they hoped to capture some *significant images*.  They spent 5 hours in 90+ degree heat, walking all over the place.  It's huge!  Plus, they also have a butterfly enclosure so they spent time in there, too.

He came home disappointed because he had hoped to see some exotic plants.  What he forgot is that exotic plants need a different climate than we have here.  However, when I started looking at some of the images he got, they were really amazing.  He has pictures of butterflies feeding on flowers I have never seen before.  He also got a shot of a bee, leaving a flower and you can see the pollen on it's legs!  He just has no clue what people find as beautiful or amazing.  When he printed up a few of them, he finally started to *get it* and he saw what I saw in Muthem.  Now I just need to buy some frames to hang them on my wall here in my computer room.

With the Beast gone for the day, I was here to babysit Baron.  Baron is under treatment for his skin problems and a skin infection that the medication makes him incredibly thirsty.  We actually had to put down two water bowls for him so that we didn't have to constantly refill his main water dish.

The problem with his water drinking is that he has started to dribble pee on the floor when he decides he needs to go out.  I started putting him outside every hour and that seemed to help.  I watched him outside and I was amazed at how long he stood there, peeing on the neighbors fence (it's part of our yard).  I thought he would never finish.

I mentioned his appetite was back.  Not today but I think it was the heat that got to him.  Lots of people seem to lose their appetites in high heat and why shouldn't it be the same for dogs?  Once it started to cool down a bit, then he was hungry.  I fed him and he ate it all up within a few minutes.

I didn't do much except to fold some clothes and make up the guest room.  Mustachio wants to come down on the 3rd of July (the day the Beast leaves for Atlanta) and leave on the 5th.  His idea is to have a family reunion of sorts with all my kids,my niece and her family, my grandkids and the great-grands all being together for the first time in years,  Mustachio and Marcus plan on renting one of the cabins on the river and renting a large pontoon boat so we can cruise the lake.  I just hope they aren't all rented out already for that weekend since this is a popular spot for people to come to fish and swim.  We shall see what happens.

I will make a big container of potato salad and, perhaps, some cole slaw for us.  We can make up sandwiches or grill some hotdogs and hamburgers.  It could be a nice day for us all if the weather is good.  Let us pray!

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and have great weather.  Love you all.  Be good and don't forget to use a sunscreen.  ***Hugs***

Just Had To Have A Baby *Fix*....LOL

I just HAD to have a *baby fix* today so, this afternoon, I made the trip over to the Princess' house.  When I had originally called, they were at Johnnycakes grandparents house.  They needed a baby fix, too...LOL.  At least, that's what the Princess said.  I gather today was the day she had a lot of people stop by just for that reason.

It was also the day they had a baby photography there to take some newborn pictures of Gunner.  The Princess said the woman was really talented AND patient.  She got some cute pictures of Gunner.  I can hardly wait to see them.

I had to run up to the store to pick up one of my prescriptions so I told Johnnycakes that I would call before I ran over to their house to see if they were home yet.  He had told me that they were going to be leaving his grandparents house shortly after I called.  I went and got my prescription and then called.  They were home so I headed over there for a bit.

The baby was half asleep when I got there as the Princess had been feeding him.  Johnnycakes told me she is definitely sleep deprived with getting up every two hours to feed little Gunner.  She isn't waking up because she sets an alarm...Gunner wakes up and gets her up...LOL.  He has also been awaking another member of the household....Chewlee.  At least, she is showing up when Gunner wakes up.  She says she hears him crying.  They have to send her back to bed because there really is no way for her to help out....yet!  She is unhappy that her mother is breast feeding (she says it's *disgusting*....LOL) because that means that no one else gets to feed him.  She would just LOVE to be able to hold him and feed him.  I guess it's very frustrating for her.

Chewlee went to stay the week with her paternal grandfather in Florida, which she has been dying to do ever since she got out of school.  She told me that she missed the ocean, which she thinks is *fun* although she doesn't like getting it in her mouth or eyes.  She loves to spend time with her paternal grandfather because *they do fun things together*.  He takes her fishing and even fries up the fish she catches for her.  She likes the sand crabs and seeing the life in the tidal pools.  I asked her if she had seen a small octopus yet in one of them but she hadn't.  She said she saw one at the Aquarium but would love to see one in *her* ocean.

The only problem with her going to spend the week with her paternal grandfather is that she comes back a real spoiled brat.  I know why and it's not just that he pretty much does everything she wants to do and buys her all kinds of things.  It's the fact that he takes off work JUST to spend time with her.  His whole focus is on having fun with her.  Nothing else is more important than she is for that time.  That's why she loves spending time with him.  No one else does that for her.  The time she spends with me is probably the closest she comes when she is home.  I pretty much don't do anything else (except make meals) while she is here.  We talk, she does her ballet for me, she shows me things she learned in gymnastics.  When she gets tired of being with Grandma, she goes out and rides her bike and visits with various neighbors.

She is hoping we make it to the zoo soon (and we probably will next month) and that will be a big thrill to her.  I enjoy her company (even her endless talk about nothing at all).  She tickles me with some of her opinions and she can get scary with some of her questions lately.  She reminds me of one of my other granddaughters (Sheepie) when she was young.

It was hot (86), a bit humid but a nice breeze was blowing.  I looked at the forecast and we will be getting up into the 90's (or hotter) for the next few days.  No prospect of rain until Thursday or Friday, though.  I hope whatever weather you are having is acceptable and there are no tornadoes or severe storms happening.  Love you all.  Have a great week!  ***Hugs***

Stray Thoughts For The Day...

Today was one of those days when I felt lazy and did as little as possible.  The Beast pretty much felt the same way.  It has to be because the day was overcast, warm and humid.  It was one of those lazy Southern days that you often see Southern Belles fanning themselves out on the porch of their mansion and complaining about it all being just *too much to bear*!  Of course, I'm referring to old movie characters that have no basis in reality.....except for the hot, humid weather..which is real.

I got a chance to see the pictures the Beast took of Gunner and, in listening to him, I realized how unrealistic he is about a baby.  You and I know that the cute little faces they make are fleeting.  It happens when you talk to them and they like the sound of your voice.  Or they like how  you are stroking their adorable little faces.  The Beast expects a baby...a baby not even a week old, to pose!  At Gunner's age, his main objective every day is to eat and sleep.  Being awake for any length of time is a bonus....sometimes.  With Gunner, it's a neat thing because he's not a whiney baby.  He doesn't do much in the way of crying for which I am sure everyone in the household is grateful.

It looks like Mustachio may be getting his surgery on Monday.  It's done with a local anesthetic and takes approximately 30 minutes he was told.  Say a little prayer for him if you would.  I am hoping the surgery is successful and he regains full use of his left hand (he's a leftie).  Then, after some physical therapy and strength exercises, he should be able to return to work.  He's going stir crazy and has been in constant pain.  Being in pain 24/7 means that he hasn't had a decent nights sleep in months.  It's more like a short nap, several times a day.  He's up and down all night.  I saw that when he was here, visiting.  I felt so damn bad for him.  Being in such pain all the time wears on your spirit.  He's actually done remarkably well...considering.  But, sometimes when we are talking online, I can tell he's having a tough time keeping his spirits up.  The doctor told him he only has a 50/50 chance of regaining the full use of his hand....or even getting relief from the pain.  That's a sad state of affairs, don't you think?

Baron's skin infection really looks great.  He also hasn't been scratching himself like he was doing since he's been on this medication the vet gave the Beast.  I noticed it today when I looked at the raw area....or where it had been.  The area looks healed and all the hair is growing back.  I am so glad for him.  That had to have been miserable.

I'm going to be 68 on the 26th of this month.  God but that sounds OLD!!!  I may look old but I really don't FEEL old.  Understand what I mean?   My body has betrayed me but my spirit is still young.  Worse news....I will be married 50 years.....50 YEARS!!!!...the first of August!  OMG!  No one should be married that long...LOL.  No...there will not be a big party for us.  None of my kids could afford one and no one in my family could really afford to travel here for something like that.  Maybe...just maybe...we will go out to Red Lobster for dinner.  That works for me except for the part that my companion will be the Beast.  He lacks a bit in being good company.  He only seems to want to talk about either politics or religion, neither of which really interests me at the moment.

I was thinking about the Beast and his fear of dying.  I know that's why he suddenly *found* religion once more.  He's really afraid that there might actually BE a God and he needs forgiveness for many things.  I won't go into them because it's now water over the dam for us but I know that he's afraid he might not actually be forgiven for them.....if there IS a God.  I know that he has had many doubts over the years, for normal reasons.  I have never doubted there is a God.  How interested He really is in our daily lives I am not sure of but I have tried hard to be a good person and I always did the best I could under some trying circumstances.  I know He sometimes answers our prayers....maybe not in the way we want but He does, sometimes.  We just have to be able to recognize it.  And, sometimes, He says NO.  We have to accept that also.

I am not going to be able to make my annual trip up to Chicago this year.  It looks like I may have to have some surgery on my left eye.  The one that has had the retina  problem.  It is starting to get some changes the doctor told me to watch for.  At first, the idea of the surgery scared the hell out of me until the doctor told me just how it's done.  As long as the eye stays where it is, I can handle it....LOL!  The bad thing is that it will have to be done up in Huntsville.  That's not exactly an place where I can expect any real company.  It's a long ride.

Well, it's late and I want to get this posted and get some sleep.  Love you all.  Hope you are having a great weekend.  ***Hugs***

One Day, Maybe....

I keep thinking that I should be doing this blog at a regular time every day.  That might actually help me not to forget to post on those odds days that happens.  If I ever got into some kind of regular bedtime schedule...maybe...just maybe...that would happen.  But don't hold your breath!

The Princess got some floral arrangements today, courtesy of my friend out in California.  I swear she is forging some special kind of relationship with florists in this area.  But I was shocked and surprised to find out that three...yes, three...arrangements were delivered.  One was for the baby, you would have to say...it is gorgeous!  It has a sailboat on it that says...Ahoy!  Then, right next to it, a sign says...It's a boy!  Too cute!  There was another lovely arrangement that was for the Princess and Johnnycakes....and even one for Chewlee!  I tell you, that woman knows how to make the rest of us look like pikers...LOL.

I wanted to go over today to get a baby fix but had some much wash that needed to be done, I just couldn't go.  The Beast had gone over earlier to take a few pictures of the baby but he wasn't happy with them even before he looked at them.  He said the light just wasn't good and the flash bothered the baby too much.  But I saw one of the pictures he took and didn't think it was bad at all.  He's his own worse critic at times.

I managed to get all my wash done, even got it all hung up, folded and put away.  I made us dinner...enchiladas, Spanish rice and refried beans.  Not bad at all.  Not my best effort because the enchiladas were cheese and I didn't really put enough in them.  But it was tasty and it worked for us.  The Beast was happy because he had been out mowing the lawn and just plain wasn't up to even making himself a grilled cheese sandwich (which he had said he was going to until I said I had already planned on something).  He immediately relaxed and was happy.

Baron has been on his medication for the infection for three days and what an improvement in just that short a time!  His appetite is back and, when the Beast took him out for his run, Baron did NOT run into the woods at all.  We suspect that is the source of the skin problems with the tall weeds back there and lord only knows what other nasty things there might be.  But he really had no desire to run in there even tho' that is usually where he poops.  The Beast tried to keep Baron on the vacant lots for that so none of our neighbors would complain.  His nose in now cold and wet and he isn't laying around all the time.  He's started playing with his toys again...LOL.  That is always a funny sight.  He wants the Beast to throw the toys but won't give them back once he retrieves them.  I really think he wants the Beast to chase him around to try to get it from him.  LOL!  Good luck with that!

It was hot, of course, and although the clouds got thick and dark (and interfered with my internet connection), we didn't get any rain to speak of.  Oh, it sprinkled a teeny bit but stopped almost as quickly as it started.  That was the extent of the much expected downpour they predicted.

Okay...it's time for me to get back to bed now so I will say goodnight and get this posted.  Love you all and have a great weekend.  ***Hugs***

Shopping Day....

The Beast decided it was shopping day today, which meant he went out to buy stuff like bread, some more TV dinners for the freezer, lots of meats that went right into the freezer (no more food poisoning like he now fears...LOL) and some boxed dinner helpers.  I would kill for a good pork roast made Hawaiian style but he just said..*Have you priced a decent pork roast lately?*  I know they are expensive (what meat isn't?) but we can get several meals out of one so what's his  problem?  To him, a pork roast is only for making pulled pork, which I can do without.  He would make it every week if he could.  I thank God that he doesn't though.

I helped put everything away with just a bit of bantering about his choices (joking, mostly).  My feet were really bothering me today (the neuropathy gets better and worse as it pleases).  I wish my medication for it worked better.

I told you my toe has healed, right?  Finally!  Now I really, really make sure I have either slippers or shoes on my feet so there are no further problems.  The doctor said not to have shoes (or slippers) that allow my feet to slide back and forth.  Duh!  Like I couldn't figure that out myself.  That's how heel blisters form, too and I really HATE those.  I haven't had any for years but I remember how they hurt.  Not for me, tyvm!

I should have done some wash today but I just couldn't get up the energy for it.  I'll take care of that tomorrow.  I want to visit at the Princess' for a bit if I can, too.  I need a baby fix...LOL!

The weather started off fairly cool but warmed up considerably this afternoon.  Got some bad news about Dennis today.  He's got blood in his urine so he's headed to the urologist again.  He was just checked about a week and a half ago but, since he is operating on one kidney now (the other kidney was cancerous and removed), it can't be ignored.  It might be his medication but it has to be checked out.

Love you all.  I wish you a fantastic weekend.  ***Hugs***

Just A Nice Day ....

Chewlee decided she wanted to wait to be able to see her new baby brother until he and the Princess come home on Wednesday.  She spent the morning picking the cherries she could reach off the one cherry tree that had loads of cherries on it.  Like I said, they are small but sweet.  She found a container and put all the cherries (she hadn't eaten) in it as a gift for the Princess.  She told me she would bring my container back...LOL!

Of course, part of the reason we just couldn't get ready to go to the hospital was we had a 7 hour power failure.  When I finally got hold of a real person at the power company, she said the lightning had hit a main feeder line and split it in two!  Plus there were trees and branches down that made repairs tough.  But they did get our electricity back a couple hours sooner than the estimated time, much to the Beast's relief.  We were running the fridge and freezer off the generator and a lamp or two plus our computers off the solar batteries.  The Beast's big concern was being able to watch the Miami Heat game...LOL!

We have some pretty yellow daffodils in the flower box out front and the Beast told Chewlee she could have some to take to her mother tomorrow.  We will cut them before she goes home.  Oh...I have to tell you...my orchid bloomed!  It was a Mother's Day gift from the Princess and Chewlee two years ago.  It did nothing last year but this year there are two orchids open and three more buds.  Of course, I spent about an hour cleaning it up a few months back and I have kept the *soil* moist.  They are so pretty.  The Beast was shocked.  He wanted to throw it out but I wouldn't let him.  I had a *way* with orchids in Florida but I had more places I could keep them with indirect sunlight.  This house doesn't have it.  Heck, we have very few windows even.  So I am proud of my orchid plant.  It isn't easy to keep it so that it blooms for you.

The Princess and Johnnycakes had a special *family* dinner tonight, courtesy of the hospital.  I know she said something about a steak dinner (some hospitals also serve wine to the new family).  I don't know if this hospital goes that far but I thought that was a sweet thing to do.

The poor baby was circumcised today and wasn't nursing.  He nursed well yesterday so they know he knows how to do it.  He got the colostrum he needed and the nurses told the Princess that the behavior was normal.  I'm sure he nursed this evening.  If he gets hungry, he's right there in her room so that wouldn't be a problem.

Chewlee built herself a kind of fortress in my computer room tonight.  The *walls* are pillows standing up.  She has one blanket to lay on and another two (different weights) to put over her if/when she gets cold.  Usually it's her arms that get cold and she pulls one over her arms and chest.  She says her legs stay warm.  I've seen her almost wake up and cover up completely when she gets cold so I don't worry about her that way.  She has four stuffed animals along the short *wall* she built for them to lay on.  It makes it easier for her to leave her fort to go to the bathroom...LOL!  It's cute.  She is sound asleep and looks like a little angel.

She told me tonight that her mother never does anything fun with her.  When I brought up the canoeing trips they take, she said that wasn't on the lake but on the river and she didn't really like the river.  She only gets like this after spending a day or two with her paternal grandfather.  He rents a room at a local hotel and lets her swim all day, takes her shopping for goodies and out to eat.  She said her mother only tells her to clean up her room.  I told her that if she kept her room clean all the time, her mother might actually have time to do things with her.  She just gave me a look that said I was clueless.  When I said her mother's job was to train her for when she got older and might actually have a place of her own, she said there was no training...just a demand that she *get in her room and clean it up*.    Kids!

Chewlee wants to go to the zoo with me.  The Beast wants to make the trip to Birmingham and see what the zoo there is like.  I still can't spend a day on my feet, which really annoys me.  I should be able to walk around a zoo but I fear I might actually need to rent a wheelchair if I want to see the whole thing.  We shall see.  I do better if I take my cane with me.  That helps a lot for some reason.  I just hate to depend on it.  Oh well!  C'est la vie!

The Princess should be released from the hospital around noon tomorrow.  I think they will be picking Chewlee up on their way home.  If not, I will drive her so that I can have the chance to hold the baby again for a bit.

We have a couple more days of rain and thunderstorms ahead of us.  That always means we lose both our computers AND television.  Sigh!  That's the downside of both being provided via satellite.  But it's warm, thankfully.  Chewlee went out to pick some strawberries and couldn't find any!  Our damn raccoons wiped them out.  They left the green blackberries, of course, since they only eat ripe fruit.  I told the Beast that I was sorry we couldn't leave Baron out at night.  He hates raccoons and has chased them out of our yard several times.  But they are smart and know when to hit the plants and not have to worry about him.

Speaking of Baron....he's going in to a new vet tomorrow.  The Beast has little faith in our old one for several reasons.  He likes the new vet and we think Baron might be ill.  He's been off his food and either is laying around all the time or wants to be in the Beast's lap.   His behavior just isn't normal and he doesn't even get excited any more when the Beast takes him out for his run (using the motor scooter).  We are very worried about him.  I will let you know if the new vet finds anything.  I told the Beast to ask about the skin problem while he's there, too.  The ointment and spray we got from the old vet doesn't seem to be helping at all.

I think Baron was the only really big dog she ever took care of and that she really isn't all the familiar with dobermans.  We'll see how the new one reacts when she gets to actually meet Baron.  Baron is NOT the average doberman.  He seems almost twice the size of many.

Love you all.  Hope your week is going well and you have a great *Hump Day*.  ****Hugs****

It's An Adorable Baby Boy....

Little Gunner came into the world today at 6:54pm (apx.).  He weighs 8lbs.2oz and is 21-1/2 in. long.  I don't think I have seen a prouder father than Johnnycakes who stayed with the Princess thru the whole ordeal.  How much of that the Princess wants to share is up to her but she looked good and said she felt great afterward.

We got to see Gunner on his way to the nursery proper for all the normal things...official weight, length, etc. as well as his official footprints and then his bath and time in the warming bassinet.  Chewlee was, indeed, the third family member to get to see the baby.  She was underwhelmed by him at first and her only comment was *OOOOO....he's got blood on him!*  The nurse explained that they were on their way to give him his bath so we went to see the Princess and wait for that to be done.

Johnnycakes was holding the baby one his way to the nursery and stayed with him throughout the whole thing.  I saw him through the nursery window, just staring at the baby and touching him lightly on his face or his little hands and talking to him.  It was very touching to watch.

The Princess said Gunner was born with his eyes open and just staring at the world around him and at the faces looking at him.  How much he could really see, however, is anyone's guess.  Mostly just shadows, I'm sure, although the room was dimly lit.

Johnnycakes sister and dad were there shortly after Chewlee and I arrived and they were as happy as I was.  I have been a grandmother, though, and this was the first grandchild for Johnnycake's father.  He could hardly tear himself away from the nursery window.  Chewlee seemed to get more and more excited as time went on and she was antsy, waiting for the cleaned up baby to be brought in so she could hold him.  When he was finally placed in her arms, after she was sitting in a chair, she looked down at him and said, *He's littler than I thought he would be!*  She sounded so amazed although I had told her that he would seem like one of her baby dolls.  She had to see it to believe it, I guess.

On our way home from the hospital (it was late before we left) but Tara, Johnnycakes family, the Princess and Johnnycakes were there still oooh-ing, aaah-ing and taking turns holding Gunner when we left, Chewlee had this to say:  *Can we go to the hospital tomorrow to see my baby brother, Grandma?*  LOL!  Talk about a turnaround.  She doesn't want to go until she picks more cherries off our trees, though.  Yes, we really have cherries on two of our trees but they are small, albeit sweet.  They are also perfectly ripe.  Chewlee picked around 70 of them before we left for the hospital but she barely touched the ones on the other tree yet.  She REALLY wants to pick them first and the Beast said to let her.

I just find it cute that Chewlee now likes the idea of having a baby brother.  Only time will tell how long that continues but, for now, it works for everyone.

It's storming outside right now (of course!) and Chewlee and I are heading for bed shortly.  We are both tired.

Love you all.  Enjoy your day.  ***Hugs***

Memories....

I have a young (37 yr old) online friend that I have been playing games with for over a year now.  It's been fairly casual but today she wanted to chat with me.  She has a  mother that is ill and she just wanted someone to listen to her fears.  Her mother has breathing problems and has to sleep with a special mask on that I am familiar with but won't go into how here.  Her mother is just 56 years old and it threw me back on my memory of my own mother at 56.  She got sick in July and was dead in September.

Although we had hoped for better results of all the tests she went through, I know all of us 7 kids went through our own kinds of hell when she died on us.  She was too young and we were all becoming such good friends with her at that time.

As I listened (read) what she was saying, I realized that she was feeling the same kind of things I had when my mother was ... lets face it...she was dying.  My mother wasn't afraid of dying.  She was afraid of being kept alive on machines.  She told me her mother has the same fear and is not afraid of dying either.  It made the hair on my arms stand up when she was telling me.

I actually started crying, partly for my loss and the loss of my siblings, and partly for her fears.  I tried to comfort her as much as I could.  Know what she found the most uplifting thing I told her?  I told her to always end her conversations with ANYONE she cared about with *I love you* or at least *Love you* so that you would always know, if it should happen to be the last conversation you ever have with them, that it was the last and most loving thing you could say to them.  She had never heard that nor thought of that.  She said I had lightened her heart.  That made me feel good, knowing I had done something positive but I still cried for a while afterward.  However, I think we all need a good cry, every once in a while, anyway.  LOL!  It's why we watch sad movies.  Afterward, our hearts are a bit lighter.

Chewlee is here and the Princess is finally in the hospital.  She tore into me for telling everyone that she had been in the hospital the other day due to cramping.  Since she didn't stay, she hadn't planned on telling anyone but me...I have a big mouth.  Oh?  Like we all aren't just waiting with bated breaths for this baby to come?  Sheesh!

Anyway, once she has delivered the baby and he is all cleaned up, she will call so I can bring Chewlee up to see her baby brother.  SHE has to see him before I am allowed, I was told.  I understand the reason why (since Chewlee really wanted a baby sister) and she has to feel like she is still an important part of their family.  Chewlee has plans for me and her AFTER we are done at the hospital since she now knows her mother has to stay in the hospital Monday and Tuesday nights so she won't go home until Wednesday.  She started telling me what we were going to do afterward and she made me laugh.  She wants us to make REAL strawberry milk with real strawberries.  She can be so strange sometimes.  I had offered to buy some strawberry milk for her but it wasn't what she wanted.  So, all it requires is the blender, some REAL strawberries, milk and a bit of sugar.  I would use honey but we are out of it, I think and I don't feel like walking all over the store to find it.  They keep moving so much of the stuff to different places.

Love you all.  Hope you have a great week and good weather ahead.  Looks like we are due for rain through Thursday.  I just hope it's not all day, each day.  ***Hugs***

Guess I Wasn't Listening...LOL

Today I had to wrap the gift the Beast had bought for the couple that is getting married.  For some reason (I guess I wasn't listening well enough), I thought they were getting married today.  But it was the wedding shower.  Duh!

The gift paper I had (a new roll) wasn't really large enough to wrap the entire gift.  I fudged it as much as I could and it was mostly covered...just a little bit on the bottom.  I only had the one roll of that color so I had no real choice.  But it looked just fine once the Beast got the bows for it.  His card was hilarious and I'm sorry I didn't think to write down what it said but that was a hit at the shower and got  passed around.  It was so...*him*!  Nothing mushy....but it was funny and cute.

He said the Ninja slow cooker/roaster/whatever was a huge hit.  Once they learn how to use it, they will find they can use it more than any other appliance.  He said they got a lot of nice towels, a really beautiful dinnerware set and silverware but he didn't notice any pots and pans.  I was told they also got blankets and linens but the Beast didn't see them because he was talking to some of the men there.  Men don't really seem to care about those things.  They feel it's more a *woman* thing.  Of course it is!

I can't stay online for long now.  We are under a severe thunderstorm alert.  If we have one, it's going to probably carry the worry about tornadoes due to the heat so I have the weather channel on for as long as the TV lasts.  It sounds like the storm is approaching so I will post this while I can.

Love you all.  Hope you are having a good weekend.  ***Hugs***

Is There Anything Better Than A Good Night's Sleep?

I didn't sleep well on Thursday night and had to go to the Wound Center on Friday.  I went, feeling sleep deprived, but got good news.  I am discharged from the Wound Center!!  The toe is healed but I was given a warning.  The skin is like a baby's bottom and needs some tender care for a while.  I have to inspect it daily and make sure there are no pressure bubbles that form or any ruptures.   In a few weeks, it should be strong enough but...I have to take care with my shoes.  They need good padding (like the Earth shoes I love) or I need to get some inserts like Dr. Scholl's.

He approves my Earth sandals because of all the straps that are on them.  The straps make sure that I don't rub back and forth or front to back.  I told him if I saw any of that, I would pad the toe with a bandage like I used for the wound, if necessary.  He laughed but said it would work.

I came home and had a bunch of things that needed doing even though all I wanted to do was sleep.  The Beast finally told me to go take a nap.  I tried.  I really did but the Beast was noisy and a couple times he needed my help so I had to get up and give him a hand.  Nothing major, just things that he was trying to do and I kept him from hurting himself.

Then a package came.  It was a complete mystery to us.  Turns out it was 2 packs containing 6 different *flavors* of English muffins.  The note included said, *Something to enjoy with your Kauai.  Love and hugs, Carol*.  The muffins are Cinnamon raisin, Cheddar Cheese, Blueberry, Cherry Supreme, and a few others I can't remember right at this moment.  It really WAS a surprise since I had no idea she had done this.  We tried a couple of the muffins (we shared) and they were really good!  I called Carol to tell her thank you, got no answer so I figured she was either sleeping or had forgotten her cell phone.  When I finally got to her online later, I almost forgot to tell her we got her *surprise* package.  She just laughed and said to enjoy them.  She wouldn't have sent them except she knew we had gotten the freezer so we could freeze them and take out what we wanted.  The Beast laughed because he said he almost bought more muffins that day.  We had used up what we had just the day before.

After talking to Carol, I was exhausted and ready to drop.  It was early, just 10pm (that's early for me).  But I shut down my computer, turned off the light in my computer room and headed for bed.  I fell asleep in nothing flat.  I don't even remember laying there at all.  I slept like a baby.  I didn't even wake up to go to the bathroom (which is also highly unusual).  I expected to sleep for 3 hours or so and wake up.  But, when I woke up to daylight, I was a bit confused at first.  Did I just take a nap?  No, I was in my jammies so I went to bed for the night.  Woo hoo!  I slept through the night and I realized that I felt refreshed and recovered fully from my food poisoning ordeal!  What a great feeling!

I also realized that I hadn't felt this good in ages.  Of course, that could be a faulty memory but I didn't care!  I love feeling this way.  I need to do it more often...LOL!

I need to go wrap a wedding gift that the Beast needs today for the wedding of this young couple that he's seen through their courtship and, now, the wedding.  No, I am not going with him to it.  I could but I don't know the couple (they are from his church) but I will wrap the gift he went through hell to get (a long story).  I really hope they get good use of it.  It's really a useful gift and wasn't cheap, either.

Love you all.  No storms at the moment, although it was storming when I went to bed and I almost lost my internet before I said goodnight to Carol.  More storms for us for the next two days or so but right now it's sunny and clear and a temperature of just 70 degrees.  The NE section of the country is having some nice, clear, hot weather.  After their awful winter, it should be wonderful for them.

Love you all.  Have a great and fun weekend.  ***Hugs***

THE PRINCESS HAS A FALSE ALARM

I had to go pick up Chewlee this evening....during a widespread power outage.....because the Princess was cramping up and having contractions.  Poor Johnnycakes was in Gadsden at a job interview and had left his phone in the truck.  So the Princess got a girlfriend to drive her to the hospital as the doctor instructed.

Chewlee was ecstatic at the idea that she would have a sleepover here but, alas, it was not to be.  A few hours later, and with the electricity back on, they sent the Princess home.  I guess she wasn't ready yet.  I know psychologically she is ready but little Gunner isn't cooperating...LOL!

She sent some clothes with Chewlee that I was to keep here regardless.  They have the cute *Big Sister* shirt that Chewlee will wear to the hospital for her sibling visit after the baby is born.  I also have pj's and other things for her since she will be here for two nights and two days.

I did let Chewlee take a bath and we washed her hair.  I have to watch her since she doesn't always rinse well but she does love to lay there and pretend she is a mermaid.  Too funny!

When Johnnycakes and the Princess came to pick up Chewlee, she was resigned to being at home tonight.  She showed me the new Ipad her paternal grandfather bought her for her birthday.  It is filled with all the movies she loves and she had to show me all of them.  She also was playing some music she had on it and I watched her singing the words to them all.  It's so cute how quickly they catch on to the words, isn't it?  I wonder if I did that as a kid, too?  I really don't remember.

We will have to watch the Princess closely the next few days.  Looks like she might do things on her own and not have to be induced.  I'm excited about this since I will be here  and get to see the baby shortly after birth.  It's been a long time.  I remember seeing the Princess for the first time the day she was born.  She was so adorable.  I also got to see Marcus' babies, all except for Traci, the youngest.  She was a preemie and I was in the hospital for tests at the time.  But I did get to hear her first cries since I was on the phone with Marcus.  I had just finished making an afghan for her that the nurses and doctors all tried to talk me into giving them....LOL!

I missed out on James as a newborn great-grandson.  I couldn't drive at the time and the Beast isn't *into* newborns.  He wants them walking and talking...LOL.  Guess it's a man thing.  We women love babies.  At least, I do.  I adored my brothers and sisters when they were born.  I remember them all.  It's so weird at times to know these are grown people now...with families and even grandchildren of their own.

We didn't have really wild weather like other areas.  We had some very high winds for a while and I think the trees thrashing around were responsible for the power outage.  They were resetting transformers all over the place.

Better weather ahead for us now, thank goodness!  Hope it is the same for everyone.  Love you all.  ****Hugs****

Circle your calendar for Monday, June 9th.  That is the day that little Gunner will be making his appearance in the world.   That will be great-grand #3 for us.  Chewlee will be coming for a two-day (at least) sleepover on Sunday evening.  That is when the doctor is admitting the Princess and will induce labor early on Monday.

I have to call the hospital and find out what the rules are about sibling visits.  I would love for her to see her little brother as soon as she can so she feels like a part of the big event.  Of course, that includes me, too....LOL!

The Princess dropped by after her doctor's appointment to give me the news.  The Home Health nurse was here and met her for the first time, although she knew Chewlee and had seen pictures of the Princess (but not pregnant).  She thought the Princess had the most adorable pregnancy bump and, since she (my nurse) is getting married in a couple months, she has been giving thought to the idea of having kids.  She's young (around 25) and has been with her fiance for four years.  We had been talking about how expensive a wedding can be (and usually IS) even when they are paying for it themselves.  No matter how thrifty you try to be, those expenses can add up quickly.

She found it strange that the Beast and I had no special plans for our 50th Anniversary.  I told her that you have to have a man that is at least a little bit romantic.  After 50 years together (not including the years we dated), romance is not exactly something we think about very much.  I may be a romantic at heart but the Beast has never been.  It is what it is!  If I am lucky, I MAY get a lobster dinner since lobster will still be available on August 1st.  But, we shall see.

It's been hot as you-know-where (from the Beast's standpoint).  Me?  I love it!  Just ask the Princess.  She knows I am very comfortable as long as I am not standing in direct sunlight.  It's 6:30pm as I am writing this and the temperature is still at 86 degrees.  The weatherman is predicting that the rain, thunderstorms and possible tornadoes that has been moving steadily eastward from the Plains will start affecting us tomorrow.  C'est la vie!

Keep cool, dry and safe, please.  Love you all.  ***Hugs***

You'll Be Happy To Know.....

...that I seem to have recovered well enough to actually have both an appetite and no further symptoms.  I knew you would love hearing that!

I was almost...almost afraid to let the Beast make me anything until he told me what he was making for US.  Notice that he said US...and I checked.  The chicken patty was from frozen stock we have in the freezer, the bread was fresh and so was the tomato on it.  After two days of eating almost nothing, it tasted just wonderful.

I finally got around to attempting to cleaning up the mess I had made on the carpet in my computer room as well as cleaning all the other stuff that had been affected (meaning clothing, towels, etc.)  When I say I was sick, I mean I was SICK!

I put the wash thru a washing cycle twice due to my own concerns about it possibly having an odor, which is dumb, I know, but it's not like it hurt anything.   I also used hot water to make sure if there was any kind of *germ* involved that I killed it's sorry little ass!  LOL!

I am still treating myself tenderly to make sure I am fully recovered before I get any more active, although I do have a couple things I would like to do tomorrow that involves leaving the house.  I finally put together my meds for the week and realized that I am missing a couple of the OTC things I take regularly (like my probiotic for my IBS and my allergy medication).  I can't trust the Beast to get what I want exactly since both have several types and he thinks he remembers because he hates to pull out a list if there are people around or to ask the pharmacist if he can't locate it.  It's a man thing from what I have learned over the years.

Anyway, I hope I feel even better tomorrow than I do tonight so there will be no problems with my plans.  I hope you are all having good weather and are not in any of the areas affected by all the tornadoes tonight.  I am saying a special prayer for everyone in those areas that they and their loved ones are protected by God's mercy and Angel's wings.

Love you all.  Have a great Hump Day and stay safe.  ***Hugs***

SICK AS A DOG!

I woke up yesterday sick as a dog.  I mean full blown sick....vomiting, diarrhea...it was awful.  Worse, because of my IBS, I had no control over my bowel movements at all.  Now I have some cleanup on my carpet and a load of wash to do to clear the air in my computer room.  It was just awful!

I was really dehydrated so I was drinking loads of ice water AND eating ice cubes once they got small enough.  I don't know if that helped on the diarrhea at all but it did start to settle my stomach,  little by little.  I slept most of the day away, as you might imagine.

The Beast, of course, ignored me as much as he could.  His only comment was *Your room stinks!*....no shit Sherlock!  Not that I expected him to clean up after me but it would have been nice if he had at least asked if I needed anything.

I did shower at one point and put on  (another) set of pj's.  It didn't help me feel any better, unfortunately, but it made me feel better as far as cleanliness went.  But I never felt good enough to get online and stay online for any length of time at all.  I ended up in my recliner most of the time and asleep when I could manage to keep out of the bathroom.

That's why there was no blog.  Sorry.  Love you all.  Still recuperating here but better.  ***Hugs***

Chewlee's Birthday Party

Today was the day...Chewlee's birthday party.  Before it started, I ran up to Walmart to pick up a few things for us since I knew I wouldn't feel like it after the party.  Nothing serious...some tortilla chips, cereal, a new candle for in my computer room and some spray for the bathroom.  I headed for the Princess' house and made it right at 2pm when I was told the party started.

The kids were already in the slip and slide pool and it was really amazing.  The kids climbed up on one end and slide down a kind of ramp into the pool area.  They were having a ball.  It was great weather for them (around 82 degrees).  We did get a sun shower for a few minutes while we were outside but it was great fun to watch the kids having such fun.

The Princess and Johnnycakes bought Chewlee a trampoline, complete with protective net walls, that was larger than I had seen before.  I can hardly wait until Chewlee finds out she can actually do a flip inside it.  I know she will one day.  That's just how kids are.  The kids went back and forth between the pool and the trampoline.  Chewlee was really good about closing the opening once they were in it so no one could accidentally slide outside it and hit the ground.  It's about 3 feet or so off the ground.  There's no ladder or anything to help the kids get inside so it was fun watching them lever themselves up and into it.  Even the smallest of them got that part fast.  LOL!

When we went inside to eat our hot dogs and have chips and french dip, the kids could hardly wait for the cake.  While we were eating, it poured outside and there was a cool breeze.  The poor babies got cold but, as soon as the rain stopped, they were outside and on the slip and slide pool!  Kids are amazing.  I sat on the front porch for a while waiting for them to be ready to see Chewlee open her presents and one little girl came outside.  I don't think she was more than 2-1/2 or even 3.  She was a tiny thing but she wanted to come on the porch swing with me.  I picked her up and put her on the swing and made the swing go as high as I dared with her.  She had the biggest, sweetest smile on her face and even laughed.  I tickled the bottom of her feet and she giggled as she pulled her feet back and tucked them close to her.

She saw her daddy and wanted to go to where he was but I told her to check in the house first.  Her mother told her that her daddy was outside so out she went!  Chance was there and he was so cute at how he followed Chewlee from pool to trampoline.  If she did something, he wanted to do it, too.
Tara told me that she is going to have my granddaughter, Traci, for two weeks and she will be going with her to Gatlinburg before she meets up with her two kids grandparents to drop them off after their visit with her.  My son, Marcus, will be bringing her down so I hope to get to see him for a bit before he heads home.  He's taking a day off work to drive her down here but Tara will bring her home when the visit is over.  I hope to be able to meet up with them for lunch at least once or twice while she is visiting.

When it was time for Chewlee to open her gifts, she dove for Carol's present first.  The dress Carol sent her was beautiful and the Princess said she would love to have one like it.  She barely noticed the tiara but got upset when her mother tried to claim it.  Same thing with the hair band I bought for her to wear with the purple outfit I bought her.  She loved my jewelry box and the ballerina necklace that Carol bought her.  She also got excited about the lotion and liquid bathsoap I got for her.  Everyone had to smell them.  She thought the scrubbing mitt I got for her was a puppet until one of the other little girls showed her how she used it.

She got sand toys, a little girl's makeup kit, makeup brushes and nail care stuff made for young girls.  She also got this huge purple ball that Chance spent time playing with since he really wasn't interested in *girl* presents.  LOL!  Tara told me she bought Chance a trampoline this year since he is now 5.  His brothers had one and she thought he was finally old enough to have a lot of fun with it.  It was obvious he will and does.  He did pretty well in Chewlee's trampoline.

I headed home fairly early.  It looked like everyone else was going to stay for a while but I was getting a bit tired watching all the energy the kids were expending.  Tara and I spent time talking inside the house when everyone else had gone outside.  We talked about her mother, whom I miss like crazy.  I hate to talk to her because I end up being kind of homesick for Florida just because I miss her so much.  I know that sounds silly but, hey!  I'm getting older and who knows how long I have before the good Lord calls me home?  I miss her and would love to see her living closeby again.  **Sigh**  One day....one day!

One of our neighbors was having a barbeque party today and came over with hamburgers for the Beast and me.  They even included lettuce and tomatoes for them!  I thought that was really sweet.  When the Beast went over to thank them, he came home with a plate of cold, cut up watermelon.  He tried to hide that from me but I caught him and helped myself.  LOL!

More warm weather tomorrow and little rain, I hope.  Hope you have clear weather for the week ahead.  Love you all!  ****Hugs****
