The Cardinals And Mourning Doves Are Back.....

I gather the Beast woke up early this morning because, when I got up shortly after 9, his camera and tripod were up and focused on the bird feeders once again.  The Beast happily informed me that the cardinals and mourning doves were back feeding.  However, since he had put up the camera, none of them had returned.  So all he had was the different wren-sized birds showing up.  He finally gave up around 11am and put all his equipment away.  That's when I noticed cardinal female was back feeding and I laughed and told the Beast he had given up too soon.

The Beast didn't go to church again this Tuesday.  This time he says it's because he's feeling too *thick* to drive (he did a couple times during the day, however, when the pain pill was at it's strongest).  When I tried to call him on the excuse he was making, he just snapped and was very nasty.  Why can't he just admit he doesn't feel like going?  That would be too honest, I guess.

This is going to be short because nothing interesting happened the rest of the day.  I napped, off and on, so did the Beast.  My gf, Marilyn, called me to tell me about the get-together this past Saturday and that they were thinking of getting together again in September.  I told her I could probably make that one so she was happy over that.  Cee was at Tara's babysitting for a couple hours while her son, Michael, drove Tara to her doctor's office.  It seems she had a similar problem to the Beast's and she was freaking out over it because she had NOT had the same problem the night before (like the Beast had).  I haven't heard yet what the doctor told her but I am hoping Cee stops by on her way home tomorrow (call me if you read this before you leave Tara's in the morning, Sis) if she DOESN'T read this first.

Anyway, I'm tired and ready for bed now.  Love you all.  Hope your Hump Day is at least a fun one.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  It's a little known fact that mosquitoes hate basil and tansy.  Keep those plants in your yard and around your porch.  If you're not familiar with it, tansy is a pretty yellow perennial, which has been harvested for it's medicinal properties for several thousand years.  In colonial times it was used to preserve meat and keep insects away.  It's a low-maintenance flower, except for the odor, which irritates some people almost as much as the bugs.

The Beast Sees The Doctor.....

I didn't have to call the doctor since the Beast had an email regarding his appointment that he finally opened this morning that told him the time.  He managed to dress himself AND get his own shoes and socks on.  That was good because I had a bad night and couldn't get to sleep until I was exhausted.  I DID get up to use the bathroom but went back to bed almost immediately.  I remember writing my blog and going right back to sleep afterward.  When I finally woke up around 12:30pm, I called the Beast to see where he was and how he was doing.

He was waiting for his prescriptions to be filled but expected they would be ready in about 5 more minutes.  He said he had stopped at McD's to get something to eat so I just made myself some late breakfast before he got home.

When he got here and I asked him what the doctor had said, he told me the doctor didn't think it was a knee problem at all but rather a back problem!  He gave him a prescription for an anti-inflammatory drug and a pain pill plus he scheduled him for an MRI on Wednesday at the hospital.  The Beast said he was happy to take the MRI since it didn't hurt.  LOL!

He took the two drugs he'd been prescribed and pronounced himself almost pain-free in about 15 minutes.  I checked out what the pain pill was and understood immediately.  He had taken an oxycodone!  He had complained once before when he had taken one (after prostate surgery) about it making him feel *thick*.  I knew what he meant but just thought it was funny.  He said he wasn't sure if he was going to take a second one like it was prescribed but I told him to take it since it would be at bedtime and he could sleep pain-free.  I just got a *humph* from him at that but I think he DID take it.  He went to bed around 8pm mainly because it would be a painless sleep for a change I think.

He said the doctor believes he may have a pinched nerve in his lower back or else he's got some deterioration there.  That's why the MRI.  There are times I would like to have a full body MRI to find out what causes all of my aches and pains...LOL.

I told the Beast about MY bad night and he said he had heard me try to get Baron out twice last night but knew Baron had ignored me.  However, around 5am or so, he woke the Beast up to let him go outside, as the Beast knew he would.  He seems to like to wake him around that time of the morning for some reason.  Of course, the Beast thinks Baron is just being perverse but I told him I doubted he had any kind of an agenda.  He's so spoiled, why would he?

Baron knew the Beast was feeling better because, for the first time in days, once the Beast had said he was out of pain, Baron was back climbing into the Beast's lap.  All during the time the Beast had been in pain, Baron had done little other than put his front paws on his lap when he wanted some extra attention.  AND...he wouldn't put any pressure on the Beast when he did that.  He would keep his weight on his back legs.  It's amazing how much dogs can sense.

I finally got all my clothes washed, dried, hung up, folded and put away.  I usually do a week's worth at a time.  This week I also had a few blankets I wanted to get washed since they had been put away in plastic bags all  winter.  I also washed the blanket that Juli left here (for ME, she said...so I would have something of hers to remember her).  Oh sure!  Like I could ever forget.  But she takes it over if she forgets hers when she comes here for a sleepover....LOL!

I was checking out what our weather is going to be like for the next couple of days and it doesn't sound promising.  Although it will be more moderate as far as heat goes (upper 80's), we have better than 50% chance of thunderstorms, mostly in the evenings.  I don't mind those storms since you are usually done with any running around by then and settled in at home.  As long as it's just storms and nothing worse!

Time to get this posted and off to you.  Hope the hints I have been giving prove helpful and/or interesting.  Be good.  Take care.  Love you all.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  To get rid of ants for good, sprinkle cornmeal near ant hills.  They'll eat it but they can't digest it, which will cause them to die out.  Wait a couple weeks and see if your ant problem improves.

Another Bad Day For The Beast....

Sunday turned out to be another bad day for the Beast but at least there's no more bleeding.  Or he hasn't told me about any.  He started using my cane to help him walk because he's feeling very unsteady on his feet.  Like the pain he has isn't enough.  We sure don't need him taking a bad fall, too.  However, he DOES have his doctor's appointment early Monday.  We both forgot what time it was since his little note I gave him disappeared.  He probably didn't put the little stickum on his calendar like I told him to do when I handed it to him.  So that means I must call the doctor's office as soon as it opens to find out when he's scheduled.  *Sigh*  He can't even manage that much.  Of course not.  He's a MAN.

He spent too much time walking around, that much I can tell you.  He even ran up to Kohl's to see if he could find a pair of suit pants that closely matched the pants to a good suit that he can't get his bigger butt (and waistline) into now.  I was shocked because he found a pair he said is almost a dead match but he had to leave it for alterations (the legs had to be shortened, of course.)  We didn't have the money for it available so he put it on his credit card.  They weren't cheap but at least it was UNDER $100.  Cheaper than a new suit since this one is like new.  He hasn't worn it more than twice since he bought it about 12 years ago.  It's a pre-stroke buy.

Since he has two weddings he will need to attend for people from his church, it was a good investment.  He'll be taking pictures for them even though he told them to get a professional photographer if they are smart.  He will also take pictures if they do.  I told him he has to remember the types of pictures they will need to have taken if they don't get a professional.  Cheapskates!  BUT...it IS true that the Beast was always referred to, in the contests he used to enter that included professionals, as *the photographers photographer*.  He went for perfection in every shot.  His pictures were always *perfect* in every way.  Technically and framing-wise.  I should probably make him a list.  I know he would hate to disappoint and it would be tragic for the bride and groom later on.

The Beast moaned and groaned getting up and sitting down....all day long!  Even Baron got tired of hearing it and went to lay down in the guest bedroom, out of earshot.  I kept going in and out of my computer room to check on him and even left my door slightly open so I could hear him.  I had to help him to his feet several times.  Between preparing meals, helping him and even having to damp mop the kitchen floor because he decided it was Tuesday so he took the garbage out of the container we have and managed to tear it somehow.  He got stuff all over the kitchen floor and even across the garage floor.  But I said I was NOT going to mop out there.  He could hit it with a hose.  LOL

It is supposed to be one of the colder nights we've had in a couple weeks...in the mid-50's.  I grabbed my comforter to use to put over me since the Beast only has a thin spread on the bed and it's definitely NOT very warm.  Plus he will probably have the AC on instead of just letting the house cool down normally.  Oh well.

I lost my internet for a couple hours, which is why I will probably not post this until one of my potty breaks during the night.  I'm writing it now, while I can, during what will probably be just a brief time that I DO have internet.  It's thundering off in the distance and it's so cloudy outside, there isn't a star or moon to be seen anywhere.  But there hasn't been a drop of rain.

Love you all.  I hope you all had a great night's sleep and have an even better day.  Be good.  Be careful driving.  And don't forget to smile, smile, smile!  LOL...it will confuse the heck out of everyone.  *** Hugs***

HINT:  Fertilize your garden for free by planting clover, which will help repair the soil while also providing a nice green carpeting.

Beast Now Has New Health Problem....

I kind of shared this (in a milder form) on Facebook and the Princess thought I shouldn't have shared it but it's only family and friends that check out FB.  It's a real worry for me and she should have known that, don't you think?  Anyway, after getting up a couple times last night with diarrhea, today the Beast started bleeding from *back there*.  No more of the other stuff...just the feeling that he needed to go to the bathroom but all he did was some bleeding.  At first, not too much.  Later on, quite a bit more but then it stopped for a while.  I tried to get him to go to emergency but he's decided it's from hemorrhoids (which he has never been told he has nor has he had this happen to him before).  But I did get him to agree that if it happened again to him with more than a few drops, even if it was in the middle of the night, he would wake me and I would take him to emergency.

He's scheduled to see our regular doctor on Monday afternoon and he knows he has to tell him about this even if there's nothing more that happens.  Today he has also had the pain in his right knee stop hurting him as it was for the past week and now it's his left (bad) leg that is killing him.  I had to actually help him get to his feet when he sat down several times, it was THAT bad for him.  He seems to be falling apart, right before my eyes.  He's not even going to church tomorrow because he's feeling so bad.  He knows he needs to try to rest (like I have been telling him all along but what do I know?).

Although I am really used to the idea that he thinks I am an idiot, there are times when it tries my patience to deal with him.  He is his own worst enemy.  He STILL doesn't take his medications every day like he's supposed to.  He takes only two pills a day and he thinks that's too much.  He should take all that *I* do and see what that's like!  He sure does keep his inhaler for his COPD close to him, however.  But then he doesn't have to swallow it.  Just breathe it in and he is gasping for air when that happens (and afraid) so he uses THAT.  He just doesn't seem to believe that his bp medication is not effective if he doesn't take it daily.  It's not like his inhaler...effective immediately.  It needs to be in his system all the time.  He can't just take it when he feels his blood pressure is higher than it should be.

Sometimes, the blood pressure rises just BECAUSE he isn't taking it.  But I'm an idiot.  So I told him that if he ends up having another stroke, he goes to a nursing home because I am too old to deal with that shit with him again.  He was NOT good for me and he was nice to everyone else and listened to them.  Also, if he has a stroke (or heart attack), it would be his own fault.  He knows I mean it, too.

I'm sorry if people think that's mean or heartless of me but I have put up with a lot of shit from him most of our married life.  The year that it took him to recuperate from his strokes was NOT fun for me.  He was downright ugly.  He should never have taken out his frustrations on me nor should he have hated the fact that *I* was healthy at the time.  He said some incredibly ugly things to me during that time.  When he was finally able to drive again and do most of the things he could do before (except return to work), I was GLAD!  There's nothing worse than taking care of someone who is ungrateful for all the extra effort it takes.  I only expected him to be as cheerful around me as he seemed to always be around others.  Not even cheerful...but not unpleasant.  I WILL NOT do that again for him.

When I was ill and recovering from my major surgeries, I was ALWAYS pleasant and very grateful for all he did for me during that time.  I tried NOT to be a big burden to him.  I also thanked him for all he did.  I truly WAS grateful because I didn't expect him to step up to the plate like he did.  I was really floored, truth be told.  He was never much in the way of compassionate or a caregiver in any way.  So I treated him much better than he treated me.  I even tried not to complain about the pain I was in.  I took my medications and I didn't even expect him to change bandages or anything for me.  I gritted my teeth when I had to stand and walk myself to the bathroom.  The pain was enough to make me want to scream but I didn't.  But I am woman and he is man.  'Nuff said.  Sorry to vent.  Part of it is my worry about the Beast when he isn't really worried for the same reason *I* am.  I KNOW how serious this can be.  He is just worried about ending up in the hospital when he HATES the idea.  In fact, I worry about him NOT telling me if the bleeding gets worse because of that.  He tries to tough those things out when the alternative is not an idea he wants to consider.

It was actually kind of a nice day otherwise.  Our high was only 81 and it was overcast (but no more rain).  In fact, the rain we DID get wasn't all that much the other day.  So it wasn't even humid outside...or at least it didn't feel very humid.  Whatever it was that caused that feeling, I didn't care.  Earlier in the day, we sat out on the front porch stairs while Baron trotted around sniffing and doing his thing until he was ready to come back in.

Our lily plants in the front flowerbox have had buds on it for a couple weeks now but they finally started to open up.  I told the Beast he needs to take some pictures.  They are so pretty that I know he will when he is feeling better.  I'll post them when he does.

Well, time to get this posted and try to get some sleep.  Love you all.  Be good.  Hope your Sunday is better than mine will be.  Nothing like the Beast laying around, moaning and groaning and asking me to get him this or that!  I am NOT looking forward to that at all.  *Sigh*  ***Hugs*** to you all.  Think of ME if you think YOU are having a bad day.  I'll be happy to change places with you...LOL

HINT:  Mix dried banana peels in with the soil the next time you plant something new.  You'll give it the potassium and phosphorous it needs to grow beautifully.

Birthday Lunch Was Fun.....

I met Cee at the restaurant a little after 1pm (to avoid the large lunch crowd they always have).  I got there before her so I ordered a perfect Margarita.  I've had it there before and it tastes wonderful.  We checked out the menu and placed our order (which included an appetizer with the meal).  The spinach dip was incredible and the tortilla chips were light and warm.  When our lunch came, it looked like a two-day meal....LOL.  We both had ordered shrimp and it came with fries and a veggie.  Cee got broccoli, I took the slaw.  We both took home a lot of the meal.  We finished off our lunch with an Irish coffee which neither of us had had in over  8 years.  I laughed because the last time we had one was at Bennigans in Ft Lauderdale.  *Sigh*  I miss that place.  They had the absolute BEST French onion soup.

I almost hated to go home but....we got a thunderstorm shortly after we arrived at our homes.  Lucky for us, I think.  We lost our satellite connection here and had a brief power interruption.  No TV and no internet for about a half hour.  After having such a great time with Cee, with no TV, the Beast decided to come in and tell me all about how Dennis has gone bonkers.  It seems he believes in the alien connection to human creation now.  It all had to do with a passage he read in the Bible and reading an ancient Sumarian document.  I laughed and said he would probably like the program on that kind of thinking called Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.  The Beast told me NOT to tell him about it....LOL.

I was glad when we got the TV back because he left to watch his programs on the living room TV.  He left me alone because I told him I was going to take a nap...which I did a little later.  I woke up for dinner and then got online to check out any new postings on FB.  It always takes me a couple hours to go through everything but I had looked at it early this morning before I got dressed for my lunch date.  Thank you everyone that wished me a Happy Birthday and a great day.  It was.

I guess no one has any particular problems that they would like to see if I have a hint to solve since no one has commented.  So I will just pick and choose.  I DO try to pick out something timely but I am still open to suggestions.  Let me know.

We got some bad news about the Beast's cousin, Butch.  His daughter-in-law, who is a nurse, got copies of all his records and sent them to the doctors that she works with.  They confirmed that he has brain cancer, lymph node cancer, cancer in the one lung and a few other places.  They have set him up with an appointment to ready him for chemo and radiation therapy for the brain tumors.  The doctors told him that it would be easy to zap the brain tumors but they would return.  However, they told him that when they zapped them again, they would not return.  They only hope that the chemo will rid him of the other cancers.  I don't understand why they wouldn't be removing the lymph nodes since they do that in women all the time when they have cancer in them from it spreading from breast cancer.  But what do I know?

At least his kids are all down there with him right now.  His sons flew in and his daughter drove down from her home in TN.  If I haven't mentioned it, Butch lives in Titusville, FL....which is close to Cape Canaveral or whatever they call it nowadays.  That's not too bad a drive for his daughter.  The Beast has made it a time or two.  In fact, at the end of July, he may take the trip down with his cousin, Bevie, who is Butch's sister.  She will drive here and they will leave from our house to go down there.  I told the Beast he really needs to make the trip because I doubt Butch will make it and he's been closer to the Beast than either of his own brothers have been.  If he doesn't go, I will be very angry with him.

Time to get this posted.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend.  Be careful of whatever weather you are *blessed* with and drive carefully.  Smile a lot and take the time to laugh out loud.  It's good for you.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  At PlantNative.org, you can find lists of the flowers, shrubs, trees, vines and grasses that are native to your area.  This means they'll not only be less expensive to buy, but they'll also hold up well in your garden.

Tomatoes Are Slowly, Slowly Getting Bigger.....

The Beast is really disappointed that the cardinals are not finding the new feeders very appealing.  They roost close to them but haven't been seen eating from them yet.  We're not sure why.  The big one (the barn and silo one) has the pumpkin seeds in it that they love and they can surely see them but it's the sparrows and other small birds plus the doves that are feeding.  The Beast just loved the cardinals.  I told him I am sure they will get used to the differences and start feeding again.  They DO keep returning and staring at them while the other birds are feeding.  I know they aren't afraid of the other ones.  They always acted like THEY owned the feeders...LOL.

Tomorrow is my birthday.  I don't know why I should care since it just means I am another year older....  But sister Cee is taking me to lunch to celebrate.  It's so sweet of her since I haven't gone out to eat at a REAL restaurant since my 50th Anniversary last year.  We probably wouldn't have gone then except we got a gift card from my bff, Carol.  It pretty much paid for all that we ordered.  We DID kind of pig out since we were at Red Lobster.  I won't tell you just HOW MUCH we pigged out but, Wow!  Did I enjoy that!

I've been really keeping an eye out on the tomatoes since I promised Cee some as soon as they ripened.  I know why she wants some.  It's because fresh tomatoes, ripened on the plant, taste so damn GOOD!  I knew they needed to get a bit bigger before they would ripen so I watch that, too.  I AM going to have a shitload of tomatoes so I will be able to make salsa and perhaps even have enough to can some diced tomatoes to use in my spaghetti sauce.  Yum!

They ARE a bit of a pain to can because of having to remove the skins first.  I just keep the sauce pan with boiling temperature water hot and ready.  The Princess once helped me to do that.  She loved how easily the skins slipped off after just a minute or so of being placed in the water.  That was fun to do it with her.  Cee says when I am ready to can, she will come over to help this year.  I'm looking forward to that.

Time to get this posted and head for bed.  Love you all.  Stay safe and be careful in this heat.  Stay hydrated.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  Instead of leaving your valuables where burglars can find them, hide them out in the open.  For instance, wash out an old mayonnaise jar and paint the inside of it white.  Let the paint dry and then place your money, jewelry, and other items inside.  Store it at the back of your fridge and it'll still be there even if you're burglarized.

If you have any requests for particular kind of hints you may find useful (if there are any, it will more than likely be covered in this book), let me know in the comments.  I'll look and find them and post them on here for you.

The Birds.....And The Beast...

I went over to sister Cee's house today to see the birds and the nest they built in her artificial plant.  I thought it was in artificial flowers but it was actually a hanging basket she had with a green leaf arrangement.  It's thick enough to provide good shelter and the nest was actually made from the artificial straw that those arrangements have.

The nest had high sides and I could feel the hollow area where the eggs were.  I didn't want to touch the eggs since they are usually fragile.  The bird had flown out of the nest and to a nearby tree and watched us until we returned to the apartment.  I did, after a bit, see the male return to relieve the female so she could go and catch herself something to eat.  It really was incredible but the birds are small and probably have a lot of predators they usually have to worry about.  But once they were back sitting on the nest, we didn't disturb them again.

I came home to the Beast being in a lot of pain...again.  He had taken the Ace bandage off his knee and must have been doing too much again while I was gone.  I got ready to rewrap it but he decided to take a bath first to soak the knee before putting on the liniment and letting me rewrap it for him.  I tried to tell him that he's just not going to *heal* that quickly at his age (72 in two weeks) but he never listens to me anyway.

Cee and I had a nice time just chatting about this and that and she brought me up to date on what's going on with her kids (Tara and Michael).  She's planning on making some cookies and brownies for them on Friday after we get home from our lunch date.  The grandkids are all getting together on Saturday at Michael's house for a play date since Michael bought Alyssa a blowup pool.  It should be a fun time for them.  Michael said he was going to invite Chewlee, too, and I know she and Alyssa get along well.  They like each other and that's always nice for cousins.

I took a nap before dinner, which was a mistake in some ways.  The Beast got hungry while I was asleep so my dinner was cold when I woke up.  Thank goodness for microwaves.  But I took another nap AFTER I ate my dinner, woke up and read my email, checked out the people I follow on FB and am now doing my blog before I head back to bed for the night...I hope.  I usually end up every two hours due to my bladder being the size of a postage stamp, I think....LOL.  But, on occasion, I DO sleep for six hours in a row and I am hoping for that tonight.

Love you all.  Stay cool during this hot weather.  Be kind.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  To keep your scalp naturally dandruff-free, use a little bit of lemon juice.  Mix 2 tablespoons lemon jice with 2 cups warm water and pour over your head after you rinse out your conditioner.  Let it dry in your hair and it will not only keep dandruff away, it will smell wonderful.

The Beast And The New Bird Feeders

Although the Beast is still in pain, it's slightly less pain than yesterday.  He did keep the Ace bandage on until he took his shower this evening but he was determined to go try to find a bird feeder that neither the cat nor HE could break.  Yes, the Beast was the one that actually broke the plexiglas plate on one side of his favorite feeder.  The one that he has used to take the pictures of some of the birds we have been attracting.  Figures, doesn't it?

So he hobbled over to Lowe's to see what kind of a selection they had on hand.  He found two really adorable ones.  One looks like a barn with a silo on the end.  That one holds a LOT of bird seed in it.  The first one he filled and put in place was the one that looks like a shed with windows.  They both have *caps* that lift up and are attached to the inside of the feeder so they can't get lost.  They also fit VERY snuggely (I checked).  They lift up and you fill them through those.  Even the top of the silo is filled that way.  I will try to get the Beast to take some pictures soon so I can show them to you.

The smaller one he actually made a platform that attaches to the trellis that is secured to the railing around the deck.  The cat will have to be an acrobat to even get at it to attempt to empty the seed in it.  There's no chance in hell and he can't knock it off because it's secured to the platform.  I love the one that looks like that barn complete with silo.  He filled it but hasn't decided where he's going to put it permanently .  Right now, it's secured to the railing at a lower level than the platform on the trellis.

We watched some hummingbirds feeding today.  Cute little buggers.  Including one that is very, very tiny.  I have never seen one that small before today.  Not that any of them are big but this one is probably half the size of the average hummingbird....and it's also very quick!  I am hoping to be able to get a closer look at it eventually so I can figure out if it's a baby hummingbird or a new species around here.  I doubt it's a baby since they can't have hatched yet.  It's too early.  But, I understand the smaller the egg, the quicker the hatching.  What bird lays a smaller egg than the hummingbird so what do I know?  I know the average small bird, such as sparrows, have eggs that hatch within three weeks of laying.  Larger birds have eggs that take longer.  How much longer I have no idea.  It's just something that was mentioned on a Discovery program I watched about a week ago.

I got mad at the Beast for being too active today and then having the nerve to complain about his knee and back.  He actually broke one of the elastic clips that holds the Ace bandage in place.  I had to get a couple small safety pins to put the bandage back on after his shower.  He admitted that it DID help him sleep last night so he didn't want to go to bed without it tonight.  He was in enough pain that he didn't even go to his church meeting tonight.  He now tells me that the pain seems to be coming from beneath his knee cap.  Sounds like a case of arthritis to me but we will find out on Monday....I hope.  I am almost afraid that our doctor will just refer him to a specialist instead of taking an x-ray to see what it shows.

That's all the orthopedic doctor will do.  I doubt it will take any special tests to eliminate what might be a simple problem.  Well, not SIMPLE but you know what I mean.

It got up to 96 today the last time I checked.  We usually hit our peak temperature around 3pm.  If it got hotter after that, I would be surprised.  Even though the days are longer, once the sun starts heading for the horizon, it doesn't seem to add more heat.  I'm just glad we didn't get any storms with it being that hot.  That seems to add fuel to the threat of tornadoes around here.  A bad storm and all that heat....not a good combination.  Not that it needs to be that hot.  It seems to just require that the ground has no residual cold from our winter weather.

Time to get this posted.  Love you all.  I'm heading for bed right after this.  I plan on finally going over to Cee's tomorrow to see her birds.  She is taking me to lunch on Friday for my birthday.  I haven't been out to eat at any place nicer than McD's in ages.  It will be nice and the only *present* I get for it since we know how the Beast feels about anything like that.  My kids are either broke or not working...lol.  Mustachio just paid off his car and had to pay off his IRS bill (bloodsuckers!).    I will probably get a phone call from them, however.  That's always nice to talk to them and catch up on what's going on in their lives since the last time we spoke.  I DO chat with Mustachio a couple times a week on Yahoo Instant Messenger so I pretty much know what's going on with him all the time.  LOL!

Love you all.  Enjoy your Hump Day.  Take care.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  Did you know that eggshells help rose bushes grow?  The nutrients contained in the shells are a great benefit, especially if you  crush up the eggshells and deposit them under the surgace of the soil, near the bush's roots.  The same applies to water that you've used to boil eggs in...when you're finished cooking, just dump the nutrient-enriched water (cooled, of course) on your rosebush.

Poor Beastie.....

Today was not a good day for the Beast.  His friend that we had lent our trailer to brought it back today and detached it from his truck then spent a few minutes talking to the Beast before he headed back to work.  The Beast then went to put the trailer hitch on it's stand and must have done it wrong.  He wrenched his back badly.  Then, with the way he came into the house, he aggravated his knee, which was bothering him anyway.  He took a bath to try to ease his muscles but to no avail.

I set up the heating pad on his recliner for him, put some liniment on his back and he slathered the other liniment his aunt gave him on his knee area.  But he was in severe discomfort and pain.  So I did a bit of fetch and carry for him, ran to the store for an Ace bandage for his knee (to keep it warm mostly) then made us some dinner.  I cleaned up afterward, got the dishwasher loaded and made sure the Beast was settled for bed before I retired to my computer room to catch up on FB and my email.

It was kind of funny because I guess Sheepie was on FB at the same time and, when I made a comment, within mere seconds, she was commenting back.  We went back and forth for a bit, almost like chatting.  I had just had that happen to me with the Princess.  It was the first time I had that happen.  Too funny.

Sheepie was giving me a hard time about my pajama jeans (which I loved and were very comfortable) but I have to give them up now because they are too big on me and the butt sags.  More than mine does so don't be snide...   Saggy happens to us all.  First the breasts, then the butt....sigh.  Life is NOT fair!

I have to guess that I truly AM getting healthier because my hair seems to be growing back.  It was getting very thin on me but I guess it was a symptom of all the crap that was going on with my health that I wasn't aware of.  Now that it seems to be resolved and I am trying to work on my health, including taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement, that seems to be better.  It's a real relief to me.  I was worried about having to wear a wig for the rest of my life...LOL.

It was incredibly hot today when I ran up to the store.  The inside of the car was just dreadful so I rolled down the windows.  I really don't like the AC on for short trips and it cooled the car down to a nice temp.  That's what's nice about living out in the boondocks.  You don't have stop-and-go traffic.

I picked up the Ace bandage for the Beast and a couple minor items that we also needed and headed home to make dinner after I wrapped the Beast's knee up so he wouldn't keep complaining.   He was in here a little bit ago because he had told me initially to wrap it loosely.  Guess what?  It started to become undone so this time I wrapped it tighter.  It should last him until morning now.

The weatherman says (and Weatherbug agrees) that we will be getting heat in the high 90's tomorrow.  I doubt the Beast will do anything outside even if he feels better tomorrow.  I doubt he will but you never know.  That kind of heat would put him in bed after about 10 minutes.  He really CAN'T take the heat at all any more.

I was totally shocked today when I really took a good look at both the pear trees out in front as well as our Alberta peach tree.  They are LOADED with fruit and, so far, it all looks great!  The Alberta peach tree will start having fruit ready next month.  I haven't seen the trees with this much fruit on it in a couple of years.  Amazing.  I'm really looking forward to it.  I should even have more than enough to can and even make some jam with (the peach, not the pear....LOL).  On a sad note, one of the cherry trees died on us.  No clue why but it's deader than a doornail.   The plum has almost no fruit on it for once.  It needs to grow a bit more and strengthen so I'm kind of glad.

Well, time to get this posted.  Love you all.  Be careful with all this heat.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  Instead of spraying your shower down every time you use it, try this solution for keeping your shower mildew-and grime-free.  Apply a thin layer of car wax to a completely clean shower, then buff with a soft, dry cloth.  Your cleaning job will be much easier, and you'll only have to reapply the wax once a year.  You can also perform this trick in your refrigerator to keep food stains at bay.

Strange Day Here.....

I woke up early today and stayed up until almost noon.  I lay down to take a little nap and fell asleep for two hours.  I had made some tuna salad for the Beast's lunch which he thought I didn't make when he found two unopened cans of tuna on the counter.  He saw I was asleep when he got home from church so he didn't even bother to find out and he obviously never  opened up the  fridge either.  Sheesh.  Men!

In fact, he didn't even eat any until it was almost dinner time so I didn't even make us anything else.  BUT....he decided to use the two very overripe bananas we had to make some banana bread.  The strange thing was that it was sweeter than normal and it had to be because the ripe bananas were sweeter than the ones he has been using that he considered *ripe*.

The Beast made the banana bread in the glass bread pan that we have (he doesn't usually).   You will never guess what happened?  He dropped it (after removing the banana bread, thank goodness) on our kitchen tile and it broke into about a billion pieces.  First, he swept up all the pieces he could find.  Then he gets out the hand-held vacuum with it's long snozzle and starts vacuuming the entire kitchen, inch by inch, with it.  THEN...he takes out the regular vacuum and goes over the whole area once again.  He inspects it before putting all the furniture and the garbage can back in place and putting the broom and dustpan back.  THEN...he takes out the Swiffer wet mop and cleans the floor.  Why did he go through all this?  Have you forgotten we own a dog that is his best friend?  As if all that is not bad enough, he finds a large sliver of glass in the living room that he hadn't vacuumed so the whole process starts over again...except for the Swiffer wet mop part.  Can't have Baron stepping on any glass and bleeding all over the place.  It's happened before and it's always a mess when that occurs.  But he didn't expect ME to clean it up at least.

The Princess dropped by (without any kids) to bring the Beast a few frozen, chocolate-dipped and then decorated strawberries for him.  I took one and she made a laughing comment about the fact that I took the ONLY one that had the chopped nuts decorating it.  I just laughed, too, and said I had no idea he wanted it.  He usually eats stuff like that first when he thinks that *I* might take one...LOL.

A while back, the Beast threw out my pitcher when he was *re-doing* my kitchen when I was too injured after surgery to know what he was up to.  Today, guess what he did?  No, he didn't get a pitcher like I wanted.  I wanted it for ice tea.  He buys me a glass sun tea jar.  Oh, but he does buy a huge, gallon size thing with a spout on it for ice water that I could barely squeeze into my fridge.  I'm not sure if it was sweating from having ice in it or if it might be leaking (slowly) but I have to check again tomorrow.  I cleaned it up when I discovered the water dripped down from the container to the bottom of the fridge.

I don't mind the sun tea jar because I always had one in Florida (another one of the things that disappeared on me between our house in Port Charlotte and moving into this house).  But the other container?  Tits on a bull as far as I am concerned.  Buy us some ice on occasion since our ice maker seems to have lamed out on us but we sure don't need a container for ice water.  Yet that is what he wanted.  I would just have filled it with water and let it chill down in the fridge.  But that's me.  Practical.

The Beast bought us a new Swiffer wet mop and, when I asked why, he said the auto-spray had stopped working.  It probably got clogged and you really can't get at the parts to clean it so I knew why he'd gotten it.  He was apparently taking the bottle of cleaner off it, spreading it around the floor and then mopping it up.  That is not only wasteful but it defeats the whole purpose of the mop's convenience.  There's no way you can spread that cleaner out without the sprayer as evenly and economically.  He probably should have done it much sooner because it explained to me why he was going through so many bottles of the cleaner the past couple months.

He told me that his knee seems to be getting worse.  Although the ointment he's been using does give him some temporary relief, he wakes up during the night in pain and he's also been getting deeper pain and discomfort.  So I am definitely making an appointment for him with our doctor in the morning.  Hopefully, he will take an x-ray of it to check for arthritis before he just refers him to an orthopedist.  He needs to find out why he's in pain and soon.

The Beast and I discussed what to do about the cat that has been raiding the bird feeder and emptying the bird seed all over the place.  I suggested gluing the plexiglas sides into place but he didn't want to do that because he needed to remove one of them in order to screw the feeder to the railing.  Then I suggested that we leave the spotlight on that lights up the deck damn near like daylight.  It won't bother our sleeping and won't bother the neighbors either.  It's not like we have anyone living close to us in back.  Our next door neighbor (the only one we have) leaves his on at night and we don't even notice it unless we go outside.  His lights up his deck, too.

The Beast isn't sure that would work but he says we may give it a try before he resorts to hanging the feeder back up on the shepherd's crook.  We'll see if he really does it.  Leave the spotlight on, I mean.  I really would like to try that first.

Oh, we tried some of the Kauai coffee today with the water that we are getting since the Beast changed the filter.  It was amazing!  It really IS the new filter that has made the difference in the taste of our coffee.  You wouldn't think that could make such a spectacular difference in the taste of something.  But it obviously does.

The Beast took his bath (for his knee) early today, which surprised me.  He's such a creature of habit....  AND, he also went to bed while it was still light out.  I don't think it was even 7:30pm yet.  But he sure messed ME up.  I read Facebook to catch up on everything that was posted today and went out to get more coffee.  When I discovered the pot empty, I was a bit disgusted because I didn't want to make another pot so late....but then I looked at the time and it was just going on 9pm!  LOL!  Too funny for words.  I know I will be up until around midnight so I went and made my pot of coffee.  I'm enjoying my second (or is it third?) cup now....  Oh, don't worry.  I can drink coffee until I go to bed and go right to sleep.  Been doing that for years...just ask my kids.

Oh...Cee called me to tell me something strange going on at her apartment.  Her patio/porch/terrace area has two chairs, a small table and a couple artificial plants that includes some flowers.  It seems a bird has taken up residency in one of the flower arrangements and is now nesting.  A girlfriend of Cee's had seen the two birds flying into the pot and thought they were making a nest but Cee thought they were just grabbing some of the artificial straw that was included in the arrangement.  Turns out she was wrong.  She moved the flowers apart and discovered the nest, to her amazement.  Now the mother bird is sitting in it all the time (that she notices although I am sure her mate relieves her at times so she can feed).  At first, when Cee came out outside, the bird would fly away until she went back in but now she is either used to her or she has finished laying her eggs and won't leave them at all.  I think I am going to run over to Cee's for a bit tomorrow and see if I can get a gander at the nest, if I can.  It's not every day you see birds nesting inside an artificial flower arrangement!  LOL.  But, it's definitely a safe place for the nest.  No predators are going to show up, I'm sure.

Time to get this posted now.  Love you all.  Hope your weekend went well and that all the fathers had a very nice Father's Day today.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  To keep candles from dripping, soak them in a strong salt-water solution after purchasing.  To make sure y our salt water is as strong as possible, heat up some water and add salt until it won't dissolve anymore-then you'll know the water is completely saturated.   Leave your candles in this solution for two hours, them remove and dry.

Busy Day

I finally got both hummingbird feeders up today.  I had one up but hadn't filled the second one yet.  I also went around and checked the tomato plants and got two ripe tomatoes (one decent, one on the small side).  I picked two nice size green tomatoes for our neighbor, Chrissie, who had asked for a couple.  Then I picked about a dozen or so cherry tomatoes that were ripe for our salads, which I made today to go with our soup (chicken noodle).

I made a trip to Dollar General and bought us some B12 tablets since our diets have been so crappy and, after reading about it's importance, decided we could do with some.  I only bought the 1000 mg. ones since I don't want to overdose us by accident.  I really have no idea how much of that is needed.  I found some soft pink slippers and bought those while I was there and it was a good investment.  They are warm and comfortable on my feet which usually feel cold to me.    Then I broke down and bought a small candle (layered fragrances) since I was already spending more money than we really could afford.   It was just $3.50 but seemed like a lot to spend on such a small candle.  I just hope it lasts for a while.  Especially since we don't get our SS checks until the 8th of July.  *Sigh*

I got a big surprise today.  My bff, Carol, sent me another 5# bag of Kauai coffee beans.  I was shocked because I really didn't expect it.  She's been so generous in the past but I sure didn't expect it to continue.  She is such a sweetheart.  Of course, she is the one that got us hooked on it in the first place...LOL.  She just laughed and said she was our *dealer*.

The Beast's knee is really giving him a LOT of trouble.  It's painful and was swollen today.  I'm wondering if he's developed arthritis in it.  I'm making him an appointment to see our doctor on Monday so he can find out what's up with it.  I just know something needs to be done about it.

When I was picking the cherry tomatoes, I made notice of ones that will be ready for picking in about two days.  The regular tomatoes will be a bit longer than that but there are some nice size green ones that I can hardly wait for.  The Beast watered them well tonight because they needed it.  The leaves were beginning to wilt a bit.  Not badly but enough that it was noticeable.   He waited until the sun was almost ready to set before watering so the plants should look a lot perkier tomorrow.  If not, I will give them more water while the Beast is at church.  I need to check my strawberries again, too.  There should be a few more of those babies ready to pick.

It looks like we may get a summer squash or two, also.  The Beast never cleared out that section very well and guess what is growing?  You got it!  A nice vine.  AND it has a couple flowers on it and one that is already forming into a squash.  Looks strange since it's so small...LOL.

That's about it for today.  Love you all and I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  ***Hugs***

HINT: Give dying indoor plants a second chance with this odd little treatment.  Let three empty eggshells sit overnight in a couple of cups of water.  Multiply the amounts as needed.  Then use the eggshell water the next day when it's time to water the plants.

An Unexpected Gift.....

How do you know when you are old?  Something like this tells you.  A friend of the Beast's sent over two of his employees to finish up the pressure cleaning of the outside of the house and to weed our garden.  I kid you not.  It was a most welcome surprise to us when they showed up with the friend and he told the Beast to put them to work.

They worked tirelessly.  Of course, they were both young (in their 20's) and had an energy that I could only WISH I had again.  The house is now completely pressure cleaned (the aluminum siding gets mildewed during the winter) and the garden has been thoroughly weeded.  The weed pile is huge but tomorrow the Beast will put it into the compost barrel.  The way they piled up the weeds they pulled, it will be an easy chore.

It allowed (and I think spurred on the Beast) for the lawn to be finished being cut.  The Beast didn't want to be seen as a slacker.  LOL!  He has always worried about what other people think of him and that is the primary reason he gets many things done.  It has always both amused and frustrated me about him.

The juice that the Beast has been making with the Nutribullet is not balanced.  The Beast has been using primarily fruit in it and not the veggies suggested.  It caused me to have a low blood sugar episode for some reason (I checked it with my meter and it was a shocking 60).  I thought it would have been much higher but it was a weird sensation since I haven't had one in a long time.  I ate some honey on toast to get me over the hump and then had a piece of boiled chicken since the recipes seem to encourage people to be vegetarians and that is one thing I am NOT.  It might not be so bad (the stuff the Beast has been making) if he included the nuts and veggies, too.  The nuts add protein and that's more balanced.

I AM enjoying this new coffee blend to my surprise.  I'm not sure if it's the change in water quality since the Beast changed the filter for the first time in he can't remember how long.  I think it was much longer than he was supposed to let it go.  He can be such a tightwad about the wrong things at times.  But I will enjoy it while I can.

For some reason, taking my shower today felt wonderful.  Have you ever had that feeling?  It was hot out (again)...95 when I checked around 2pm....but it's been hovering in that area for our high for almost two weeks.  The weatherman said today that we don't normally have this type of weather until about mid-July or early August.  I guess it's going to be a hot summer.   The problem with that is that means more storms for us.  I guess I am glad that we have the solar panels for electricity already installed.  Bad storms mean more power failures here.  It can also mean more tornadoes.  *Sigh*

Love you all.  Be safe.  Have a great weekend.  Be sure to use a sunscreen if you spend any time outdoors.  ***Hugs***

The New Coffee....

Today we opened up one of the packages of new coffee beans that the Beast had ordered from Amazon.  It was a Kona coffee blend and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was.  I'm telling you, at this rate, I am going to have a very hard time adjusting to regular coffee when that time comes....and I am sure it will.  But, in the meantime, at least we will enjoy this blend.  I think I was expecting it to be much stronger but the Beast said he had ordered a medium blend.  The next bag of coffee is going to be stronger he says.  Ugh!  I suppose we can get used to it.  We sure won't want to waste it.  It may even make us cut down on just how much coffee we drink in a day....LOL.  Who knows?

The Beast is about ready to set out traps or some such thing for the feral cat that haunts our deck.  He has learned how to push in the plexiglass sides of the bird feeder that he has on the railing (to facilitate taking pictures of the birds).  When the cat does that, he makes all the bird seed fall out of it and onto the floor of the deck as well as over the side of the railing.  It's a mess.  He knows it's the cat because he caught him at it this morning.  It's the second time that it's been done and now he knows who is guilty.  When I told him to hang the damn thing up like it's supposed to be, he shot me a hateful look and said that wouldn't work well for pictures.  *Sigh*

So it was sweep up the mess and refill the feeder.  Although he DID only fill it halfway instead of as full as he could.  He's going to screw the top down on it as well as the sides.  It will make it a pain to refill since he will have to unscrew the top every time but at least he won't be setting out poison or some such lethal thing for the cat.

I'm enjoying the Turner Classic Movie channel this evening.  They have some old movies on (Mothra and Them!) that I am in the middle of watching.  I'm not interested in the Wasp Woman but it IS an oldie (1960).  Them! is even older (1954) but I still like it for some reason.  It's really primitive compared to the movies they make nowadays but it brings back memories to me of seeing it at the show with my sisters at the time.  It scared the hell out of Cee at the time but she was just four then.

The Beast has already retired for the night.  He's expecting a friend to come over early to pick up a training collar for his dog.  The Beast picked one up for him today since his friend has his business to run and not much free time.  This is one of his friends from Church and I have no idea what time he opens his shop but I think it's around 8am.  Thankfully, his shop isn't all that far away from us on the main drag through our area.  He's not my friend so I can stay asleep...LOL.

It really has been hot and surprisingly humid even though we really haven't had any of the rain predicted for us.  I believe it has rained a bit further north but not here locally.  The Beast has been miserable.  I've been very comfortable, thank you very much and he really can't believe it.  But at least he doesn't give me a hard time about it.  He just shuts the doors to our bedroom and the guest room and the guest bathroom while he turns on the AC unit that cools the kitchen, dining and living areas.  Thank goodness this house is not all that big.

It's 10pm and still 80 degrees outside.  It's only supposed to go down to 70 for a low tonight which is a rather nice temperature, I think.  It will be great for sleeping.  Speaking of that, it is where I am heading shortly after I get this posted.

Love you all.  Hope you are enjoying the Hints.  Have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  Add up to 1/4 teaspoon olive oil to your cat's moist food to stave off hair balls and make his coat extra shiny.

How Exciting Would This Be????

Today, as I was reading all the Facebook sites I try to read every day, I ran across this promotion.  I love candles and that  was why I read the promo and watched the video about the woman who got the candle and found a ring that was worth $10,000!  The company is giving away hundreds of rings but not all $10,000 ones.  LOL!  Many of them are worth much less  but even the gemstone rings are beautiful.  Plus...there is a code inside the foil that you register for a chance to win a second ring that IS worth $10,000.  How cool is that?

If you are curious about the promotion, here's the link:  http://greatgiftforher.com/   I wish  you all bundles of luck.  I would love to order more candles since all mine are now pffft!  But....today we spent waaaaaay too much money for a Nutribullet and also bought a lot of fruits and veggies to help us healthwise.  It's a fantastic product (you can look it up on it's website and watch the video).  I have seen it advertised on TV and wondered why the Beast hadn't bought that instead of the juicer he did.  It wastes the fiber and therefore most of the true value of any fruits and veggies.  We read the comments and  decided to dig into what little savings we had left (we have a large bill to pay the first of the month so it was necessary).  It came with a hard cover book and many comments from people who are currently using it.  It tells of their results and some are really amazing (and encouraging).  We know our diet sucks so we hope this helps our general health.

It also tells about some additional ingredients we may want to add to our juice.  Two of them I was already familiar with and knew their value.  We checked on Amazon and found out that Amazon DOES carry all four.  As I read through the book and some of the recipes, I told the Beast we would have to adjust our buying habits and buy more veggies to add to the juices.  There's quite a variety and some would probably be healthier than a regular meal.  We are going to give it a try and see how we feel after a couple weeks.

What's funny is the first juice we made was made with celery, two apples, an orange, six cherries, 8 baby carrots and a peach.  The peach and cherries were pitted before being put into the container but they said don't do it to the apples or orange.  You add some water and blend.  It was amazing how good it was.  I wish you could have seen the Beast's face when I said * Wow!  This would be great with some vodka!*  I wasn't kidding but I laughed and said I was so he would lighten up.  But I think I am going to tell sister Cee to buy some fruits and veggies and bring an empty juice container or two and let us make her up some healthy juice that will be different and more beneficial for her.  It's full of fiber, which aids digestion and has all those good antioxidents and minerals that most of our diets lack.

Anyway, THAT is why I can't order any candles.  We are really and truly broke now until we collect our SS checks next month.  By then, the candle company will probably be out of the candles with rings anyway.  I wish you all fantastic luck if you decide to get some.  I would have them burning all over the house if the Beast wouldn't freak out....LOL.  But I can have them in my computer room where I spend most of my time anyway.  I can't yell at the Beast this time for buying the NutriBullet, either.  He asked me first and then we had to check out our finances to see if we could manage it.  We bought it at Walmart and saved $30 from the online price.  That was a little help at least.  I will not forget to tell you if it helps out.

Hot, hot, hot expected but we didn't get the thunderstorms today that were predicted.  Those will more than likely hit us either late tonight or early tomorrow from what the radar shows.  *Sigh*  I DO prefer they hit in daylight but would rather do without them anyway.

The Beast has finally...FINALLY....started actually planning on the deck extension that we both wanted a couple years back.  It will extend an additional two feet out from the house and about four feet longer than the current deck.  It may be more but only the solar panels would mess up the extension.  However, I think they start where the fence is attached to the house so it shouldn't matter if the Beast goes a bit more than four feet.  The footers will be the biggest problem but he will have Dennis help with that.  Dennis owns his own cement mixer (one of those small ones) that he has been dying to use again since he poured his own patio.  I know how OCD he can be about any project he is involved with so that makes me feel that it will be done right.  The Beast is drawing out the plans as soon as he can make all the measurements he needs.  He says he will do that this weekend and then get together with Dennis to plan out how the footings will need to be done.  Hurrah!  Hurrah!

Love you all.  I hope your week has been going well.  Say a little prayer for the people in Texas that got 8 inches of rain in just 3 hours!  I don't care what kind of soil you have, that amount of rain in so short a time period is not going to be without some BIG problems.  I'm sure the flooding is severe.  Be good.  Be careful.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  To remove wax, help prevent (or get rid of) infections, mites and bacteria from your dogs ears, mix 50% white vinegar with 50% warm (not hot) water and pour in your dogs ears before bathing him/her.  The vinegar does NOT get rid of infections by itself but it helps speed up the cure along with anything the vet has prescribed.  You can do this once a week for dogs with long ears since mites, bacteria and infections seem to thrive in their ears.  This hint is NOT from my book but from a website about animal care.  Our dog often gets mites in his ears and his ears are NOT long but tall and erect.  He IS a doberman after all.  LOL.

Baby It's Hot Outside.....

Today was our fifth day of weather in the mid-90's.  The Beast made a short effort to try mowing the front lawn but was driven inside by the heat.  He doesn't do heat well.  He also hit the front gate with the mower (it's a riding mower, remember) and bent one of the hinges.  That required a trip to Lowes and the purchase of a new hinge.  The Beast was able to prop the gate so that he could remove the broken hinge and replace it with almost not trouble.  It's a heavy gate so it wasn't as simple as you might think.  That wood is HEAVY.

But he fixed the gate and then had to come into the house and take a nap.  Between the effort of propping the gate up and replacing the bent hinge along with the heat, it took a great deal out of him.  After that, he had the energy to run to Publix to get us some Chicago Italian bread, some crispy buns and a crispy Hoagie roll.  We then had French dip for our lunch.  I made up the au jus for us and put it in two custard cups.

That was the end of the Beast's activities for the day and I picked up the slack with cleaning up the kitchen and the dining room table.  He pretty much spent the rest of the afternoon just reading from his Bible, preparing for going to church later.  He took his shower, got dressed and went to church.  When he got home, we ate some chicken noodle soup along with the Chicago Italian bread for our late dinner.  I made it when we both agreed that we weren't very hungry (heat does that to us at times).  I put all the remaining dishes, pots and silverware into the dishwasher and got it ready to go.  I told the Beast to make sure to put his coffee cup in it when he was done and turn on the dishwasher.  I then retired to my computer room to play my Jewel Quest game for a while.

I had spent a couple hours on Vegas World, working on collecting gems and hoping my friend, Carol, might be well enough to join me.  But she never showed up.  I talked with a couple of my friends on that site (ones that I have known almost two years) and caught up with some of the gossip that always seems to be going around on every site I have ever been on.  At least the ones where they have chat available that isn't limited to game chats.  Like a lobby area where you don't have to be playing a game and can chat with all your *friends* online.

I spoke briefly (on the phone) with my son, Mustachio, who was just heading for lunch at the time.  At least he is well but busy as hell.  He works hard physically and often comes home exhausted.  Poor baby falls asleep for an hour or so and then gets up to make himself some dinner before he even decides if he has the energy to get online.  I often don't get on my YIM either because I have fallen asleep after dinner or because I am playing my Jewel Quest game.  If I have my YIM up, someone trying to chat with me will knock me out of my game and that can be a disaster at times if they do it while I am in the midst of the scoring sections.  It's a timed game and I can lose a turn that way.

The Princess finally put up pictures of Gunner enjoying his birthday cake (not from the party but from his REAL birthday that they celebrated).  I just love how enthusiastic babies always are when they can just grab the cake and shovel it in the mouths (or at least, they get MOST of it IN their mouths).  Their faces and hands sure are a mess, aren't they?  ROFLMAO!  Gunner was no exception even at the party!  It was just so adorable.  I loved it.

We are expecting thunderstorms here tomorrow along with another day of heat.  I hate those kind of days because that's what drives tornadoes and we DO get those here.  I will be on edge most of the time once the storm clouds roll in.  I watch a lot of the *Tornado Alley* episodes on the Weather Channel and the storm chasers to know more about tornado formation than I really want to know.  Having once gone through a tornado that tore the roof off over us, I am not in a mood to have a return event.  I will be in Dennis and Di's safe room lickety split if the sirens go off.  Trust me!

Time to get this posted and select the *Hint for the day*.  Love you all.  I hope your have a fantastic Hump Day.  Be good.  Be safe.  Drive carefully.  ***Hugs***

HINT:  Forget expensive plant food for your house plants.  Just feed them flat club soda periodically and they should thrive.  The minerals in club soda are beneficial to plants.

Ugh! Weird Day Today....

Had a day where I could NOT keep from napping.  Woke up early today but then went back to bed after I checked out my emails.  Then woke up long enough to eat a late lunch and THAT sent me off for a nap that lasted until late in the evening.  Checked my sugar but it was fine so can't use that as an excuse.  But now I am up very, very late and not tired at all.  I just don't want to get into this being a habit.

I think part of this is the fact that I have no excuse to stay up.  I miss playing games with my bff, Carol, who has been having some bad health problems.  I worry a lot about her and miss her online.  Lately, our only contact has been through emails.  At least I hear from her that way from time to time.

I also miss talking with my sister, Bratfink, on YIM.  She's been having some serious computer problems and stopped visiting Facebook and deleted YIM since she was sure that one of them was causing her the problems.  I know that when she was on YIM, Sheldon had problems but how that could hurt him, even when they shared the same cable connection, was beyond me.  I miss her.

I do get to talk with my son, Mustachio, on YIM most of the time.  That is, if I am up (and not napping).  He's on Eastern time there in KY while I am on Central Time in Alabama (doesn't make sense to me either).  So it's always an hour later in KY when we talk and he has to get up early for work.  The other friends I talk to occasionally on YIM are not always on, either, so it gets boring to me to even have it up at times.  If it's too late at night, I don't even bother putting it up.

I've been playing my game, Jewel Quest 2, a LOT.  When I finish it, I start over under another me.  I just add numbers after my name...lol.  I've been finishing the game faster mainly because I know which character is going to need the extra help my bonus tokens will give.  I don't understand, really, why I like the damn game so much but I do.  I've tried other builds of the game on IWIN but they aren't as interesting to me.

Oh well.  Sorry this is so boring today.  My life just isn't filled with much in the way of entertainment.  BUT...I realize I forgot to include any hint in my last blog so today you get TWO.  Aren't you excited?  No?  Not yet?  Well, lets see what hints I can dig up that will change that.

Love you all.  Hope your week started off well.  ***Hugs***

HINT #1:  At PlantNative. org, you can find lists of flowers, shrubs, trees, vines, and grasses that are native to your area.  This means that they'll not only be less expensive to buy, but they'll also hold up well in your garden.

HINT#2:  For an unusual mold and mildew fighter, try vodka!  It works especially well on the caulking around your tub.  Just spray on, wait 10 minutes, and wipe clean.

I know it seems like a waste of good liquor, but it's just a suggestion!  It's also an excuse to buy more vodka.  After all, it won't take the whole bottle, will it?

A Harry Potter Day......

Chewlee wanted to continue with the Harry Potter episodes and so we watched them until I took her home around 7:30pm or so.  The Princess returned home from taking pictures of an engaged couple right after I dropped off Chewlee.  She had spent over two hours finding different sites for the pictures but she was happy with what she had taken.

In a way, I was glad Chewlee didn't get to see the last two episodes.  They are the most violent and saddest episodes of the whole series.  I haven't been sure she should see them until she is a bit older.  But I watched them again and cried a few times even though I knew what was coming.  I hadn't watched the whole series in ages.  I was amazed at how the stars had gotten older just as their characters did.  I am still crying a bit over the scene where all the people that died for Harry show up to let him know they are still with him....in his heart.  I won't say why they appear in case you haven't seen that part of the series (The Deathly Hallows, Part 1&2).

I finally got my clothes both washed and dried.  Now I just have to fold all the things that didn't need hanging up.  I just got too involved watching the last of the movies to fold them.  Shame on me...LOL.   The ending still gets to me.

On to other things that happened when I paused the movies......  I discovered that the Beast has been giving Chewlee his change and she has been keeping it in the dresser.  It has sections on each side of the mirror you can use for pictures and two of the have doors with etched glass in them.  That is where she has been keeping it all and she's really getting quite a bit of money.  She counted it today and she almost has five dollars now.  She was rather hoping to go spend some of it if the Beast or I went to the store but we didn't.  So she says she will wait until the next time she comes to stay.  We both hope that won't be too far away.  I urged her to do her housework completely and without any complaints.  We shall see if she does.  That's been her mother's big complaint lately.  She does part of it but not completely.

She talked a lot about the things she had seen (from the movies) when she was at the Universal studio.  She would get excited and say *I saw that* or *I was there*...it was cute.  I was glad she had a good time.

The Beast went and bought us some coffee beans since we were low on coffee.  He bought them yesterday because the coffee he ordered from Amazon hasn't gotten here yet.  He was hoping to find our Kauai coffee but all they had was Kona coffee.  He ordered two different varieties to see which we might like.  He just doesn't think we can afford the Kauai and he's right just because of what our insurances (medical, car, house) costs us.  I wish in many ways that I hadn't taken my SS early.  Our finances would be in much better shape because then I would be getting almost as much as the Beast instead of half.  I was making good money at our AC company and that helped me a lot as far as what I am getting.  I understand now that they have pushed back the age you must be for full SS benefits.  I guess I should be grateful.  Oh well.  C'est la vie!

It was another hot day but it was bright and sunny.  Dennis stopped by for a bit and Chewlee was happy to see him.  She WAS going to go over to their house to visit and I told her she could probably go and visit with Di if she wanted.  She didn't want to for some reason.  I guess what she was really curious about was seeing the inside of the house.  I told her that when she came next time, I would take her over there so she could see what the house was like.

I watched a program the other day about the decline of bees due to urbanization.  In some areas, that is probably true but the bees sure get enough food in THIS area.  We aren't the only people planting gardens and lots of flowers for them to get the food they need.  Plus many of the farmers around us have their own bee hives.  I didn't realize that until I heard some people talking the other day when I was at the Dollar Store.  They were talking about getting the honey out of their hives and storing it away.  One woman said she hated the outfits they have to wear to do it but they love the honey so they do it anyway.  They are worried about the African bees infiltrating our area but know that the cold of winter would kill them off.  It's why they are in the Southwestern states.  Those areas don't get as cold and don't get snow.

Well, time to get this posted and put my butt in bed.  I was falling asleep in my computer chair even while Chewlee was here.  She made sure I stayed awake....LOL.  Love you all.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and you have a great week.  ***Hugs***

Gunner's Party And Chewlee Comes For A Sleepover...or Two...

Gunner's party was a success.  He was really cute.  The best part was watching him attack the cake.  I hope the Princess posts a few on her Facebook page.  Johnnycakes had stripped him down to his diaper before putting him in his high chair.  He KNEW what was coming.  At one point, he had so much cake and frosting on both his hands and face that all you could do was laugh.  He really tucked into that cake when it was put on the tray.  The boy has a very healthy appetite.

It seems his new favorite toy is a little chair/toy that his daddy gave him for his birthday.  It has lights and gadgets on it and he just loves to push it around and to lift the lid and slam it down.  Too cute.

The Princess made fun of the card I gave him.  Since it was pink, she said it was a girl's card.  It did NOT say girl anywhere on it.  What happened was I saw the card and liked it but didn't take the front one.  I took one from behind it so it would be fresh.  After grabbing an envelope from the back of the stack and slipping the card into the flap, I really didn't look at the front any more.  That will teach me.  I was so embarrassed.

After the kids left to go home, Chewlee came home with me to spend a night...or two.  She packed clothes and pj's for two days, along with three pair of underwear.  She also brought about 7 or 8 stuffed animals, which are all around her as she sleeps.  She always brings a bunch of them with her.  They aren't really toys or something she plays with.  She just has to have them when she goes to bed.

We spent the evening watching Harry Potter movies.  Not in order.  She wanted to see the one that had Dobby, the house elf in it.  That was #2.  THEN we watched #1.  She had to know how old Harry was in each episode.  He was supposed to be 11 in the first one and I was really surprised to notice just how young he was for that.  I watched the last two episodes of the series on Thursday and Friday on TV and the difference in the ages of the three main stars (Harry, Ron and Hermione) from when they made the first one was really a shock in some ways.  It didn't SEEM like it had taken all that long to make the whole series.  But I guess it did.

I didn't mention it yesterday but we hit the 90's.  I think it was 94 degrees that was the high for the day.  I don't know what it was today but when I checked before I left the house to go to the Princess', it was 93.  Needless to say, we did NOT sit outside.  I DID go out with my nephew, Michael, to warm up.  It actually felt good in the shade of the trees.  Mike and I were actually reminiscing about many things.  He asked me if I remembered when he had his allergic reaction when he was climbing in the mango tree.  He wanted to know if he was allergic to mangoes or what.  I told him he was allergic to the sap of the tree, not the fruit.  We had actually given him cut up mangoes from our tree and he had eaten them without a problem.  Allergies to the sap is quite common.  Even monkeys and chimpanzees are allergic to the sap of the tree but can eat the fruit.  They learn to avoid the sap when getting the fruit out of the tree.

Mike was really surprised at that information since he had been avoiding all kinds of things that had mangoes in it, thinking he was highly allergic to it.  But his reaction was only on his body, where the sap had touched it.  Now he says he is going to try some of the things his wife wanted to make that include mango in it.  He will probably keep some benadryl handy...just in case.  LOL!

I really like his little daughter, Allysa.  She is just beautiful and has a sweet personality, too.  She and Chewlee get along well although I think Chewlee is a bit bossy when she is at her own house.  Chewlee has a sore on her knee from a fall she had the other day.  She kept telling me she got it from a crayon!  I gather she tripped and fell on the crayon and that caused the boo-boo.  I'm not sure how it happened but it bled a little this afternoon.  I put some triple antibiotic on it and covered it with two fabric bandages.  She said her mother doesn't buy bandages like I have but makes hers up with gauze and tape.  The trouble is that Chewlee really hates to keep them on for long.  I made her leave the bandages alone and said she could take them off tomorrow if they still bothered her but tonight they were covering the triple antibiotic and helping it heal the sore.  She wasn't happy about it but she left them alone.

I had washed my clothes from the week this morning but forgot to throw them in the dryer before I left.  I had actually wanted my pajama jeans to wear to the party but Sheepie gave me such a hard time about wearing them at Chewlee's birthday party that I wore my pedal pushers instead.  I would have dressed differently for Gunner's party if I would have realized that the Princess had set her air conditioning to 30 degrees (j/k...but it was COLD!).  The only reason I kept going outside was that I really needed to warm up.  My one hand was starting to hurt (the one with the arthritis in two fingers).

Even Michael, who is on the heavy side, felt it and he usually LOVES the cold.  He HAS lost 20 lbs so far since he started going to the gym.  I talked to him about how I lost 100 lbs in a year just by eating a better diet.  I should do that again just so I don't start putting the weight back on.  It seems like when I gain 20 lbs, then I start eating a better diet until I drop it again.  I just want to maintain my current 125 lbs.  It's best for my frame, just tough on my wardrobe.  I have more clothes for being heavier...lol.  I really didn't think I would get down to this weight again.  Oh well.

We are expecting a week of 90+ weather, which is unusual for this time of year here.  We don't usually get that until August and then it doesn't last long.  But our weather all over is changing.  The Beast wants to have a picnic on the lake at this spot he found.  I discovered where he meant when I went to Chewlee's party with Cee.  We drove past it on our way to the RV resort.  In fact, some people had actually put up a tent to sleep in and intended to spend the night.  It made me ALMOST wish we had a tent.  Chewlee is dying to spend the night camping in a tent she told me a couple times.

This would actually be the perfect weather for that as long as you had a lot of trees around the picnic table and grill areas.  AND, of course, as long as it doesn't rain....LOL.  I really enjoyed tent camping when my kids (and I) were young.  I read somewhere recently that over 76 % of seniors over the age of 50 do NOT camp out in tents.  I gather we are the RV and camper type than we are tenters.  With my back, I can understand that.  Can you take a mattress camping out in a tent??  LOL...j/k.

Time to get this missive posted.  Love you all and I hope you have had an enjoyable weekend so far.  I've enjoyed mine and I have my Chewlee here.  More fun tomorrow.  ***Hugs***

Not A Great Day....

Today was the first time since before my surgery that I had a small IBS attack.  I say *small* because it only happened to me twice.  The terrible part of it is that it gives you no warning and you cannot control it at all.  I mean that you are unloading as you run for the bathroom and that is NOT fun.  *Sigh*  I really had hopes that removing the dead area of the colon would mean that it would end for me.  I guess I was wrong.  But at least it seems to be over.  It's just not fun cleaning up the mess afterward.  At least it wasn't too bad this time.

The tomato plant that has the most tomatoes on it that I have been talking about looks like it may be dying from shock.  It was knocked over a couple times before the Beast and I secured it to the railing around the deck.  It was showing signs of shock but we hoped it would recover.  Now I'm not sure.  BUT...the rains the past two weeks have really sent all the tomato plants into overdrive and now they all look like Godzilla plants and today we looked at them all and they seem to have also decided to produce a hell of a lot of tomatoes.  The one the Beast planted below the deck and secured to the trellis has grown to where it is now taller than the top of the rail of the deck!  The Beast inspected it and was surprised at the number of tomatoes in varying degrees of growth on it.  I think I will be able to can some salsa this year...LOL.

I spent a lot of the day just resting up since I want to attend Gunner's party tomorrow.  If my bowels are working right, I will be able to.  I sure don't want to attend if that's not the case.  It would be too embarrassing.

I'm tired since I was not able to take my nap today because of the number of trips I made to the bathroom.  Although I only had the two incidents, I became a bit paranoid if gas even rumbled in my stomach and headed to the bathroom.  Can you blame me?

The Beast went to pull a very large weed out of one of his flower pots today and he wasn't careful about it.  He ended up uprooting a portion of the flowers and didn't notice it.  I was glad I was out there because I had to fix it for him or he would have lost those flowers entirely.  It's really a shame how much he disturbed it because they were really pretty.

I finally got my hummingbird feeders down off the shepherd's crook that we hang them from today.  They are a pain to get up there due to how the Beast installed it and then built the trellis so that it is partially in the way.  THEN....he puts his two biggest flower pots in front of them so I almost have to be an acrobat to put them up OR take them down.  Putting them up while they are full is the hardest part.  You almost can't do it without spilling quite a bit of the liquid out of them.

Love you all.  Hope your weekend is a great one.  Be good.  Be careful.  ***Hugs***

Okay....here's the next helpful hint:  What's the easiest way to remove crayon, pencil, ink, and furniture scuffs from painted surfaces?  Just sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge, rub clean, and rinse.

Rain Today, Weeding Tomorrow....

It started out a really nice day....bright, sunny and warm.  The Beast left to meet up with some of the people from his church.  But he returned earlier than expected due to the fact that it got dark out and started pouring down rain.  That brought their outdoor activities to an end.

I had said that we would do the weeding the day after we had a good rain so that's what we will be doing tomorrow.  It's really needed but the weeds will be much easier to pull after today.  The other thing that the Beast did today was head up to Aldi's to buy some bird seed since we were all out of it.  The birds were perching and voicing their objections until the Beast finally felt guilty.  He also picked up a few other things (he just can't resist...lol), mostly canned goods.  He likes to buy his bird seed there since he discovered it was a lot cheaper than at Walmart AND he could get the song bird variety which contains many more of the pumpkin seeds or whatever they are.  The birds love them.

I had a hummingbird attack on my feeders for them for some reason.  One had been half full and it's empty now..well, almost.  The other one has only a quarter left in it and it was also half full.  I guess they are firmly nesting now and it's much faster for them to eat and run back to their nests.  They don't have to visit a lot of flowers to get the nourishment that the feeders can provide much faster.  Since I still had the one with fluid in it, I didn't refill the other one yet.  I really didn't want to get wet.  The early birds will have to feed off the big feeder.

We tried this garlic chicken with noodles made by a Chinese firm for dinner tonight.  It was tasty but.....it actually made my tongue numb for some reason.  I don't know if it was the strange spices or the garlic in it.  I love garlic but I almost couldn't finish what I had.  The Beast and I agreed we would never buy that particular kind again.  We've had much better esperiences with other things made by the same company.

The first birthday party for Gunner is going to be held on Saturday afternoon.  Sister Cee won't be there but a lot of other people will be.  I'm definitely going and I have to remember to call the Princess and ask her if she wants me to bring something.  I'm hoping it's a nice day.  I am feeling almost normal again and that makes me feel good.  I can do more around the house again and even make lunch and dinner again.  The Beast and I often compete since he has learned to like cooking.  He often gets very creative as  you know.  I was surprised the first time he made us patty melts.  He did a wonderful job with them.  It was a surprise that he even tried it.  He got the onions just perfect.  That's what he says he wants to make us for either lunch or dinner tomorrow.

Well, it's late and I would like to be up early to get the weeding done.  It won't be a fun job but it has to happen.  They steal a lot of the nutrition the tomato and pepper plants need.  I was kind of surprised that there aren't many weeds in the strawberry patch but they've spread so much that I don't think the weeds are getting any sun at all.  But I will make a closer inspection tomorrow.

Love you all.  I hope you have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend.  Be good.  Smile a lot.  ***Hugs***
