I Am So Excited...!

I got a real surprise today when the Princess called me.  I gather Chewlee wants to come over and spend a few days with me.  I'm going to meet up with the Princess on Thursday afternoon (after she picks up Chewlee from school) at one of the bigger stores in Boaz.  She laughed and said she didn't want me getting lost, trying to find her school again.  Yes, I've done that two or three times.  **Blushing**  I'm getting her on Thursday because she has no school on Friday.  *Grin*

When I told the Beast, he asked how long we could keep her and I told him probably until Saturday afternoon at least but that I would ask the Princess to be sure when I went to go get Chewlee.   I just hope she puts her clothes for her stay in the Princess' car beforehand so she's not stuck with just what she can fit in her backpack, along with what she needs for school.

Today the Beast made his banana bread....finally.  I was afraid he would end up throwing out the overripe bananas without using them.  Another day or two and they would have been useless.

I'm pretty sure that the chickens put themselves away when the light hits a certain point.  What they discern as *dusk*,  perhaps?  But they will all run out to meet up with the Beast unless both barn doors are shut.  They have a chicken that stays in the yard of the coop and makes this weird sound that must be how she tells them that he's coming!  They really, really look forward  to their cracked corn every night.

The Beast was reading all about how eggs from certain chickens were healthy for you to eat...I guess I should say healthier.  The chickens had to be free range so that they have access to grasses and other greens and that they have access to sunlight.  Those eggs are sold in health food stores for....get this!....$5.00 a dozen!!!  I told the Beast that NOW we should put up a sign and start selling the darn eggs.  LOL!

He took four dozen eggs to some of his church friends this morning when he met up with them.  I was so happy to get rid of more of the eggs.  I worry that they might get *old* even though the chicken farmers magazine says they will stay good for a LONG time.  Longer than eggs from those egg factories that most commercial eggs come from.  Even those have a long *shelf life*, too.  But not as long as the eggs we get from our chickens.

I'm getting a kick out of them lately.  We started putting the cat's dry food dish on the table out on the deck (we keep it on the patio so she can snack when she wants to)  thinking it would keep the chickens from eating it on her.  Yes, they seem to like it.   I went to go sit out on the deck and watch the chickens for a bit and discovered one of the  hens was on the table, eating the cat's food!  I called the Beast over to the door and he went out ahead of me to shoo the chicken off the table.  She flew down from the table all the way to the yard in one fell swoop.  It made me laugh.

The cat, Sassy, doesn't bother the chickens when they come to eat her food.  In fact, she kind of just lets them eat it because it's the one time that they will peck her hard if she tries to eat with them.  She will slink off a few feet until they are done.  That's usually when I have to refill her bowl.  I don't think their eating it is good for them so I guess we will have to bring that bowl in the house.  Sassy will just have to get use to eating it inside when she gets hungry.

Baron has become kind of a picky eater since he was sick.  The Beast made him some rice that he mixed in with his canned dog food but Baron turned up his nose to it.  That was really strange because he has always loved when rice was part of his meal.  BUT...because the Beast worries about him when he doesn't seem to want to eat, he gave him two pieces of chicken (he de-bones the thighs first) that he then warmed up a bit since they are kept in the fridge after he cooks them.  Baron ate the chicken and then ate all of the canned food with the rice, too.  I swear that Baron knows who is the one he can manipulate into  giving him special treatment just by not eating his normal stuff.

I have to make an appointment with the Beast's eye doctor for him.  He's having trouble, again, with his right eye.  He's losing sight in it once more.  He found that out when he was using his camera last time.  He ended up having to use the left eye instead to focus and make sure the settings were correct.  That scares me a bit.  I can't think of anything worse than his losing his sight in that eye.  I do NOT want to be his driver all the time.  I think if he loses his sight in that eye, it would make him ineligible to renew his license.  Trust me, he would hate it even more than me.

Well, the Beast went to bed at 8pm after pronouncing himself a true *old person* because he was tired.  Sheesh.  He was up at 5:30am.  Of course he's tired.  He doesn't take a nap like *I* do.

My naps are shorter for some reason.  I only sleep for about an hour at a time.  Today I got an elastic *bandage* for my knee because Dollar General didn't have the regular ones.  They call this one an *elastic knee brace*.  It did the job, however, and for that, I am grateful.  It got rid of the throbbing at least.

Okay, time to post this missive.  Sorry to have gone on and on.  Love you all.  Be good.  Be kind.  ***Hugs***

  1. Just put your bananas in a zip lock bag and throw them in the freezer. It's what I've been doing for decades. Then when you want to make banana bread, just let them thaw. They look awful (all black and mushy), but the banana taste and flavor is so rich, you won't believe it. It's like concentrated banana flavor. I'm always getting compliments on my banana bread.
