We Couldn't Help Ourselves!!!!

We had Italian beef for dinner...again.  We are weak.  It's just soooo good!  The Beast is talking about going to Publix and getting a couple more hard rolls because we have enough left for at least two more sandwiches.  And this is just from the first package!  Thank you, thank you, Carol!  Wish you were here to share.

The Beast had to run and buy another bag of corn for the chickens.  He bought the wrong kind last week.  When he opened it up, he realized his mistake.  Instead of cracked corn, he'd gotten whole kernel corn.  That's great if you are feeding it to cattle or pigs but it's too big for chickens.  He tried to give them some but they couldn't bite it so they just scratched at it and couldn't eat it at all.  Tonight they were a bit wary of what the Beast threw down until a couple of them tried it....then it was a mad scramble....LOL.

The Beast was out with some of his church group this morning and I was just watching TV in my pajamas when I heard what sounded like one of the chickens choking.  I quickly got dressed and went out to check on them.  There were five of the chickens under the tree in front of my computer room window.  I stood on the deck looking down at them and wait to see if I heard the sound again.  I did, finally, and you will never guess what.  I think one of our hens was trying to crow!  LOL.  It was the worst sound but she threw her head back, imitating the rooster but the most god-awful sound came out.  The other hens actually walked away from her then waited for her to stop making the awful noise before they came back under the tree.   When I told the Beast about it, he said he had heard the same thing a few days ago.  He also thought that the chicken was choking or some such thing.  He couldn't believe that the sound was coming from one of the hens!

It was chilly here today so I got to wear one of the sweater tops I bought at the thrift store.  It was just perfect for the temperature (it was 61 degrees).  It never got above 74 for our high but I was in and out of the house.  The sun felt much warmer if you stayed in it for any length of time but I didn't.  I was just pulling out morning glory vines from our bushes out front.  I love those flowers but they are a real pain because they are so invasive....and hard to get rid of, too.  How they got mixed up among our bushes, I have no idea.  We never planted any and none of our neighbors have them either.  They will take over anything and obscure them from view.  When we had the tree next to our porch, it actually grew around it, up it and all over the branches until it looked like a morning glory tree!  And it did it in a short amount of time, too.

Poor Baron is still doing the pity party thing.  Today he was just hungry for affection and attention.  We gave it to him...to a point.  He ate his own food today, which we were glad to see.  I noticed that he seems to be putting weight back on and is looking more like himself.  No more ribs showing.  They only showed up slightly but still.....

He did something funny tonight.  He had been laying on his mattress when he got up, went over to grab his blanket and then he put it on his mattress, pushed it into a pile then laid down using it as a pillow for his head!  He has NEVER had a pillow for his head since he was a puppy.....and then he only had it for a short time.  He stopped using it when he got his first dog bed.  I told the Beast to grab one of the old pillows and see if he would use it.  Who knows?  Maybe it's just a bit more comfortable of a position with his arthritis.  He can't keep using his blanket since we use that to keep him warm during the winter because we keep our bedroom so cool (and the Beast worries about the dog being cold since he doesn't have a double coat like other dogs do).

Time to post this now.  I'm actually very tired tonight so I am going to try going to sleep earlier than usual.  It can't hurt.  Love you all.  Be good.  Be kind.  Be happy.  ***Hugs***
