The Beast felt good enough to make his big meeting today. He got up around 4:00am...but, remember, he went to bed at 7pm so he got plenty of sleep. I was up and made him a lunch to take with him and, when he left at 5am, I went back to bed. *I* slept until 9am, which was a very good time to wake up. I had a lot I needed to get done. I had to water all the various flowers on the deck and all the hanging pots, plus the ones around the base of the barn. Then I had to water the various tomato plants, the green pepper and the strawberries.
Looks like the rabbits or raccoons got to the ripe strawberries because they were GONE today. A few tomatoes and cherry tomatoes were also gone or half eaten. Since they were all lower ones, I really suspect rabbits. The raccoons would have carried them off because of their being so anal about having water to constantly wash their hands. If we kept water outside for Baron, they would have used his water bowl even but we have no water they can get to out there, not even in the bird bath since the Beast doesn't have it where the birds would even try to access it. He hates to keep having to move it in order to mow the grass out back so it's now on the cottage porch where they will NOT use it. They barely touched the hanging bird feeders there except for the one that was on the roof section over the porch that was on the small end. That was turned so that they could easily fly off if frightened.
My poor bff, Carol, said they have had several days of weather of 100 degrees where she lives outside of San Francisco. It's definitely way hotter than they are used to having during their summers. They don't even have AC in their house (having never needed it!) so they just had to roast, she said. At their age, I feel dreadful for them. Neither of them are spring chickens any more. But, hell, neither am I. The Beast can at least turn on the window AC in the dining area and it cools down the kitchen, dining and living room. I prefer heat so I close my computer room door and usually stay inside it as much as I can. Today wasn't as bad as normal although I didn't look to see the temp. I'm going by the way I felt as I dragged that heavy damn hose all over the yard to water everything.
The Beast has decided to sleep in the guest room to see how he feels about getting the same mattress for our bed (heck, I was planning on using the guest room for myself since that was the mattress I have wanted for YEARS!) So he turned on the fan to exhaust to bring in the AC while he sleeps. *I* am sleeping in my recliner! He can sleep with just a sheet over him. Me? I must have a minimum of a comforter, although I prefer a quilt when there's no AC to worry about. I am NOT kidding. I get too chilled, otherwise. Even without having AC, I get chilled without something warmer than a sheet over me.
I'm going to be curious how he feels after a night on that mattress. I'll let you know what he says. The rest of the day I did things like sweep the kitchen floor. Baron had kibble everywhere! And with my neuropathy in my feet, they HURT when I am not watching and step on some. The Beast can walk over it all day long and never think to sweep up the mess. Maybe because he keeps hoping Baron will eat what he spills. I really don't know. He can be anal about dragging in grass clippings on shoes or when Baron has it on his paws but why the kibble doesn't bother him, I have no real idea.
I also had two loads of washing to do and had to load up the dishwasher and get that going. I emptied all the garbage cans in the house, and even emptied the waste baskets before I carried them out to the big garbage bin just outside the garage. My computer one really needed emptying. The kitchen one needs it almost daily. I pulled out the Texas toast from the freezer in the garage but didn't end up making the spaghetti sauce I had planned. Instead, I also pulled out some center cut pork chops (the thin cut ones). My plan was to cook those up instead of spaghetti either to have as sandwiches OR make some nuked potatoes and use the dripping from the pork chops to make some country gravy for over them. I have some fresh broccoli or fresh spinach I could also make, depending on how hungry the Beast was when he got home.
However, he wasn't terribly hungry when he got home at almost 5pm since he hadn't eaten his lunch until around 1pm when they took their break. He had stopped to grab breakfast at McD's on his way there. He loves their Big Breakfast with pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hash browns. He told me he got to Huntsville around 6:30am and got a handicapped spot right near the door he needed to go in. He leaned his seat back, turned on the CD player and *took a rest with his eyes closed*. Someone knocked on his window when they opened the doors to let him know so he even got a decent seat early, too. For him, it was a very good day.
So, I figured that I would wait until he got hungrier to worry about making our dinner. I had clothes to fold to keep me busy anyway. What do I find him doing? He wasn't hungry for food....he was hungry for SNACKS!!! He ate ice cream...a lot of it. Then had some pie with MORE ice cream on it (apple pie). He watched TV for a while and ate potato chips (with coffee...can you imagine?). So I went and heated up some leftover sloppy joe and ate that with a few potato chips for MY dinner. *Sigh* And I so had a taste for pork chops after watching them thaw all day. But that IS what we will eat tomorrow or he will suffer!!! And I am the gal who can do it, too...LOL.
The Beast hit the sack around 8:30pm. That was actually a bit later than I expected considering how early he was up today. But to him it was a nice, interesting day. It was only the drive home that tensed him up. He took Baron out for his run after he got home, which made Baron VERY happy. That dog will NOT live long if the Beast dies before he does, I swear. He just mopes around (and truly does some heavy sighing!) when the Beast is gone. He barely eats but will insist on food when the Beast is finally home after being gone for several hours. I fed him at 1pm (Baron) and he meandered over to his food like he really wasn't interested but he would see what I put out for him. When I looked later, he had even licked the bowl damn near clean! Not interested, my ass.
Baron is unhappy tonight because I keep shooing him out of the guest room whenever I go to the bathroom. He thinks because the Beast is in there, he should be in there, too. I don't want him wiping his face oils all over the new sheets, and quilt and pawing up the runner next to the bed. For some reason, he HATES any scatter rug we have down in there but he's kind of worn a spot in the rug in front of the dresser. Some of it is just from his need to scrape his *bed* with his nails before he lays down. I make him go on his bed in the master bedroom (the door is open to help make sure Baron is comfy while sleeping). His head is down when I make him go back there because it's NOT where he wants to be. I hate to be mean but he just sheds too badly for a short-hair dog. It's incredible the amount of hair he sheds in just ONE day! Yet the vet tells us it's actually normal for him to shed more in warm weather than he does in cold. Well, duh! But he still sheds just walking through a room, even in winter. That she says is due to the heat in the house. You just can't win!
It's after midnight here now and it's 74 degrees out and I am starting to feel chilled, can you believe it? After I post this, I am heading for bed myself. Love you all and I hope you have a great week. Be good. Drive carefully. Be kind. ***Hugs***
HINT: Alleviate neck tension....Been leaning over your work too long? Try this to help a hurting neck.. Inhale and raise your shoulders up to your ears, pulling them as high as they will go. Then let go with an *ahhh* and drop them slowly back down. Repeat several times to release muscle tension.
