I finally got out into the yard to pick all the ripe tomatoes off the vines today. Even the cherry tomatoes were ready to pick. I found out that our neighbor (with permission from the Beast) has been taking a lot of cherry tomatoes, too. Glad since there are so damn many of them. I had a big bowl to put the tomatoes in but I didn't expect to fill it like I did. I had to do a lot of bending and even get on my knees a few times to reach the tomatoes. That was especially true of the cherry tomatoes. I am amazed at the sheer amount of green ones on it, too.
When I found a large green pepper hiding in the leaves, I picked it and have to figure out what I am going to make to use up the peppers that the Beast found the other day. I'm thinking I would love to just cook them up in a little beef broth and use them with some thinly sliced beef for hot beef and pepper sandwiches. Yum!
I found, to my distress, that my hips were really paining me once I started towards the stairs up to the deck. I hurt so badly that I was afraid I wouldn't make it up the stairs! It really made me realize that, regardless of how I feel in my head, I am getting old. *Sigh* I DID make it up but I had to sit down the minute I hit the table. I set down the tomatoes and breathed a sigh of relief. I didn't even TRY to make it to the cottage to find the purse and other things I wanted to find out there.
Later in the day, I helped the Beast carry out one of the thin plywood sheets he has stored there and grabbed the purse. I pointed out to the Beast where the down comforter was for our bed in the winter. Also the quilts. I must make a return trip there tomorrow to get my yarn and look thru the clothes I had him bring out there last year. I may have some jeans that will fit me now. Even that much walking (without bending) gave my hips a fit. I've never had hip trouble before. Wonder why I am having it now. I will have to bring it up to the doctor when I see him next month.
The weather today was great. It only hit 79 as our high so it was perfect for having the screened doors open to let in the breeze. The Beast and I sat at the table for a bit to watch the birds feed at the feeders. Cardinals, titmouses, Mourning doves, wrens and even a bluebird were all taking advantage of the seeds we have out there. Funny how they prefer the higher and smaller feeder. We think it's really because it IS highest of the two feeders. I told you he had put platforms up for both of them. One is facing inward, towards the deck, the higher one is placed outward.
He's decided he has to rotate the higher one slightly more so he can get a view of both sides with his camera placed on his tripod here in the house. That way he can use his remote and not spook the birds while they are feeding. He hopes to get pictures of some of the unusual birds that we've seen feeding there. We would like to be able to find out exactly what they are. They are totally new to us.
Looks like our weather all week is going to be fairly mild but with lots of chances for thunderstorms. I just hope they are all at night and will give us a chance to keep up with the fast ripening tomatoes and strawberries. It's helping us in one way (lower water bill) as well as keeping the flowers blooming but the ground is getting really saturated and makes the Beast's job of mowing almost impossible. The grass is growing so fast now that it's becoming a job he has to do every four or five days!
Love you all. I've been watching the Godzilla movie marathon all afternoon and night but it's almost over now. Funny but I have all these on DVD's but I still love them. The Beast thinks I am strange but I am just not into the movies that HE likes....LOL. At least I watch my DVD's. Chewlee loves to go through them and pick the ones we will watch when she has a sleepover. She's going to love the new bed when she sleeps on it. *Grin* Be good. Hope you had a great weekend and an even better week. ***Hugs***
HINT: Bug bite? A great way to treat mosquito bites is with a dab of ammonia, which stops them from itching. In fact, ammonia is the main ingredient in many of the itch-relief products currently on the market. You can also try a dab of rubbing alcohol.
