It seems there is no making the Beast happy. To be pain-free, he needs to take a pain pill. But the pain pills make him a bit nauseous and *heavy* feeling. I gather what THAT means is that his mind gets fuzzy and his body feels disconnected. He really IS a light-weight that way with pain pills. He should be taking my tramadol, which is not as potent as the oxycodone that his doctor gave him. BUT...it DOES take away the pain.
If he doesn't take the pain pill, his right knee (for now it's that knee) gives him hell. He can't sit down or get up without it hurting him badly. At least, that's what he says and how he acts. With men, you just can't always tell, can you? Until shortly before the Beast had his strokes, he really had never had more than a headache or two and a cold on occasion. He really had no idea what real pain or illness was until then. But I think he's forgotten a lot of that after all these years (12 now).
He makes me crazy with his need to accomplish at least ONE chore that he feels needs doing around the house or in the yard. If it's in the house, I let him do it because it usually is something that *I* would have to do. It saves me from having to do one thing or another (and he's gotten quite good at some things!) and I can keep an eye on him and make him rest if needed. If he decides it's something outside (that's usually mowing), it's pretty benign and not hard on him except for the heat. I don't interfere with that. He's made the fence repairs already and we don't have to worry about any pressure-cleaning since his buddy sent over the two guys to work around here for us. They also pulled weeds out of the garden and, although we should probably get out there and keep it up, we can't really do it with the Beast's knee problems. Damned if you do, damned if you don't....... He really can't do it without a pain pill but the pain pill just about makes him keel over.
He's going to be gone all day long from the 10th through the 12th so I will be able to get out there and do some of that (pray the weeds don't go crazy, won't you?). If I try to do that without him when he's here, he will MAKE himself come outside to help (and to make sure I don't pull out anything he deems important...like thinning out the strawberries, which needs doing!) Today he spent the morning cleaning the headboard of the old bed that we had in the guest room. He did a great job of it. He was thinking it would need to be painted but it looks brand new. We really haven't done much to it except dust it from time-to-time over the years but it IS a good piece of furniture. At least it really IS solid wood. Now the headboard SHINES!
He wants to do the dresser and the hutch top next. I'll help him take the hutch/mirror section off the dresser and then, maybe, I will be able to get him to empty the drawers he has filled with his computer parts and put them elsewhere. It would be nice to have at least a drawer or two for company to use. Chewlee has one drawer that has some of her stuff in it. Which I should go through and see what needs to be given to her mother before she outgrows it....if she hasn't already. The girl is ALL legs....LOL!
He decided to let his buddy decide if he was up to the task and move the mattress, box springs and the frame to the trailer. The mattress was really the only tough part, the box springs was just cumbersome so he helped the Beast and they got it loaded. That was the only other task the Beast took care of today. But it made him feel good and that he accomplished something positive. Tomorrow will be a real test when he starts on the dresser and hutch. At some point he will have to kneel and I doubt that he will be up to THAT. I offered him this little portable seat I have that would work but I don't know if he will use it or not. It's one of those that have a kind of sling seat that folds up flat to store away when not in use. I'll just have to keep an eye on him.
I spent the day folding more clothes and will have more to do tomorrow. I only did one load and then it was folding blankets that had to be stored away. Oh, I did run up to Publix to buy some lunchmeat, cheese, hoagie rolls (hard ones) and some canned dog food. We made subs complete with fresh tomato from our garden (I may have some for you by this weekend, Cee!), some lettuce I sliced up and some of that great submarine oil and vinegar seasoning. They were so tasty! It hit the spot. Love those hard rolls that Publix makes in their bakery. I got the last three they had and wish I had been able to get four so we could do it again tomorrow. I should have grabbed a loaf of Italian bread, too. That would have worked...lol.
Time to get this posted. Love you all. Hope you are surviving whatever weather you have in your area. Stay safe. ***Hugs***
HINT: When measuring sticky foods like peanut butter or cream cheese, first rinse the inside of the measuring cup with hot water. The food you are measuring will slide out easily into your bowl.
