Well, it turns out the reason the Beast didn't end up with Dexter was the woman that came to the house told the head of the program that she felt the Beast was old and frail and she was afraid that Dexter would pull hard and end up hurting him. But she had a solution to that. She sent over a different dog with a different woman.
I guess you would have to say it was love at first sight for the Beast. The dog is definitely at least part Lab. I have to say, he seems very sweet natured. He's younger, just 7 months old and he hasn't had a lot of training, which is kind of unfortunate since it's more work for the Beast. But he got into the Beast's lap and that's a matter of trust and comfort. Shoot! He got into my lap, too, and that surprised the hell out of me.
The Beast took him to Petco and bought him a training collar and you wouldn't believe how differently he reacted when he had that on him. It was like a different dog. Not only did he like it, but he became very obedient and a lot less puppy-like. He's very calm for such a young puppy but, since he was a rescue, there's no telling what he went through before he was abandoned. They think he was only 4 weeks old and he was both starved and sick when found. He's now very healthy and is heartworm free (he was checked for that immediately but no heartworm....phew!) plus is up-to-date on his shots. The love at first sight made the Beast commit to adopting him. So we have a dog. His name? Don't laugh....it's Dennis. ROFLMAO! Our friend and neighbor will definitely react to that!
The other two surprises are packages I got from my bff, Carol. She actually located the special tape the nurses use on me when they have to put a bandage on anything. She sent me a whole box of it so I now have enough to last me for a long time. She is amazing.
She also found balsam candles and sent me two of those. One is a large one, the other is normal sized. AND she sent me a Hot Apple Pie scented one, too. She said in her email that they should get me through the Holidays. I lit the big one and was surprised that the scent of the balsam actually filled my computer room! Even the Beast smelled it when he came in to tell me about Dennis and bedtime. He looked at him and said, *Well, it's bedtime, Dennis. Time to go to sleep.* He went right into the crate and the woman that was here said he hadn't really been crate trained. But he curled up inside it and was just waiting for the Beast to turn out the light. Amazing. Plus, I was really pleased that the Beast could smell the balsam scent in here. It makes me nostalgic for the Christmas' with my kids when they were young. I loved watching them open their gifts and drinking hot chocolate together. Kids and gifts are fun to watch.
Ahh, well. I guess those days are behind me now. My grandkids and great-grands don't notice that I'm not around. Holidays are more for the young. We old people don't interest them...just because we are old, I think. They just don't know how much it makes us happy to see them be happy and surprised.
Time for my shower and bedtime now. It's late and I am yawning like my jaws will crack....LOL. I love you all. Special hugs for my bff, Carol, for her generous heart. Love you all. Stay warm. ***Hugs***
