As much as I have hated not being able to stand or sit for these past couple of weeks, tonight I got a bit of a surprise. The Beast went to one of his church meetings and I wanted some coffee so I had to go out to the kitchen for it. As I was walking there on my crutches, it struck me that I didn't need to use as much leverage when moving forward and having to be on the left leg. I was so surprised at this that I took a couple steps without really using the left crutch. Not only did it not make me want to cry out in pain but I took two steps before I almost fell because the hip told me to *cut it out*. But I can tell it's healing so all the aggravation of having to lay down most of the time was well worth it.
The hip is not hurting me at the moment and it's been almost 3 hours that I have been sitting at my computer. Amazing!!!! I spent some time talking to Bratfink and Mustachio. Poor Mustachio has to work outside in the cold weather during some installations and he's not looking forward to it at all. He said with his luck, his calls tomorrow will probably end up being mostly outside work. I told him to leave his truck running with the heat on so he can duck into it to warm up every 10-15 minutes (because of the wind chill they expect in Louisville area). He doesn't want to chance frostbite. He once had to do a job in Cincinnati, Ohio where the temperature was minus 52 degrees in the wind. He and his helper worked for 10 minutes then had to go inside for 20 minutes or so to warm up before they were both ready to head outside and tackle the work again. He said an hour's job ended up taking them over four hours. I was surprised it only took them that long.
Bratfink is worried about the *outside* cats that Sheldon has been feeding now for several weeks (some of them longer than that). Their wind chill in Indiana will be brutal. I can't blame her and the outside cats, when they do venture into the house, either get chased out by her *inside* cats or they demand to be let out again quickly. She would feel better if they at least came in to warm up. She has no idea where they spend their nights and that bothers her a lot. It would be different if they were someone's cats (or several someone's) and they were just freeloading extra food at their house. But it doesn't seem like it to either of them so even Sheldon is worried sick about their well-being.
Tomorrow we may get snow flurries and, if we do, it means there will be accidents happening. All the schools are going to have delayed starts because of the temperature it will be for the bus students mostly. I don't think we have many students that walk to school. It's not like living in a city like Chicago or New York where you take city buses to school or the subways and there's outside walking you have to do. Lord, do I remember those days!
By Thursday morning, we will be down into the single digits with wind chills below zero. But we start recovering on Friday. The snow and really cold temperatures don't usually last long for us here. We are affected by the normal air flow from the Gulf. But who knows what all this global warming will do for us. At least, it will seem fairly normal for us this time. We just don't get many days down into the single digits.
The Beast and I just had soup and some fantastically fresh and tasty bread from Publix for our dinner. I hadn't had chicken and rice soup in years but it seemed tastier to me than I remembered it. Either that or I was really hungry....LOL. I had the same bread for my sandwich at lunch and was surprised at how fresh it was. It made the ham and tomato seem heavenly. We have always had a problem with bread being fresh here. It was like all we could buy was bread that was already stale and more fit for the birds than people. My reaction was normally to toast it lightly and that worked for me but the Beast was always having a fit. Now that Publix is here, their bakery is constantly making fresh breads of all kinds and we sometimes get the loaves still warm from the oven. Yum!
Well, time for me to get this posted and get ready for bed. I'm tired and the Beast has already gone to bed for the night. He even took Baron outside to pee and do a bit of running around. Baron headed for his bed as soon as they came back into the house. He doesn't do well in cold weather and the Beast refuses to think about buying him a sweater even though he KNOWS that Dobies are subject to bad reactions to both sun and cold. I wanted to buy him some booties for when we have snow so he doesn't get frostbit on his feet but the Beast almost had a heart attack over the idea. Men! They can be so dense at times. Like Baron's manhood would be threatened? Too funny.
Love you all. Be good and dress appropriately for whatever weather you are having. Take care. ***Hugs***
