It looks like we may have another broody hen. To make sure, the Beast is going to mark it with red paint this time (I bought it). We have just discovered that there is another hen (at least we think it is the same one) that seems to be trying to hatch eggs. The Beast put up another nesting box because the egg production is down and we think it may be because of the two hens seeming to *hog* the nesting boxes. We may even find that they are laying eggs in strange places because of that.
We'll explore the yard tomorrow when it's light out to find out. The Beast tried looking around tonight with a flashlight (because it was getting dark) but really couldn't see some of the spots that seemed most likely.
He has no idea when the woman that wants five of our chickens will be coming. She's going to have to find something to confine them in first, I'm sure. To transport them home, I mean. I sure hope she already has a place for them. They are used to our barn/shed and the fenced coop. They do seem to like to be able to roam around the yard and they run for the coop when the Beast is mowing the back yard. They do like to crawl all over it when it's not running, however....LOL.
It's going to be weird to only have 8 chickens to count at night. But it will bring down the number of eggs we have to deal with every day. That will be a relief.
Nothing special went on today for either me or the Beast. It was too hot and muggy for him to spend any time outside other than when he took Baron out for his short run. That's all that he seems to need these days in order to poop. He only goes down to the lot at the corner and then wants to come back home. It's not all that long. It's been a really long time since he ran all around the circle and then rushed to beat the Beast home (who drives the scooter slowly until he's at the corner). I actually think this breaks the Beast's heart.
Baron is acting more and more like an old dog. I think we will be lucky if he lives another year but I hope I am wrong. It will truly break the Beast's heart. I know what it feels like to lose a dog (or a cat) that you love. I've lost both kinds more than once. But Baron is truly the Beast's best buddy and vice versa. Baron is not the same dog when the Beast is gone for any length of time. He will be lost when the Beast goes to Chicago next month but I've dealt with that. Only the first day or two will be bad, then he will act more like usual.
I hope you all have had a good week so far. I wish you a great day tomorrow. We are supposed to have rain and/or thunderstorms. We shall see. Be good. Live life to the fullest. ***Hugs***
