I don't know about you, but I kind of like to *ease* into summer weather. It got warm today...VERY warm. Well, let's face it...it got HOT! Our high today was 84 degrees. Can you believe it? But it was actually a very nice hot because it wasn't humid out.
The Beast and I got out and started pulling some of the weeds and debris out of the vegetable boxes. We just threw it all down into various piles on the ground and the Beast ran over them with the riding mower. He does that every year when we clean the boxes out. Actually, we found very little weeds in them this year. But, oh boy! You should see how the strawberries have spread. They have taken over one whole section of the boxes. We will have one hell of a crop of strawberries this year. That will please Chewlee who will pick one, eat one, pick one, eat one.....you get the idea. I no longer let her go out and pick them for a meal once I saw her red stained mouth but her hands were free from any stains. She thought she was putting one over on us....LOL! Kids! Gotta love them. Some things never change from generation to generation. Of course, you expect them to do that but she kind of carried it to an excess A LOT! Not that I blame her. I love the strawberries, too. And ours are sooooo sweet! Makes my mouth water just thinking of it.
We invited Tara over to help out on Saturday to clear the boxes. Since she is another one of the tomato buzzards that like to eat them out of our garden, it's the least she can do. I hope the Beast actually means what he said he was going to do this year. He CLAIMS he is only going to plant tomato plants and green pepper plants. I have to tell you that I don't believe it for a minute. He will see the starters and think...*Oh, I'll just get one...no, two of these.* Before you know it, he's got all kinds of plants crammed into the boxes and then he wonders why we lose so many tomatoes and such. He ends up with them all crammed together and they are TOO close. **Sigh** A farmer he was never meant to be.
Chewlee has one heck of a surprise coming for her. It's something I know she has wanted for a couple years now. It's also something from my friend, Carol. I have a really big surprise for her here already but I am saving it to give her at the shower so she will feel *special*. I would save what is coming except that Carol is just dying to know Chewlee's reaction to it when it gets here. Since Carol is an older woman, I don't want to keep her on pins and needles waiting.
Tomorrow should be a repeat of today's weather. But I have the Home Health nurse coming in the morning and it will be too warm for us to work out in the sun on the vegetable beds in the afternoon. Besides, the Beast has already said we will work on it on Saturday, which if we have a body or two more to help us out, should pretty much do it. Then it's just putting in the bags of potting soil before we start planting any veggies.
I gather it wasn't nearly as warm at Bratfink's area of the country but it was warm enough for her to enjoy the fresh air as she made her way out into the world. We heard that Wisconsin may be in for a FOOT of snow. Shock! Shock! I sure hope it's better for you, wherever you are. Love you all and be good.....***Hugs***
