The Princess' shower was a real success and lots of fun for everyone, I think. There was a lot of good conversation, a few surprises and lots and lots of gifts. I took pictures, mostly for Carol, my friend that had sent so many things for the baby. I tried to make sure I took pictures of everyone that came, including Ralph, who sat around, playing a game on his phone and then on his daughter's Ipod. He paid attention when the gifts were finally unwrapped then went back to his game once that was over.
I had thought he was going to play golf but Johnnycakes was smoking some ribs and other meat so he decided he would go with the gals and see what a baby shower was like. It had been years since his wife had one for their only child, Brandy, who is just beautiful. She was always a cute, outgoing little girl but she blossomed into this beauty I saw again and was reminded how kids grow up. **Sigh** Another sign of my getting old-er....LOL! Oh! Remember the gift that arrived on Thursday? Turns out it belonged to Brenda and Brandy. I was glad that was cleared up although they never did figure out why it was delivered to us instead of to the Princess. No matter. That was easily corrected.
Tara had done a beautiful job of providing noshes...there was candy for all, including the kids. I managed to get two big bubble gum balls and two candy sticks to bring home for when Chewlee comes to visit us, hopefully next weekend for a sleepover. There were little cupcakes with blue and white frosting plus some elephant cookies and even a delicious blue ice cream punch. Carol had sent a beautiful flower arrangement for the shower and I had had to wait at Tara's house for it to be delivered since the florist was late with it. But all's well that ends well. I got the flowers to the shower, Tara placed it where she had planned to and everything looked just great! I brought home two little adorable cupcakes for the Beast to enjoy (he ate them immediately) plus some chocolate candies and some jelly beans. He'll snack on those more once the cherry pie is gone.
Tara had also put together this amazing elephant that was made from things like washcloths, bibs and such. It was so cute. I meant to inspect it closer but never did get a chance to do so. She even had a couple games they played for prizes.
The Princess gave her a present that brought us all to tears when she read it out loud...a touching poem and a frame for her to use for the baby's picture once he comes. Since Chewlee was wearing the dress that Carol had sent, I was glad I had saved the necklace to give to her at the shower. She unwrapped it and was so excited, she had someone help her put it on and then ran around to show it to everyone and tell them it was from Carol, grandma's friend. The necklace looked like a match to the dress. It is just gorgeous.
I mentioned we had relatives coming to attend and they did. Raven came with her mother, Rita, as well as her daughters, Tracy and Aimee. Aimee brought her son, James, who is now 9 months old. He is my great-grandchild #2 and is the cutest thing. He reminds me of his uncle, my grandson Doc, in his looks. The others that came were Ralph, his wife, Brenda and their daughter, Brandy (as I mentioned earlier). We all had a get-together at the Princess' house after the shower to talk about the things relatives talk about.
I went home and put my foot up for a while before I headed over to the Princess' house. They were busy loading everything into the Princess' truck and cleaning up when I came home. My poor foot was throbbing to beat the band. But I grabbed the beads and things that Carol had sent me for Raven since she was here. It saved me a trip up to Nashville....LOL. Raven got excited going through it all and laughed and said she knew right where Carol had bought most of the things that were sent. She said she shops online at the same store. She said the store was in California so Carol may have been able to shop in it directly, the lucky dog (she remarked!)
Chewlee gave me two chocolate candies to put in *her* drawer with the other candy I had for her. She warned me not to eat one because she would remember how many were left. Like I would. I didn't stay to eat because of the throbbing of my foot and toe and it was beginning to swell. I knew it was my fault because I hadn't worn my special shoe but had worn my sandals since it was hot out. Shame on me, I know. Luckily, after sleeping well Saturday night and most of today, off-and-on, the swelling is gone and I can once again bend that toe. When I changed my bandage today, I checked it for any weeping or smell like infection but there wasn't any. **Phew** I was lucky. I won't do that again since it is so close to healing up completely.
The Beast made up some of the chicken filets we had bought a while back. Wow...they are very, very tasty and are actually filets that have been flattened but not those chopped up things. Very, very tasty. We have plans to buy more of them once these are used up.
I found out from Carol that she is having a serious problem on her bottom. Since she has been in a wheelchair for almost 20 years, I got worried sick over it. It's not her bum but a more intimate area where she has the problem. Today she told me she had checked with a mirror and the size of the raw spot is just awful! I made her promise to see her doctor, regardless of how embarrassing it can be. To her, the worst part is she can't lay down flat on the tables and I told her those can be raised at the head and she can make them lift it up for her to make it easier on her bad back. She promised me that she would see a doctor if it wasn't showing signs of improvement by tomorrow. She can't sit for any length of time as it is. Say a little prayer for her, please. She is a wonderful, sweet lady.
That's it for today (and yesterday). My physical imperfections made it absolutely necessary for me to get off and stay off my feet. Since I caused my own problem, I apologize for not blogging. We will be having some seriously stormy weather for the next few days with the possibility of tornadoes. It makes me very glad that Dennis and Diane had their safe room installed first thing and it's ready for use. Since there are a lot of areas that are going to be affected, I will say some prayers that we all stay safe and unharmed.
Love you all. Wishing you a wonderful week! ***Hugs***
