Just A Nice Day ....

Chewlee decided she wanted to wait to be able to see her new baby brother until he and the Princess come home on Wednesday.  She spent the morning picking the cherries she could reach off the one cherry tree that had loads of cherries on it.  Like I said, they are small but sweet.  She found a container and put all the cherries (she hadn't eaten) in it as a gift for the Princess.  She told me she would bring my container back...LOL!

Of course, part of the reason we just couldn't get ready to go to the hospital was we had a 7 hour power failure.  When I finally got hold of a real person at the power company, she said the lightning had hit a main feeder line and split it in two!  Plus there were trees and branches down that made repairs tough.  But they did get our electricity back a couple hours sooner than the estimated time, much to the Beast's relief.  We were running the fridge and freezer off the generator and a lamp or two plus our computers off the solar batteries.  The Beast's big concern was being able to watch the Miami Heat game...LOL!

We have some pretty yellow daffodils in the flower box out front and the Beast told Chewlee she could have some to take to her mother tomorrow.  We will cut them before she goes home.  Oh...I have to tell you...my orchid bloomed!  It was a Mother's Day gift from the Princess and Chewlee two years ago.  It did nothing last year but this year there are two orchids open and three more buds.  Of course, I spent about an hour cleaning it up a few months back and I have kept the *soil* moist.  They are so pretty.  The Beast was shocked.  He wanted to throw it out but I wouldn't let him.  I had a *way* with orchids in Florida but I had more places I could keep them with indirect sunlight.  This house doesn't have it.  Heck, we have very few windows even.  So I am proud of my orchid plant.  It isn't easy to keep it so that it blooms for you.

The Princess and Johnnycakes had a special *family* dinner tonight, courtesy of the hospital.  I know she said something about a steak dinner (some hospitals also serve wine to the new family).  I don't know if this hospital goes that far but I thought that was a sweet thing to do.

The poor baby was circumcised today and wasn't nursing.  He nursed well yesterday so they know he knows how to do it.  He got the colostrum he needed and the nurses told the Princess that the behavior was normal.  I'm sure he nursed this evening.  If he gets hungry, he's right there in her room so that wouldn't be a problem.

Chewlee built herself a kind of fortress in my computer room tonight.  The *walls* are pillows standing up.  She has one blanket to lay on and another two (different weights) to put over her if/when she gets cold.  Usually it's her arms that get cold and she pulls one over her arms and chest.  She says her legs stay warm.  I've seen her almost wake up and cover up completely when she gets cold so I don't worry about her that way.  She has four stuffed animals along the short *wall* she built for them to lay on.  It makes it easier for her to leave her fort to go to the bathroom...LOL!  It's cute.  She is sound asleep and looks like a little angel.

She told me tonight that her mother never does anything fun with her.  When I brought up the canoeing trips they take, she said that wasn't on the lake but on the river and she didn't really like the river.  She only gets like this after spending a day or two with her paternal grandfather.  He rents a room at a local hotel and lets her swim all day, takes her shopping for goodies and out to eat.  She said her mother only tells her to clean up her room.  I told her that if she kept her room clean all the time, her mother might actually have time to do things with her.  She just gave me a look that said I was clueless.  When I said her mother's job was to train her for when she got older and might actually have a place of her own, she said there was no training...just a demand that she *get in her room and clean it up*.    Kids!

Chewlee wants to go to the zoo with me.  The Beast wants to make the trip to Birmingham and see what the zoo there is like.  I still can't spend a day on my feet, which really annoys me.  I should be able to walk around a zoo but I fear I might actually need to rent a wheelchair if I want to see the whole thing.  We shall see.  I do better if I take my cane with me.  That helps a lot for some reason.  I just hate to depend on it.  Oh well!  C'est la vie!

The Princess should be released from the hospital around noon tomorrow.  I think they will be picking Chewlee up on their way home.  If not, I will drive her so that I can have the chance to hold the baby again for a bit.

We have a couple more days of rain and thunderstorms ahead of us.  That always means we lose both our computers AND television.  Sigh!  That's the downside of both being provided via satellite.  But it's warm, thankfully.  Chewlee went out to pick some strawberries and couldn't find any!  Our damn raccoons wiped them out.  They left the green blackberries, of course, since they only eat ripe fruit.  I told the Beast that I was sorry we couldn't leave Baron out at night.  He hates raccoons and has chased them out of our yard several times.  But they are smart and know when to hit the plants and not have to worry about him.

Speaking of Baron....he's going in to a new vet tomorrow.  The Beast has little faith in our old one for several reasons.  He likes the new vet and we think Baron might be ill.  He's been off his food and either is laying around all the time or wants to be in the Beast's lap.   His behavior just isn't normal and he doesn't even get excited any more when the Beast takes him out for his run (using the motor scooter).  We are very worried about him.  I will let you know if the new vet finds anything.  I told the Beast to ask about the skin problem while he's there, too.  The ointment and spray we got from the old vet doesn't seem to be helping at all.

I think Baron was the only really big dog she ever took care of and that she really isn't all the familiar with dobermans.  We'll see how the new one reacts when she gets to actually meet Baron.  Baron is NOT the average doberman.  He seems almost twice the size of many.

Love you all.  Hope your week is going well and you have a great *Hump Day*.  ****Hugs****

  1. Getting a wheelchair is only good if someone will push you on it. Go to the zoo's website and see if they have motorized wheelchairs. Then suck it up and use one.
